@@Jason.Aeschliman as per your studio monitor recommendations I heard the presonus eris e3.5 only goes from 80hz - 20Khz I think. Will the low end of mixes be heard entirely wrong because it's not 20hz - 20khz?

Right on, that’s great!! Yeah…the low end most likely won’t translate well onto other systems because it’s not full frequency, it may be a good idea to also snag some headphones or something that are full frequency, just so you’re able to get an accurate idea of how the low end feels.

The HS monitors are a great buy…that’ll be great for you! They’re super ‘honest’ monitors in my opinion, like if you can get your song to sound good on them they’ll translate really well to other speakers!

Brother, thanks a ton for your detailed inputs on the workflow. I was looking in for a guide to setup a home dubbing studio for a solo filmaker and your inputs on this setup was a great place to start with. I have currently chosen the following things, MIC - Audio Technica AT2020 , AUDIO INTERFACE - Scarlett Solo, Headphones - Audio Technica M50X , STUDIO MONITORS - PreSonus Eris E3.5. I have few clarifications on few. The isolation stands for studio monitors. Do they really make a difference. Melon Studio Pop filter for my Mic. Is it a good choice because my room has lot of reverb and not sound proof. Plz suggest a good boom arm Plz suggest the XLR and other cables that i might need. I have a ASUS ROG Strix G18. It would be of a great help if you could suggest some. Thank you brother.

Love the setup bro - honestly, I'd recommend investing treatment before doing isolation stands...iso stands do make a difference, but not very much - if you're able to treat first and second reflections and some bass traps (if you're having low end issues) you should be all set! For boom arms, I have a Neewer one, and it's worked well! I've always had good luck with ProCo XLR cables from Sweetwater Sound. Do you have the cables from your interface to your monitors?

Going budget friendly on certain items can bite you in the end if your really going for it. Basically anything before the interface and what your using to hear it with. You can run out and buy a SM 58 for 100 and maybe be ok for a few weeks. You'll soon discover unless you have a interface with a good pre-amp that you are way low in gain to match your songs or that you had to crank it so high it sounds like garbage. It's better to push yourself a bit harder to get the SM7B package with the cloudlifter and good quality cords like they have in combos at sweetwater. Reselling music equipment is a hard sell, so you need to get it right the first time. Don't bottleneck your vision with "Budget friendly". But don't go over board with specs you don't need.

Great video! For studio monitors, you can't beat the value of the Kali Audio LP6 v2. They punch WAY above their price range and you can get a pair brand new for $400. I recommened these over all the budget options mentioned in the video (especially the KRKs lol)

Right on! Yeah Rockville doesn’t have the best reputation from what I’ve heard and seen. I’d recommend finding something from a more reputable company and buying through a place like Sweetwater Sound that has a really solid customer service!

Awesome! Glad it was helpful! For sure man, both the 2i2 and Volt 2 would work great for recording stereo guitar! Also, both of those interfaces have 'combo jacks' so you can run either XLR or 1/4in Instrument cables from your guitar rig to the interface 🤙🏻

Right on! I think you can totally mix on either open or closed back bro, it’s more about what you’re most comfortable and if you’re most familiar with closed back than your mixes will probably sound better than something you’re uncomfortable with/is new. Now with that said, I do agree with you!! I do think open back headphones offer a unique stereo image and in general are better for mixing! So yeah go for it :) I recommend the AudioTechnica R70X for open back, very cost effective and they sound killer!

Excellent video. I have a question: I’m looking to record my band in a church setting. Is there any benefit to using a computer with a Daw and interface to record over using a field recorder? Just trying to obtain the best sound quality.

Hey Stuart, Thanks for watching! The benefit to using a computer with DAW/Interface would be no transfer or downtime between recording and editing. And if you were working with a band and wanted to get multiple takes of specific sections and "produce" with a live band, the DAW/Interface setup would be a must have. BUT if you're just looking to capture a perfomance and edit it later in your DAW you 100% should just pick up a field recorder or record multitrack off of the soundboard at your church (depending on the consoles features). If you got a deacent interface or decent interface there's not going to be a difference in "quality" from an audio standpoint, just a different workflow. Does this answer your question?

Great video! I am considering starting a podcast and need gear to begin. Is the tech/gear I need different for a podcast production vs music production? Thanks for your input.

Right on, that’s awesome! There’s definitely some overlap between music production and podcast production as far as gear goes. You’re definitely going to need a microphone or two, depending on if you have any co-hosts, and you’ll need an audio interface to convert the audio from the mic to a digital signal that the computer understands. I would recommend getting a good set of headphones, so you can monitor audio during the podcast and then a basic DAW (digital audio workstation/recording & editing software) to record and edit your podcast in. That should get you started on the audio side! You may need more mics and an interface that can handle more inputs if you plan on having several people on the podcast at the same time.

I have been listening to a wide variety of podcasts and the majority have poor sound quality. Is it their gear quality or environment? Would you recommend any sound treatment on my office walls as a beginning podcaster?

@@mysimplyscripture For sure! As far as treatment goes, if you're in a large empty "active space" it could be a good idea to pick up some treatment. But honestly, if you're just in your own home it wouldn't be necessary...at least at first. I'd recommend investing in mics/headphones/lightings and cameras or whatever you need first. Treatment is expensive and depending on the space won't have a significant impact on the podcast quality...so yeah I'd recommend waiting to invest in treatment until you have everything else that you need!

Also the closer the mic is to you the less room tone you'll pick up, so make sure the mic is as close as possible!

I hope to grow a channel focused on music production. Writing, editing, recording, mixing and mastering music! Because of that goal this video was made with the music producer in mind! If you’re capturing interviews for video or podcasts or anything like that you’d definitely want to consider a hardware recorder. But for the purposes of modern music production and songwriting this is why I went this route. Appreciate the comment, I hope this helps!
