Great video, I have two questions please. Do you know how to remove the original airbox on a 1986 Gsxr 1100 My bike is been sitting for 38 years with 2,000 miles It was a big surprise when I got it started. But I would like to change the carburetors install. New Mikuni 39 what do you think? Thank you

Great video-- clear, communicates and demonstrates precisely the info I was looking for. I just received the same guard, but no instructions included. Install is obvious and simple enough, but the torque spec is what I needed. Thank you!

ANYONE Who takes these motors apart to Quote Rebuild them has there head up there ass...unless the motor your rebuilding has been drag raced to death & beaten to within inches of its life your an EGG HEAD filled with delusions of your own self excellence . Your talking about arguably the most tried & true brutally indestructible motor ever made for Bikes I have personally only seen them fail when engine oil was some how involved or the lack thereof . But to take one apart for shits & giggles is an excersize in self Ejackulation ..Good luck .. Big Motorcycle Gemius ...I know a guy exactly like you and behind his house he has a pile of bikes that just never seemed to end up going back together...

You can't go wrong with a Factory workshop manual, I managed to get one for my 86 1100 from the local Suzuki dealer when they were closing down. And lately after years of searching (and actually being told they never printed one) i found a Factory, Yamaha printed manual for my 87 FZR1000, it was pricey with the shipping to NZ but well worth it. The Haynes one for these bikes does the 600s, 750s and 1000s from 87 to 96. Its trying to cover many models and years, and there are mistakes in it.

Opening the throttle wide open does little with CV carbs as the slides are down. Your compression test is only a little low as you did it cold. Mine only reads 137psi. Your junk china gauge could be the problem! Slightly tight valves will lower the compression too. The factory specs are not accurate.
@advbikeguy
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
I have a second GSXR1100, and cold it reads 165psi with the gauges that I used in the video. They have been confirmed as accurate, using other testing guages.. Personally, I will go with factory spec, but, each to his/her own.

The two ball bearings that fell out when you removed the choke rail, where do they go? And how do they go back in? Same thing happened to me and I can’t figure out where they go.
@advbikeguy
@advbikeguy Жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel. On the middle two carbs there is a small hole on the outside where the choke rod slides through. Inside the carb slide, you need to insert the spring and then the ball bearing. place them with some grease to hold them. When you insert the rod, use a small screw driver to push down on the ball bearing as you slide in the rod.

got a Haynes manual for my gsx and the order in which they have you set the timing mark and which valves to adjust is incorrect. so you can throw that in the trash and use the manual for clearances and torque specs only.

A haynes manual also led me astray on my 87 FZR1000, i found quite a bit of the info was incorrect after i found a Factory Manual that was printed by Yamaha. The trouble with many haynes manuals is they cover too many models in one book, the FZR one covered the 600, 750, (including the OW01) and the 1000s from 87 to 95, its too many, no wonder mistakes are made.
