Great vid, love that feeling when they start up after so long idle. Got my one started last night after a long long time of it sitting in boxes and a rebuild. Put 5 litres of good 98 octane in the tank, new battery and after about 3 seconds of cranking it burst into life, sounds incredibly crisp and responds very cleanly to the throttle. Tho it should after all the time and money getting it back to bog stock.

Just want to say thanks again for posting this, I rebuilt my carbs, heated up the boots to slide them on, and put some gas in like you did lol my 90 GSXR 1100 started in 40 secs after sitting for about 14 years. Super happy, thanks for the inspiration.

Finally this morning I got mine to fire up having had the carbs on and off half a dozen times (just about got the knack now) - what a feeling after all the years seeing it fester away in my garage - maybe my son will turn it into cash now - but I doubt it!!

Congratulations! Fix and ride it!

Its in remarkably good condition for sitting for so long. I had a swine of a time fitting my carbs on 36 year old inlet rubbers that had turned to stone, double so because i had the factory air box fitted, I ended up boiling them in Armourall then fitting them while they were still hot, then squeezing the carbs past the airbox rubbers and pushing them into the inlets. Twice, because the first time i forgot to hook up the throttle cable (which is also a swine to hook up with carbs and air box in situ. Anyway its 99% back together after a bare frame refurbish, its an 86 1100.
@advbikeguy2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the hint regarding the throttle cable. Boiling in armour all is a good idea.

Such a helpful video - thanks. I'm about to refit the carbs to my son's 1988 GSX-R750 after it has festered in my garage for well over a decade; and was wondering what to do with the two fuel lines when testing. Your single line in has clarified the problem and I'm now wondering about hooking up the petcock and vacuum line when the tank goes on. Can't wait to hear mine when she eventually fires up. Thanks again.
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
The second line is a Vacuum line, and does need to be reattached during the final build.

I have a 2001 GSXR 1100 that is been stored in the garage for about 5 years. I took the battery out and I can't remember or locate where the battery goes. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Great video, I have two questions please. Do you know how to remove the original airbox on a 1986 Gsxr 1100 My bike is been sitting for 38 years with 2,000 miles It was a big surprise when I got it started. But I would like to change the carburetors install. New Mikuni 39 what do you think? Thank you

It turns out that number 3 cylinder had faulty spark plug wire, and was firing intermittently.

Pick up a spare set of the OEM Carb boots while you can,,,,sounds good ADV

What air filter are you running? I have the original air box but it makes taking the carbs of an absolute nightmare. Lot of people say pods are a no no. Thanks.
@SirGuidemere91 Жыл бұрын
With pods you need to rejet since the open air element filters introduce more airflow, making it lean. But with more air and fatter jets, you should have a bit more power.
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
If you switch to the pods, you will need to re-jet the carbs. I bought an OEM air filter for this build.

The Engine and exhaust were sprayed with ACF50 Anti corrosive oil to stop any rust. Its burning off.

I hate how hard the inlet boots they get over the years if you aren’t careful you’ll mess up the carbs synchronization. Always synchronized the cars after mount them
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
That's the plan, I will resend the carbs after mounting. Lots to do first!

I’ve got a 89 gsxr 1100 , just replaced oil oil filter and battery and at first it clicked over saw some lights and headlights . After a couple attempts at starting I lost all power . When I press the horn it clicks and it won’t even try to start , any tips?
@vq_phil Жыл бұрын
I don’t have a socket deep enough to reach the spark plugs either lol , I’m thinking it’s an electrical issue or something with my starter , gonna be bringing the bike into a service shop soon .

88 motor in a first gen chassis?
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
'88 was the last year of 1st gen production. Production was stopped earlier than normal to retool for the 2nd gen production. 1988 slabby's are the rarest due to low production numbers.
