Yes, it's the, "THE ALL-STAR." A new constellation I'd like your help to get the IAU to officially recognize. Seeing as how you've taken on the IAU and won. My idea for changing the stars includes Orion, Taurus and Pleiades (Subaru). Figure it's time to put something up there that's relevant to us, don't you think? Take Orion's belt and "Betelgeuse" becomes the head with a baseball hat. The 3 stars of Orion's belt make up the 3 fat belt loops on a baseball uniform. Below the belt are two legs bending at the knee. "Saiph" is the back foot and "Rigel" is the front foot. The spear pointing at Subaru/Pleiades is the bat and Subaru/Pleiades is the baseball flying away after being hit. "Bellatrix" is the hand that let go and "Aldebaran" of Taurus is the bat's tip. Put it all together and you get, "THE ALL-STAR." In my case, I see a left-handed batter with a, "7," on the jersey. Which makes him, "Mickey." (As it should be) But you can put any number you want, making, "THE ALL-STAR," any player you want. Please help

In italian, "noon" is "mezzogiorno" (literally mid-day) which comes from the latin "meridies"... which originates also the word "meridian". How I remember latidute vs longitude: Picture a balloon that looks like the Earth, with a pencil in the middle pointing towards the surface. As the balloon rotates, if we move the pencil up or down from the middle line (called the equator) at a certain angle called latitude, it will create a line that runs parallel to the equator. This line is also called the latitude. But, if we move the pencil left or right (east or west) at a different angle called longitude and change the rotation of the balloon to be north to south, the pencil will create a line called longitude.
@shelbydonaldson58624 күн бұрын
i remember thinking of it as if you are climbing up a really tall LADDER (latitude). With the rungs, or steps, of the ladder representing latitude, and the ladder rails stretching all the way from the bottom of the earth (south pole) to the top of the earth (north pole) representing longitude. My mind also thinks like, it is a LONG way up, haha! 🤷♀️ always worked for me...

Actually Neil, there are 12 constellations in the Zodiac if we exclude Libra. You see Libra was added by the Romans which meant that they chopped off the claws of the Scorpion to design Libra. So let's restore Scorpius to its rightful place and justice will be done instead of divined. Also not all constellations are equal. Virgo has a width of some 45 degrees like with Pisces. I'm not into astrology, yet there is a form known as 'sidereal astrology' which takes into account constellation width and precession and if it was me, returning the claws to Scorpio. Kind regards.

@@bllaccktesla180I'm sorry but I don't agree with you. The information I gave is not "mission critical" but rather "historical" and which it is easy for a person not to be up-to-date with. The zodiac system is a Western cultural perception of arranging star patterns. If you check out other cultures you will find they have different displays for the zodiac; nothing traumatic about that. On the otherhand when we are speaking about scientific information, this refers to info that can be repeatedly tested and verified. There is no misinformation here, just a few snippets that Neil may not have known about. Btw I think the Chinese have the zodiac resemble a very long dragon; so it's all about "seeing things".

Well of course our Western zodiac is cultural since there is nothing "scientific" about the zodiac itself. The Vernal Equinox isn't just a calendar day, it's a point in the sky where the ecliptic crosses the celestial equator as the sun moves northward in March. When the ancients figured this out, around 2000 years ago, the Vernal Equinox was on the boundary between the constellations Pisces and Aries. Historically, it's also been called the first point in Aries. As the past two mellenia have gone by, precession of the celestial poles, also called precession of the equinoxes, has moved the Vernal Equinox through Pisces to the boundary with the next zodiac constellation, which happens to be Aquarius. And that's why we have the song "This is the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius." I'm not into astrology, but like it or not, this is part of the story Dr. Tyson was telling.

And this is why, on your birthday, the stars are aligned exactly where they were when you were born. 😊 and originally, there were 13 months, which is why the sun goes throughout 13 zodiacs instead of 12.

please I have a question, since time runs slower on Jupiter due to its gravitational force compared to Earth's time. if Earth and Jupiter were to be placed side by side and an observer in each of them to measure the time it takes for sunlight to reach them. since the light will travel the same distance and it takes 8mins for it to reach Earth, will the time measured by the observer on Jupiter be less since time runs slower on it? that is, will the time in the internal clock of the observer on Jupiter be less?

I am 60 years in this Life. I was born 12/14/63, and I have not ever resonated with Sagittarius. Ever. It took my Regulus-born son, to introduce me to the Ophiuchus constellation. I started to research, investigate, and study. I started to resonate with I found.

There are 13 lunations too. It seems relevant to have a 13 month calendar.

This is just a sad statement on the state of our current education system. I'm 55 and learned this back in public school the early 80's.

Please do more of an explanation about right ascension. I’ve never really understood it. I knew it was measured in hours, minutes, and seconds, but relative to what?

Neil! Please please please do an explainer on how to understand how ‘high’ the moon will be in the sky relevant to where someone is standing. I try to understand / find this for full moon hikes and it’s almost impossible. It’s very helpful as the ‘higher’ the moon is the more light one gets. Hope that makes sense. Thank you!

If I am not a Virgo. What Am I now?

@mrthud1981 Look into Sidderreal Astrology. I think that is what they mean by your star sign is shifted by one constellation. Usually in Sidderreal Astrology, they shift your sign back one. It's the Hindu version of astrology. They go off of the moon precession versus the sun.

The constellation Leo has moved to where the Virgo constellation used to be, so some people will say that you're a Leo. I look at it this way. Let's say you live in one of 12 houses on a circular cul-de-sac. You live in the 3rd house which has the numeral 3 on it. One day you come home and you see there's a numeral 2 on your home and your former house numeral is now next door on house 4. Does that mean you're going to pack up your things and move into house 4 just because it now has the numeral 3 on it? No. You stay right where you are. The addresses [constellations] have changed, but the homes remain the same.

My GF took an astrology class in the 70s, I don't buy it but she did in fact use polar coordinates to precess the sky. Claiming that they don't undermines your argument.
