One possibility would be to memorize the movements then do 2 individual recordings, not yet sure how hard this will be but I'm sure it will take a lot of practice. My second idea was simply to do one recording, put it on 2 different tracks and use plugins in the daw to make each one different enough to get the effect (who knows where this will lead, I doubt I'll get the same effect but I might get something interesting!). You've definitely inspired a whole new project, great work Starsky! Love your channel man.

The DFAM looks sooooooo much better with those knobs! How solid are they, though? I would expect them to maybe be a little wobbly... But then, I would expect the Edge knobs to be about the same as the RD-9. It's funny that the chassis is mostly metal and could be used for self defense, but then the knobs are slightly flimsy-feeling. Regardless, Sweetwater isn't getting them till mid-August. I should've bought one from Thomann while they were in stock. I'm a little concerned that InMusic is gonna file an injunction before I get one LOL. I mean, now that Moog is owned by a company with lawyers and money. That’s one thing making an improved 808/909 40 years later … but making functionally-identical copies of two of Moog’s best selling products that are only 5 years old ...

If you haven't already, one thing you might want to try is running it at max tempo. I'm not sure if the Edge can do this but the DFAM's sequencer maxes out at 700 cycles per second, which at those speeds causes the individual steps to merge into a single audible tone. Use an external sequencer to control the filter, pitch and start-stop and you've basically got an analogue version of a wavetable synth.

@daanleever6411 Moog didn't develop the instrument. They had an awesome idea, thats right. So kudos to Moog for being innovative, but the Edge is a complete redesign with own board, etc. So Behringer also put a ton of money into the development. To demand that nobody should produce an instrument like the DFAM is comparable to say that nobody should produce any subtractive synth, or Rhodes piano, etc. anymore. Plus, I don't believe that they both are in the same market. Moog is handmade, most likely higher quality and an original brand. People are buying the Edge because they can't afford the DFAM. And Moog fans who can afford it will still go for the original.

If I were looking for something that can do rumbling style sounds, then Edge it is. But the DFAM clearly has a tighter low end and a filter with more overtones. What I'm looking for in this type of machine is something that doesn't just do boomy kick and bright hihat patterns. What I want is the modular glitch sound. I already have sampled kicks and hihats so what I need is tom and percussion patterns. For that, the DFAM is the winner.

thx 4 the video! i think it sounds similar enough to consider it for the midi connectivity. that missing midi was why i sold my dfam. so i would be interested in the midi :D, can you sequence it from another device lets say the octatrack or something and maybe run the internal sequencer aswell and transpose the 8 step sequence every 16th step, and do this 4 times to get a 64 step -ish feel to it?? or hook it on a keystep and play it as a dual vco mono synth?
@StarskyCarr Жыл бұрын
No as far as I know the knobs are pure analog not connected to any control. So no transposing… as for creating longer sequences with a few I wonder where it could be possible somehow by triggering them sequentially?
@lesterfalcon1350 Жыл бұрын
I'm taking it that the internal sequencer and the midi are going to be two separate things. Apart from clock sync you are choosing one or the other. I can using the 8 steps as an idea pads, they recreating the knobs positions in a the DAW sequencer, and then fleshing them out into something more evolved. Being able to recall the steps in a sequencer is a main selling point for me. As well as being able to do more complex rhythms or even simpler ones with 16th timings over a bar. This synth can have such a dominating sound, sometimes less is more, instead of playing every 8th note. I really hope the tuning stability is good on this, and once the master tuning is set, it can be left and the DAW can sequence melodic percussion ideas.

Great video! I think at this price point - you’re stupid to NOT buy these clones. It really opens up the modular synth market, but also probably ensures a faithful customer base to “collect ‘em all” 😂 I never liked the sound of their mixers or effects units at all, and have bad mouthed the company many times… But they can have my $250 subscription to every one until I die 😂

It’s a real shame it’s not Eurorack compatible, that’s just stupid.

I love the fact that BFAM, sorry EDGE, can do everything and more than the DFAM :D

Really appreciate your comparisons with the two. I'm sold on the Edge. I mean for the price it can't be beat. Thanks a bunch guy 😊

I’m getting the Edge.

I think people are going to really get into the EDGE sound due to being easy to use and also much much cheaper than a DFAM, I may in future pick up a couple, would be fun for that analog percussive sound. Thx for the upload.

This is going to be a big seller. It’s really cool, especially if you interface it with eurorack modules. Every time I see these comparison videos, I think about when the people at Behringer did the exact same thing when they were developing this. And they kept tweaking it until they sounded almost identical.

Hopefully this never comes out like the UBXA and the rest of their product line that is 5 years plus overdue?

@@79Glitch Wait, you're telling me _this one video_ suddenly turned you from defending Behringer to hoping for their downfall and the disappointment of all their global customers? 🤣 Come off it, mate.

I have a DFAM but to me the CEM filter sounds a bit - can I say it? - edgier.. 239€ at Thomann right now.. waiting to see if they will drop below 199€. Maybe sell the DFMA and get 2 Edges..
