I think once you get back into paint by numbers, you will be in love with this hobby again! It is so easy to become addicted to it, because the choices are vast, and there are so many tools on the market now to help make the process so much easier and less frustrating. Plus, if I’m not mistaken, they used to be oil paints in the original kits, and now they are acrylics. That makes clean up a breeze, and I am all about that life! 😂 Another reason I believe it is so popular is because with social media, there is such a wealth of information & support. Loved this video. I intently watched the whole thing, mainly studying your technique and seeing what I do wrong. Have a hard time with the small spaces. I put too much paint on my brush. I also need to hold my brush closer to the brush part. I liked you wipe demonstration also. I bet all these things will help. I bought several Schipper paint sets since you got so excited about their paints when your Caribbean Island came in. Still experimenting with my own "technique". Thank you so much. I have bought many of the things you recommend and love them all, especially the little metal stirrer sticks. You are wonderful! I also like your little funny comments! Added this to my wishlist I was looking fir some smaller paintings!! girlfriend I got me a living room light that goes over my art table Yes art tables in living room We are older and things are where we want them in our home verses where they should be haha 😂 The light was recommended by one of your ladies in FB from Amazon OMGOSH I don’t miss as many of the lines as I used to haha 😂!! I’m almost finished with the Ledge bay painting thinking 🤔 of whom ti start next Paint Plot, Master Piece, another Ledge Bay, Opal Berry, Micheal’s and change the paints haha 😂 or Paint By Numbers or a Diamond Painting that’s coming ? I’ve tested a lot of kits now, and I have only run into a handful of semi-opaque paints...no transparent ones. I hope you have the same luck. I LOVE that painting with the skyline so much, and I’ve thought about buying it, but I have no “connection” to it...and I have no idea where I would put it. Seeing you paint was helpful to me….I don’t understand the gesso magic tool. I’m looking online to see how it works-does this tool actually put the gesso on the canvas? or do you put gesso on the canvas and this tool smooths it out, taking off excess? Hi Melanie, Just wondering if I use paint from a kit other than Schipper, should I be adding the Liquitex product that makes the paint thinner and flow better? I often order from Craft- Ease. I often worry that by adding something to the. paint will make it too thin. I stir all my paint as you suggest. For whatever reason, Gesso just doesn't seem to work any better for me so I just decided not to Gesso. I'm also wondering if by using paint that is a bit thinner, if that would help me to get more neatly into those tighter areas?

I finally understand what it means that the painting is “on a board”! All this time, I thought you painted on wood🤣😜🤣😜 What I THINK it means is that the canvas is dry mounted and wrapped on foam core. Is that correct? Also, it was so interesting to watch your process! (And love the music....do you have that going in your studio 24/7?😊

No, I don’t. I actually listen to a random mix of classic & soft rock from the 70’s; classic country (and I hate country music from the 2000’s to now); 90’s & 2000’s pop; hip hop from the 90’s & 2000’s (until I realized I dance too much and that isn’t conducive to painting well 🤣) and current mellow music. Then I mute that music when I edit and play the soft music you hear over the top of the videos. The music I listen to when I paint is copyrighted, so I can’t play it. And when I’m painting in the den, I also binge watch tv shows like, “Supernatural” or true crime documentaries, and that’s another thing I don’t want in the background of my videos. It’s much easier to watch with soft music. 😬 So a board painting means it is a paper or canvas-textured surface on a matboard. Dimensions is a thin matboard, and Schipper is mounted on a thick matboard, but neither of them are on foamboards. Because the core of these kinds of paintings are basically cardboard, that’s why it is so questionable about whether gesso is a good idea or not. If that liquid seems into the surface of the “paper” and into the cardboard core, it can cause warping. Dimensions brands and the cheaper ones have a thin paper surface and it seeps through and into the matboard easily. The Schipper paintings have a thicker canvas-textured, slicker “paper” surface and a thicker matboard, so it doesn’t seem to do that like the Dimensions. I probably need to do a “canvas” vs “board” video for this reason. It can all be confusing...especially to a beginner.

Overworking the gesso or skipping areas make it smoother in some spots. I tilt my canvas or board to be sure I got it everywhere.

Hey I have ?. I am just starting my very first paint by number picture. I have watched all of your videos but I’m still nervous. Do u recommend the self canvas wrap method before painting and then add the gesso? I have ordered all of the products that u recommended and they are coming in today . Just don’t want to mess up!

1. You will not mess up! Put that anxiety aside and ENJOY THE PROCESS of painting. Anything you “mess up” on is easily fixed. You got this! 2. It doesn’t matter if you gesso before or after you stretch the canvas. That is totally a personal preference. Some people don’t like to frame first, because the weight of their hand can push down in the center of the canvas and loosen it. They will use my Tape Down mounting method while they paint and then stretch when they’re done. I hope this information helps you...and remember to RELAX...IT’S JUST PAINT! 😊

It took me forever to order a Schipper, because I asked myself the same question. Once I finally tried one, I’ve paid that shipping every time. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I do order multiples at a time to try to save on shipping by buying them at Herrschners and getting them when they have a rare “Free Shipping” deal, but I love the Schipper paints.

I just need to work on my larger areas when painting them!! I don’t know why the acrylic paints to me go in so much better in small areas verses large areas and yes I use the larger flat brush or smaller flat brush on those larger areas.. Thx for the video I now know I’m doing that right! I do remember some of my days earlier in life painting with the oil paints I’m having a hard time with paint pods drying while painting?? How much flow aid can we use diluted wi water? I was afraid to use to much so I started using water to thin last time and it caused the colors to look watered down and I had to do a second coat on a Opaque color that became transparent with word streaks of thinning in it So I’m not a fan of water yet I’m afraid to use to much of the flow aid Since I was having to thin the paints every time I opened them again?? Is this drying normal? I’ve gotten to where I hold the single pod in my hand and lightly close the lid while painting!! Yep it’s that bad and still they dried out 😳🙄😱🤷🏼‍♀️

Stan 3 months ago You should talk a bit slower, just a bit. I am trying to produce a finer picture than I do now. Could you list the names of the companies so I can purchase better BRUSES, better than mine. I thought what the Paint by Number (PNB), where great until I started to work with them, boy old boy was I disappointed in the past 3 or 4 months I was PNB. The brushes I receive are dreadful and cheap the maintance to prepare them, well I am sorry but it is the truth. I can not purchase them, the very expensive BRUSHES can set me back too much, but I talked with my wife, she had said ok, if I don't go over a certain price every time I go out to and come back home with big BUCKS. Please tell me the name you use most of the time. They seem to work well. stan..

Hi Stan! I know I talk fast…I try to speak slower for the videos, but it may help if you turn on the captions. I’ll try to slow it down some though. ☺️ Other people say I speak too slow & they speed up my videos 🤷🏻‍♀️😂. As far as brushes go, last summer I actually started designing my own sets finally, because I got so frustrated with what was available on the market for paint by numbers. The ones I created are detail sets for getting into very small areas. I also designed a brush cleaning system to maintain the brushes, because I think once you have spent the money, you want to keep them in perfect condition. I’ve been using the same set of my own brushes since August of last year. So here are some videos that will show you the brushes, because I can’t put links to my shop here.
