From a time that was a curious sweet spot between practical and digital. Occasionally, modern productions will go back to practical approaches, like the background shots in the Blade Runner sequel, but in general: they will go cheap/quick whenever they can. It's the age of half-cooked over-produced non-stop CGI bombardment outsourced to Indian or Chinese VFX studios that never had the chance to fully shine due to inhumane deadlines, poor planing and directors on constant ego trips.

Proof that a movie's BUDGET does not determine its visual effects. It's the director and team making them that produces EXCELLENCE like this. Phil Tippett baby!!!

100%, plus storytelling, directing, cast & everything else was perfect for the movie, in modern times if they filmed something like this VFX would be 10 times worse, cast would be as colorful as a rainbow

Yes and no. In the drop Klendazu shots, some of the colors of the interior sets look fake, and the same happens with some of the shots of the ships landing on Klendazu. Also, there is a shot of Rico's girlfriend on an hyper fast train that looks fake as hell. It's better than Marvel, DC, and the Kong and Godzilla stuff. But much worse than Avatar 1 & 2 (I'm talking about the cinema prints, not the bs released in 4K UHD Blu-ray / Streaming / Kaleidoscope) and Dune 1 & 2.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of Denise Richards' acting skills, that screentest with Casper van Dien must be some of her best acting work. In the actual movie, they make her looks more awkward when she finally says "I love you," because only a fool doesn't know he's just a fling for her. And Richards and Van Dien have such great chemistry together in this scene.
@What.993 жыл бұрын
I’m not a big fan of Denise Richards, but yeah, she was really good in those screen tests. I wish her performance in the movie had been as good as those screen tests.

ST remains for me the best movie Denise Richards has acted in. She looks good, acts good, moves good and is a great foil for Rico's other love interest.

It's crazy to hear how Verhoven and the cast aren't really talking about this movies as if it's clearly satire. I wonder why he's much more open about this in interviews. But this one he seems to be painting the film in a different light.

These comments and description are fucking awesome and educative. All you see in the behind the scenes section of movies nowadays are, just actors going to hit the gym instead of how their vfx works. Giving their opinions on the characters instead of focusing on vfx cast working.

I’m reading the book now (audiobook is on KZbin) and I’m amazed at how different it is. I loved this film when I was younger, I cherished the Letterboxed VHS copy I got from Suncoast. Although it’s incredibly corny, I still enjoy it. I must say that audition scene had better acting than in the movie, I wonder why they went in such a different way for the film. I can see why they were hired. MEDIC!!!!!

End of Chapter 13. Rico mentions he speaks Tagalog at home. This is the language of the Philippines. Maybe they had connections with South America but after Buenos Aires is destroying, Rico offers condolences to the ships only “porteño”. Port city resident. Rico is surprised to learn his mother was in Buenos Aires. Perhaps his Filipino family emigrated to South America but he is FILIPINO

That trailer is good, but it horribly misrepresents what the movie is all about. It really doesn't prepare you for how thought provoking and satirical it really is, it's all been said before but man that trailer misses the mark.
@Hawthorne-Studios Жыл бұрын
Nah, the trailer is cool because as much as it is satire, it's also a military adventure story at heart also.

That solo combat scene at the start isn't even in the movie, was that part of some unreleased footage of the Mormon colonists getting over-run?

It was a screen test for the special effects, basically a test to get the film financed and made.

Even though I hate reboots/remakes, I actually wouldn't be entirely opposed to the idea of them making one for this movie. I know there were actual sequels that were made, but they were awful. Maybe Netflix buying the rights and making a series based on this franchise would probably work best and be successful assuming they got some decent actors and VFX in it.
