Chuck said something very important early in the video. He said we are learning all our lives whether we want to or not. He added that some people learn the easy way (by educating themselves and reducing their own ignorance), some people learn the hard way. So true.

@@StarTalk The ultimate mathematical unification (AND UNDERSTANDING) of physics/physical experience combines, BALANCES, AND includes opposites. The BALANCE of what is gravity WITH what is inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE requires and involves TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE, AS gravity AND ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy are linked AND BALANCED opposites (ON BALANCE); AS this CLEARLY explains the fourth dimension; AS ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE); AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. INSTANTaneity is fundamental to what are TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE. Accordingly, ON BALANCE, INSTANTaneity is fundamental to what is the FULL and proper understanding of physics/physical experience; AS the extension of what is SPACE is CLEARLY (AND NECESSARILY) electromagnetic/gravitational ON/IN BALANCE. What is GRAVITY IS, ON BALANCE, an INTERACTION that cannot be shielded or blocked. What is E=MC is taken directly from F=ma, AS the rotation of WHAT IS THE MOON matches the revolution; AS the stars AND PLANETS are POINTS in the night sky. Great. INDEED, c squared CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY represents a dimension of SPACE ON BALANCE. ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE), AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. “Mass"/ENERGY involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE consistent WITH/AS what is BALANCED electromagnetic/gravitational force/ENERGY, AS gravity/acceleration involves BALANCED inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE (ON BALANCE). A given PLANET (including what is THE EARTH) sweeps out equal area in equal TIME. Great. What is E=MC is taken directly from F=ma. Consider TIME AND time dilation ON/IN BALANCE. INDEED, consider what is THE EYE ON BALANCE !!! Notice WHAT IS the fully illuminated AND setting/WHITE MOON ON BALANCE !!! NOW, consider what is the TRANSLUCENT AND BLUE sky ON BALANCE !!! So, consider what is the orange AND setting Sun ON BALANCE. ELECTROMAGNETISM/energy is CLEARLY AND NECESSARILY proven to be gravity (ON/IN BALANCE), AS TIME is NECESSARILY possible/potential AND actual ON/IN BALANCE. Inertia/INERTIAL RESISTANCE is proportional to (or BALANCED with/as) what is GRAVITATIONAL force/ENERGY, AS the extension of what is SPACE is CLEARLY (AND NECESSARILY) electromagnetic/gravitational ON/IN BALANCE. I appreciate the frank conversation about life/consciousness and touching upon how its temporary nature is what gives it so much value. I feel like it's always hard to speak candidly about this kind of stuff (and especially so publicly and with the reach this show has) because religious and cultural norms can create such a negative backlash to anything that undermines people's beliefs. So in short, I just really appreciate how matter of fact you are about it. It really *is* simple, and it feels like so many problems in society could have been avoided if our cultures weren't so socially acceptive (and in many cases welcoming) of belief without justification.
@DarkestVoid

I’m not religious in the least bit I do think there HAS to be something after death we just have no way of proving it. We can’t see what happens when someone is dead from the person who died’s perspective. And that state of where there’s nothing we don’t know how long that happens. Like Neil said we don’t have a conscious awareness before we exist so who’s to say something doesn’t happen to where one day we suddenly become aware but in another person’s body. I feel out of all things the most likely scenario is rebirth. I see no possible way where we die and then there’s nothing at all. There has to be something else.

@@DarkestVoid There really doesn't "have to be something else" , it's just chemicals and biology at work. Do you think trees go to a better place? What about bacteria? what about things that are so close to just being simple chemistry we don't even call it "life", like viruses? Make the most of it, the time after you die will be _exactly_ like it was before you were born ...

From the beginning of this video, talking about some people appreciating being in school, because their only job is being a student, that was precisely my experience when I went back to college in my mid 30s. It was such a liberating feeling to be in school. Every day of class was a thrill, and that never waned over the length of my 3 years of study. What a privilege and a joy it was to have learning be my job.

you sit still in school because that's the only way you can truly and accurately retain information. your brain can't cement your learning into long term memory if you're busying it with other tasks. watching these videos while going about your day may be fuel for curiosity, but it's a far cry from learning and retaining information.
@robbin.bankss

to prove my point, can you summarize what this video taught you about time dilation? WITHOUT going and watching it again? no, you can't. because you didn't learn it, you just used it as bubblegum for your curiosity. nothing wrong with it.

