Without actually seeing the weed its probably Henbit. Google it and see if that's what the ones in your yard looks like.

I just mowed for the second time. With the little bit of TTTF that germinated last fall is already nice and green but pesky annual ryegrass is all over. I've been digging some up here and there but looking forward to summer killing them. I'm aiming for improvement this season, not perfection.

Thats good to hear. The lawn is a process and it does not happen over night. I constantly say, most of the beautiful lawns that you see and admire have been worked on consistently for several years/seasons. Just continue to be consistent, learning, and WORKIN! We Workin!!!

Great pre-season advice Cameron! I just received my soil kit and probe and I checked the lawn in a few places temps were 34 to 36 degrees probable a few weeks out yet for 50 degrees. If I can get the soil samples, should I get them now and send them to the lab or wait for the 50 degree mark the lab said I would have the results in a couple of days.

If your ground is not frozen get them now so you can start putting together your plan for the year. You dont want to wait until its go time to start putting together your plan. Thanks for watching!

Im East Coast transition zone in Maryland. Our soil temps are averaging around 50 degrees or so but they have spiked much higher for a few days.

@@ElevatedLawnscapes Cam, what's the name of the video. Also I was told if you use fertilizer with the pre-emergent the grass should be coming out of dormancy and should mowed at least a few times. I really don't want to wait to cut and wait for the grass to turn green . I leaning towards getting the pre-emergent down without fertilizer for full protection then fertilize once I get my lab results.

That advise does not not make sense to me, maybe there are some details being left out. If you wait until the lawn has been mowed a few times, you have missed your window and weed seeds have already germinated. If your grass is growing that vigorously so are the weeds, most of the times the weeds start growing before the grass. I do not agree with that advice. As you will hear in the video linked above, I use a WDG pre-emergent so I can control the rate of application. If I want to add additional products I can control all my rates unlike using a pre-made fert and pre-emergent. Hope this helps.

I got hit with the rough stalk bluegrass. Got a bad batch of seeds from the box store(never again) what should I use to get rid of it here in NJ? Can I cut it low and just over seed on top of it to crowd it out?

Rough stalk Bluegrass or Poa Triv is a tough one to get out of your cool season lawn. You can either dig it out and replace that area or you spray it out with a non- selective herbicide. Either scenario you will need to reseed or add sod into those areas.

Speedzone does not kill either one of those. Its is an effective broadleaf weed control.

Typically, I do not deal with many of the woody type weeds, just some typical broadleaf winter weeds that are pretty easy to get rid of and have had good success with it. Tzone is a good one also with the Triclopyr and 2-4-d doing the heavy lifting along with Sulfentrazone. Triad Select TZ is another good one also.
