I've always loved how Carmen gets her shoulder ran completely through by a bug, and not with a small hole, either, it was huge. Yet, a few minutes later when she's rescued, she slings both arms over the shoulders of her friends just like she didn't have an inches wide hole right through her scapula. Talk about pain control, eh?

The reason this happened was because Denise Richards had zero basis for her shoulder injury, and was given no direction indicating it. The Victory scene was the very first day of shooting. It's why it makes no sense in the context of every scene prior, because the actors weren't given any context to define it. This is straight from Denise herself.

I think they needed a scene where Carmen falls over after the reunion with Johnny and Carl due to her giant gaping wound from the brain bug that almost separated her arm and shoulder from her body. Really, that should have killed her. Instead, she's like 'we'll always be friends!"
@redbaron932
@redbaron932 9 ай бұрын
I get what your saying but I think that's part of the satire running through out the film, when Carmen's ship crash's into another ship in the first bug invasion a massive flame goes across her face which looks like it is going to be fatal and that she is dead, but when we see her again after the 1st failed invasion she just has a cut on her face, also when that massive bug spike goes through Johnny's quad it looks like there is not much left of his leg, yet in the next scene we see him getting his now somewhat smaller wound sowed up and it is not smaller just because it is being sowed up. its poking fun at films and tv serials where at the end of a episode they would show the main character in mortal danger looking like he really is about to die or has died but when you watch the next episode they show the same scene from a completely different angle completely contradicting what they showed us the day before which could be really annoying even when watching it as a kid in other words do not take star ship troopers seriously it is best enjoyed as fun

I replaced a stuntwoman on this show I originally turned down 3 times😆I think the craft service (food) was the best I ever had. I always wondered why that specific scene was so important it had to be perfect. I love how, despite "Starship Troopers" being a satire, Johnny Rico is a legitimately likeable and sympathetic character: he struggles with grades; he's kinda discriminated for his parents not being Federation citizens; despite being wealthy and rich, he joins the Mobile Infantry to earn the approval of the parents of his romantic interest and to prove his worth... If a remake/reboot of Starship Troopers were launched today, I'm pretty sure Johnny Rico would either be turned into a moronic, stereotypical blonde jock, or replaced by a diverse female character for ESG/DEI points, with the producers completely ignoring the original Starship Troopers was already very diverse.

One of my all time favorite movies. I think all the scenes here would of made the movie better except for the Zanders scenes and the final kiss with Johnny and Carmen. I agree the kiss would of made it cliché. I liked in the theatrical they stay true to their word with the 3 of them that they will always be friends and it shows how much Johnny has grown from the beginning of the movie to the end. Zander was a dick but those scenes made him more creepy and it be weird to show Carmen have a interest in him as a rebound thinking Johnny is dead. I liked in the theatrical for Zander. yeah Zander dies but he atleast tried get some redemption by helping Carmen get off the ship and protecting Carmen till the end and giving her a last final chance to survive with the knife.

This is one of those movies titled after a book, that the screen play writers used about half a chapter from the book to "flavor" the movie. Obviously, they didn't actually read it. As a sci-fi movie it is good! It is not, however, Starship Troopers as the nook was written. They kept names and some places but failed in even a close proximity to the book. Again, as a sci-fi movie it was good.

To also make you hate Zander more, there's a panel in the official comic book adaption of the movie that also came out in 1997, where while on the bridge of the Roger Young, Zander tells Carmen that the military encourages marriage within their flight teams.

This film is like three movies in one. There's the front story, the aliens, the battles, the love triangle: blockbuster fun. There's the dark story behind: a totalitarian society, where the *only* way to have a place in society and basic human rights like having children is by bearing arms. All the teachers are mutilated veterans. A dystopian nightmare. (The intersection of anti-alien propaganda ads, is reminiscent of American war propaganda in WWII. That included propaganda Disney shorts, The Three Stooges shorts, etc.) The "growing" the narrator talks about is actually the dehumanizing of the characters. As the movie advances, they become killing machines. The end of the romance at the end means they don't love anything anymore, they don't care. The psychic guy was nice and compassionate, he became a torturer. The scene in which he proclaims the brain bug is afraid poses a question: are the aliens attacking, or defending themselves? Finally, the breaking of the fourth wall hints at all that we watched was a piece of militaristic propaganda, aimed at making us insensitive to death and cruelty, willing to applaud never-ending massacres of aliens who are never given a chance to communicate and explain themselves. Very interesting movie.

I actually like her and have since I first saw the movie at age 13. To me, Dizzy was always the crazy stalker who was obsessed with the IDEA of Johnny Rico, but was never actually intetested in Rico the person. She proves this when her parting words are not "I love you," but rather, "at least I got to have you." Carmen was smart, strong-willed, and knew what she wanted in her life. She also cared about Rico as a person enough to try and discourage him from enlisting, which she KNEW was just an attempt to impress her and her father. It always makes me smile hearing Dizzy say "at least I got to have you," knowing that Carmen had him first. #Ibanezisbestgirl

@@kenbrown2808 No. She was the creepy, obsessive stalker who did everything Rico did just to impress and stalk him. Carmen actually cared about Johnny and tried to dissuaded him from enlisting because she knew he was doing it to impress her and her father. She understood WHY he wanted to be a citizen, and she did not think it was a good motivation. I think THAT was why she dumped him. She wanted him to either go home or find a REAL reason to serve. It wasn't just her career ambitions. Plus, she was smart, strong, skilled, confident, and knew what she wanted. Dizzy was always second place. Hell, Corporal Birdie would heavy been better than that crazy redhead.

@@kenbrown2808 So she was flirting. It's pretty harmless. And she didn't ditch Rico for Zander. She dumped Rico because she wanted to be free to focus on her career. Dizzy was NEVER there for Rico. She was there for the IDEA of Rico, but never him as a person. Her last words were literally a reflection of the pettiness. And yes, Carmen was only ever in it for Carmen, as ANYONE in a relationship should be. Nobody is ever in a relationship for the other person's own good. That's why Carmen was a better match. She was more invested in their relationship.

More romance in this movie would have definitely been too much and missing the whole message and atmosphere of this brilliant masterpiece. Good choices in the end to remove them. I only wish the two sequels they did after would have been at least half as good as the first one. These were just plain sad to watch as an absolute fan of the first one.