Also, guys I've a suggestion- please start explaining equations so that along with understanding the concepts we can also see the application. For e.g. F= gm1m2/r1r2 | Here if Niel can help us understand how was the equation derived and why arranged this way mathematically and conceptually. Might encourage me at least to not just understand but apply.

We got Dr. Tyson in this reality. Thats good.

Hmm, a correction. There were microbes during the Carboniferous era. But it was also during this era that woody and bark-bearing trees evolved. It took microorganisms and fungi some time to develop the enzymes needed to digest lignin, the main component of wood. However, a more likely reason for the large coal deposits were the rapidly dropping sea levels, which led to the spread of huge swamps. Even to this day, swamps show conditions that prevent rapid decompositon.

I have learnt a lot from this Edition and only look forward to learn more. However, I have my reservations on the question of whether we live in or on earth. First, I think we should appreciate that the word "earth" simply means "ground." For me, it is safe to say that we live on Earth because the primary meaning of earth was the ground we live in. This word, however, changed in the scienific world to mean the whole mass of land, sea, and all that encompass the planet (Considering all other planets were being named from Greek gods except earth). So going back to its use in language, I still think it's imperative to say that we live ON earth.

I am troubled by Neil's explanation of mirror flipping. The reason that (flat) mirrors 'flip' us horizontally and not vertically is that they don't flip us at all, or rather, they flip us in the plane of the mirror. In physical space, in order to turn something front to back, we must either rotate it vertically, flipping it top to bottom AND front to back, or rotate it horizontally, flipping it left to right and front to back. Since we don't ordinarily see people flipped top to bottom and since we can very quickly confirm the vertical orientation of the self in the mirror, we intuitively expect the left-to-right flip, and it is the absence of that flip that we notice. Am I misunderstanding this? Or have I misunderstood the explanation given here?

EARLY for a change. Love it, another great episode. Is it just me, or is it SO easy to forget the basics unless you work with it all the time. Ugh.

Man, I miss being in college. All my engineering classes were always so facinating. I'm still learning after graduation however!

making school fun leads to learning. so if they are having a fun time teaching things, the youth will remember easier cause they remember having a good time. apposed too most classes are kinda droning and boring which most people don't really remember boring and unrememberable times... just a thought

This is wonderful which proves the survey would be an extemporaneous endeavor. See I can sound knowledgeable without being smart enough to even understand what you are explaining sometimes. The explanation is good, but I often realize how difficult much of it is

One of the craziest things that I've been thinking of is that dinosaurs could have mimicked other animal life at one point in time just like parrots mimic other animal life. And if humans were around, who knows maybe there would have been talking dinosaurs at one point. However if anyone wants to know why parrots mimic sounds, it is to distinguish who is a part of their flock and who is not.

Reflection on a mirror is a special discussion. Light comes from the sun or bulb, and the size of the precision of the color is seen from your eyes and the mirror at any direction, as long as you can see yourself and without deformation on that plane. I once thought that we maybe need to send physical rays to see what's in front of us , because light doesn't seem to be the air that transmits the image to the eye. In computing, you need to send those rays per pixel, the limit of precision the monitor can see, but not scaled, scaled like displacement towards the object with the eye camera. Mostly for depth. From the eyes, we need to understand depth and 3D in space, some have issues with that, like catching a fly with fingers. I like your show. Really interesting.

I hope you'll explain the quantum entanglement experiment which won the noble prize in physics this year. I watched so many videos read so many articles but found it hard to understand.😅 You are my only hope. 😬

Doppler effect for light waves is what Tyson is talking about when reffering to space-time dilation in reference to objects, by separating the speed of one, into their own speeds of space and time, relative to the actual space-time speed. The space in between and any object in it is subject to a doppler effect, which is what time dilation is. I'm not including gravitational effects for the light waves as they travel from point a to point z in my equation yet.
