I have all four seasons on DVD and have been watching them during the lockdown/unemployment. It's kinda funny, kinda sad to see the car as the series goes on..... It starts out with the racing mirrors and nice shiny mags.... by season 4, the mirrors have probably been knocked off so many times, they're just the standard chrome ones. The wheels are dull and grey and are missing their center caps. In one episode, I guess they damaged a wheel so the car has a steel wheel painted grey.
@allanbard60482 жыл бұрын
The wheels can be polished to a high shine...but the Keystone/American Racing five slot mags were brushed aluminum. Sport mirrors were on the 1974 model, and the blocky square mirrors/stock on the '75/'76 model. I have even different square mirrors on mine, and bucket seats 90% screen accurate. All that being said, I love it for all the different things it incorporates. As a friend once said: "This isn't Starsky's Torino, it's YOUR Torino."

In the episode that has Starsky describing his motor he mentions “chrome rocker covers”. . . . . .also called rocker - arm covers to some. As much as one can love a car, I love Starsky’s Gran Torino! This was a very well done video. Having only seen clips of the show through the years I never knew the character Starsky was that fond of the car during the series. He was a car guy when in fact the actor himself hated the car. The Torino had a rather good look for a big, slow, poor handling and poorly made car. They certainly didn't last long on the road so seeing them was rare even in the early 80s when they weren't all that old yet. Nevertheless the custom painted Torino certainly goes down in history as one of the famous TV cars and the show as a likeable low budget cop show.

"...with that tuned suspension/trick motor and the 45's in the rear end..." could be any number of customizations. A "tuned suspension" could be sway bars or gas shocks; "trick motor" is kinda what I have, a 302 step 1 which is street legal and works well w/the performance parts. A step 3 isn't street legal, and a 302 is...well, a 302. "45's in the rear end" could be gas shocks as a desirable Ford rear end is 9 inches. Also could be tire size bigger/wider than the front ones. Just having some fun with the dialog.
