It's really great to see the story of how you've come along in your journey and a shame places like this get knocked down for housing as it prevents the next generation from having spaces like this

Thanks! Looking back, it has been a long old journey! Makes you realise how old your getting :-( Nowadays there is more money in houses so I guess alot of these buildings will go !

@@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop you don't stop because you get old you get old because you stop, you're still younger that the generation before you who are still working, I think the important thing is sharing knowledge which KZbin helps with as well!

Good honest vid, best of luck to you moving forward and its nice to see you dont forget where you started like a lot of folks nowadays. I have a similar story to yours but Iam now in the process of winding up as the reality for me is no one wants to pay for quality workmanship these days. I know plenty guys like me in their mid to late fifties with good bench skills who have had to pack it in as no one wants them nowadays and its a struggle to get money in. The thought of collecting trolleys in Tesco carpark to pay the bills does not please me but needs must and it saddens me at the loss of skill that wont be passed on to the younger generation. Wishing you good luck and always do your best.

I'm thinking about retraining as a carpenter.. Is it possible to start a business without a workshop doing smaller jobs like decking, fencing, shelving etc?
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, yes definitely! There's no reason why not as you wouldn't need a workshop really, just the right hand tools and power tools/machines 😁

Good video just a quick question other wheels on your new bench to lift up to move is it difficult because you have to adjust the height by hand.
@thelondoncraftsmanworkshop

Hi the stopper on the wheels are the only thing that are adjustable. I can't move my bench around as I used the stoppers to level my.bench as my floor is not level

I particularly like your final screen. My father was a senior civil servant and very different from me and what I thought I wanted to do. So, he couldn’t help me in a physical or experience manner but I guess he did what he could just by being there. I’ve been an MD of a large business and I employed my daughter - not reporting to me and the Director concerned was told clearly by me in front of my daughter that she was to be treated exactly the same as everyone else. I was able to make an introduction for one of our sons to a supplier of ours and, 20 years later, he is still in that industry albeit not with the same firm and in Australia. Another son work for an upmarket RV company making their interiors, mainly wood. I was able to help him by access to my own wood workshop. The last son is a Royal Marine Commando - continuing a tradition of service to the Corps in our family going back over 140 years. We also have 6 grandchildren. The way we have given help to our children has been partly introductions, partly family history and partly sparking an enthusiasm and, at times, financial when needed. But the biggest gift we have strived to give to our children is support and encouragement; don’t force your experiences/likes and dislikes on them; sometimes, allow them to make mistakes that you were pretty sure were coming; be there when needed but not in the way. Now, our oldest granddaughter is 15 and thinking about her work life. All of this comes down this. If our children posted your final screen message about us, then we would know that we have done most things right. Ryan, you were lucky with your Dad - then he is lucky to have a son who recognises what your Dad is
