Thank you so much for making canning 101 with Presto. Long story short, I bought my pressure canner years ago , so excited and immediately I was told horror stories that flipped me out. My husband refused to let me return it and said we'll store it til you feel comfortable. We have always wanted to really store our own food, so I decided to face that fear. All my insecurities, you calmed and solved with these video's, all questions answered. We truly appreciate all that you do. Once our garden comes in this year, I plan to get my hula on . Thank you ❤

Thank you for this video. I am totally unfamiliar with pressure cookers. Your video tells me more than the book or Presto's videos. Its a 15 pound weight, thats why it won't jiggle!

Very good explanation Leisa. Really I wish I'd had you around 30 years ago when I started pressure canning to give good explanations like that. I was new at it had a new pressure canner read the directions 65 times my mother was petrified of pressure canners so really didn't have a good backup system. Truly glad all the newbies have you you give great instructions and explanations.

Wow this was very informative. I have learned so much about the canner and it's great to see it visually. Mine was gifted from a friend and does not have the gauge but jiggler. I feel much more confident since watching . I only ever knew how to WB and was limited to what i could can. I know this has been posted for a year but still today 2022 It's fantastic. Now to binge watch the rest of your posts. Thank you so much you are amazing and a great instructor.

I just got a Presto 23 quart pressure canner. I watched about 5-6 videos on how to use it, and just wanted to pull my hair out, I was so confused. Then I watched your video & wow. Thank you for making sense & explaining simply how to start using it. I laughed when you explained why & how I won't blow myself up. I really was scared I would. I am rewatching it now as I am keeping as eye on the gage as I pressure can Hamburger Soup. You seem to know my questions & answered them in this video. Thank you for making this. You rock!

i back off on the heat when it hits 5lbs of pressure and then let it go up to 11psi other wise it goes up past 13psi...but i have yet been able to keep it at 11 psi it always goes to 12psi and that is where it stays so I figure as long as it is not going under 11 I am okay...have elec stove and got one of those canner burners you had it has helped.

Doing practice runs like this is also a great time to practice canning water with Harvest Guard and Tattler canning lids. THANK YOU!!! I bought a new Presto pressure canner for glass top and induction stoves a week ago. I watched other videos that were good and I did a water trial run - but actually used my jars and lids. 2 days later (last night), I had the courage to can 15 lbs of organic chicken breast. I struggled with the pressurefollowed the head space and bubble/air space instructions. I struggled with getting the pressure to rise but finally got that to work. I panicked when I could smell the cooked chicken bc if the cans are sealed, you shouldn't be able to snell the food- and iron smelled metallic as well. When I pulled out my cans, the lids had black soot all over the rim and the water was greasy and scummy. I searched online for answers and was worried I ruined all that meat. This morning I found the jars had kept a good seal and I cleaned to lids and jars with vinegar. Your video popped up in my feed and now I understand about siphoning and why it may have happened. I also now know that my canner only cane with a regulater not a jiggler. I kept thinking they were the same thing and I was searching online why mine wasn't jiggling🤦‍♀️. I like the jiggler idea and will be buying one. After watching several "canning 101" videos, YOUR video is THE BEST!!!👏👏👏❤️

Awesome Series! Thank you so much for this. I have wanted to see how it works rather than just be told (or only read about it, about a thousand times). Seeing it in application and watching the differences between the gauge and the jiggle I get it now. I wasn’t raised around anyone who canned or preserved so When we started this journey I watched 100’s (and that’s putting it lightly) of videos trying to learn all different ways to fit our family’s situation for preservation and everyone does it differently. Videos like this showing basics on canning I love it. Thank you for all you do and sharing your knowledge. God Bless.

Finally a video that answered my question. How do you regulate temp on a propane stove? Most other videos talked about outdoor propane stoves. Mine is indoors.. One thing you can add is what your BTU output is.. FYI on your largest burner its 12000, 6000 on the 2 medium burners and 3500 one the smallest.. Very helpful, thank you very much.

Recently bought a pressure canner and have been doing my due diligence learning about what I’m doing before I fire it up…..from what I’ve learned so far there is some info out there that is best avoided unless you like playing roulette with food safety. You have to weed out the horses@*t from the hay as it were and it takes alot of time. Then I ran across this video that clearly and easily shows in minutes what it took hours to gather in bits and pieces. Now I see why Adding the rattle weight makes sense …..Great job!

I cant thank you enough for this series. I am new to canning and have only done waterbath up to this point. Ive been researching pressure canners and the 16qt presto is such a good deal right now. But i was beyond intimidated by the how to regulate that pressure. I was considering buying an electric pressure canner because i felt like it had more options as far as "regulation". But those things are way more expensive and the jar capacity is almost nothing! This "walk through" along with the tips in the series really took a LOT of the fear out of the equation for me. This video in particular really helped me understand how to get where i need to be and stay there. And that made it so much less intimidating. Im so grateful, thank you again Leisa!

I watched your video and today used my jiggler for the first time. Omg it is so much easier than with the regulator. I canned 10 pints of raw pack round roast and three pints of water, double stacked. All the meat with for jar lids sealed. I had Kerr lids for the water. As par for Kerr lids lately one didn’t seal. Almost no siphoning happened and I didn’t have to watch the jiggler like I always have to have my eyes on the gauge with the regular. This is game changing for me. Like you said I can be near it doing dishes , folding laundry etc and not have it fluctuating and risking starting over or siphoning.

Love your video. I’m a new canner and I have the regulator and I have to watch the gauge. I ordered a juggler after watching your video and should get it tomorrow. So excited to see if it will make it easier to use my presto pressure canner. Thanks for your easy examination and definitely was good to see it in action.

I meant jiggler not juggler. I’m so excited to get started with my jiggler.

Thank you. I just got my new 23 quart presto and was surprised the jiggler was not included. I just did my first session with the gauge and I hated it. For 75 minutes I was constantly having to adjust temperature. I ordered the jiggler using your link. I hope you get a commission from it. Every little bit helps.

Thank you so much for giving me the confidence to use my new Presto Canner! I have a digital pressure canner but really wanted to can more than 4 at once. My new Presto has been sitting in it's box for over a week now. It's very intimidating when you've never done it this way before. Their instructions are so vague. I've been watching your 101 videos over and over and finally, I did the mock run with water this afternoon. Now, tonight, I'm making lots of jars of your baked beans! Thank you again. You are such a great teacher and a great confidence builder.

Thank you so much. My older pressure canner you didn't have a dial and you didn't have to let it vent for 10 minutes. It had a jiggler. Thank you for showing the difference between the jiggler and the regulator.

Venting is absolutely necessary regardless of the type of regulator

Thanks Leisa. I was lucky enough to have a jiggler included with my twice used, 2nd hand, pre loved Presto canner so will be trying this on my next session. I watched this, and another video about jigglers, so I think I got it now! 😊

Thank you so much for this video! I rewatched this vid and herd you say "keep the heat at about medium while pressurizing after you place the weight or the jiggler on". I have been having trouble with sealing failures and siphoning with a full Presto 23qt. Such a disappointment. While having my canner up to high heat to pressurizing, I could hear those jars bouncing/rocking around in the canner. I always thought "Dang..those things are moving around too much, I hope they seal". But I pressurized on high as others have done before me. Im never going to pressurize that way again and tonight Im using a weighted regulator/gauge (jiggler) as we speak. I already love that thing. Unfortunately I pressurized on high this time before I re-watched this vid..so well see if I have sealing failures or siphoning. Yes, I could actually watch this vid and comment while my canner was doing its thing using the jiggler. I did not have to stand within 2 feet from the canner to be sure it stayed at 10-12 PSI using the provided Presto gauge. I just listened to the jiggler doing its hula dance (lol) and occasionally glanced at it. Soooo much easier to use the jiggler. Happy me! Oh, FYI-I tried those PUR canning jars/lids/bands...long story but they are an epic failure on every level. Dont seal, bands are warped and the jars are not consistent in construction and they etched on first time canning. Dont waste your money. Buy Ball/Kerr jars/lids/bands. If you really want a premium lid buy ForJars.com lids online.

Leisa, Thank you, thank you, thank you!! My old presto I cant use on my flat top stove so bought one for my stove with pressure gauge. I hate the pressure gauge!! I took jiggler from old, it fits the new canner!! I rewatched this video, have fish in canner with jiggler, made my life so much easier today! ❤
