Kan! At 7:28, you were doing the old method to make the switch go that way. If you look in the top corner, you can switch what end of the rail switch you want to control. This way you can just place it and not have to do the whole mess of building out then using a cross road and then placing a switch.

*IMPORTANT* list of things to know about the beta version of RO! 1: If you press 8 or 2 wile building switches, they will do something used for aligning them to other switches. 2: *THE TRAINS DO NOT GO FASTER* , it's the old trains on the new splines, but it's still the old rail collision system. 3: I recommend building a max radius of 40m, you can go more that that but it will become spicy going around them full speed. 4: after you get a lot of splines made, the game will start to lag. (you won't have to worry about this for a wile though) 5: for the pin and link you don't need to move your mouse up/down, it is now right/left click only.

The talk on mechanics and tension was pretty interesting. Though this is more thermal variance related than tension related, it reminded me of that story about the concord jet. Because of the temperature the plane's body got up to in flight was so high the structure of it expanded in flight, but the cabin was thermally isolated so it didn't. The end result was up near the cockpit there was a place where a gap would be allowed to appear as the plane essentially stretched, but when they landed it would go back to normal. Naturally one of the crew members once put a hat in the gap, and said hat was stuck when the plane landed.

I live in a real old logging town in the Adirondack Park in New York. The logs were chopped and floated down the river to the lake that the river spilled into. Once they were in the lake, they were hauled out, milled, and loaded onto a railroad to be shipped all over the state. The town doesn't do nearly as much logging anymore as it is mostly a tourist spot now, and our railway has been inactive for a long time. One month ago, the first locomotive transit from Utica, New York -> Tupper Lake, New York in 42 years was opened for the inauguration of the newly repaired track. I sadly missed the arrival of the locomotive, but I was ecstatic to hear that there are hopes that this will mark the beginning of a regularly scheduled passenger transit into the town. Prior to this, the town hadn't seen a train enter since before my parents' were even born. Hopefully this will become a regular occurrence that I might share with my son. I've never even been on a train, except in museums. I look forward to my first train ride being shared with my child, just as people hundreds of years ago in this same town got to experience with their own children.

I find that circle mode helps a lot with making good track and if you run into a switch on the opposite side it will automatically switch to to the side of track that you're on so you don't derail and you can change the link point on the switches themselves
@frogsshadow41892 жыл бұрын
The weights on the wheels are counter weights to the rods connecting all the wheels. Also engines don't run backwards because much of the engine will not work if run backwards, things like oil and water pumps, as well as valves letting air in and out and when the spark plug and fuel injectors fire. If you disconnect the pumps and the valves you could run an engine backwards (though being able to switch directions would be difficult)
@satoshinakomoto75382 жыл бұрын
Actually kAN, some car engines can go backwards too! Single piston engines work like you said, they start in one direction, and then continue to run in the same direction. Running the engine backwards also gets harder as you add pistons, because of ignition timings and how 4 stroke engines work. However, 2 stroke engines also exist :D, but to be honest, they kinda are similar to steam engines. Especially on old tractors for example the "Lanz Bulldog" has a 2 stroke single cylinder engine and even though it has a flywheel, it "can" run backwards, or even just oscillate without even making a full turn! ~
@alkestos2 жыл бұрын
I can't imagine the power being that great when oscillating.
@Nevir2022 жыл бұрын

Toggle Circle Mode on to lay perfectly strait track(assuming you didn't add a Radius). When you toggle Circle mode on it'll give you the length of the spline you're currently building. You can use that for measuring out distances between track. Save's you lots of time from laying Cross over pieces and picking them up again. You can also Toggle the switches Attach point now as well(cycles between all three), no need to use the old fiddly lay multiple switches and cross pieces to get the spacing you want.

Fun fact: if you were driving some old 2 stroke engines up a hill, and you had too much load, the engine could reverse the rotation and the vehicle would speed up down the hill. It was a big problem for tractors at the time, 2 stroke cars were much lighter, and 4 stroke cars usually don't have this problem. But it's fun knowing it could just have happened

I think it had something to do with the terms of service some people Some people completely misunderstood it and threw a fit on the discord and started spreading lies online. (Note: i might be wrong about this but i remembering hearing about it)
@masonkpiano2 жыл бұрын
@@milan5210 specifics weren’t released but you can find fragments over different social medias. Here’s my understanding: RO! was a volunteer based work group. Keume was the sole profiteer of RO! And then with the whole LGBTQ conflict, the RO Discord got revamped and RO took a hit as the public reacted harshly to what happened. Eventually some behind the scenes things happened with the members of the RO team being negative with other members and even more so when Keume became selfish about the game (supposedly). Certain team members left RO and The discord was eventually shut down completely. The RO Community got cast aside from their developers. On steam, there has been some updates like a company merger and new team and some comment forums for Q&A’s. Most people felt pushed aside and confused for it all and this is my understanding, we still don’t know any specifics and I’m sure we never will. A know a few people won’t play RO again as it had so much potential but now is a little lack luster.

I hate to disappoint, but the speed limit on the engines still seems to be in effect. I haven't gotten my hands on the class 70 yet, but if the Glenbrook is anything to go by, the speed limit still feels like the same as before the spline update. As said a long time ago, the high speeds can still cause some weird physics to happen, but it got toned down a lot with the new splines. That's my experience with the new update anyways. Still shows a lot of promise once the kinks are ironed out. I personally cant wait for when everything runs on the tracks as smooth as that beta test Betsy did.

My favorite train is a steam train called the Big Boy (there are multiple and one is still working but my favorite is the one in the national train museum in Wisconsin) and my dad's favorite is a steam train called the Allegheny (only one remaining) and it is in the Henry Ford museum, they are both locomotives referred to as "supper powers" that are basically really big and powerful steam engines ("super powers" were discontinued when diesel trains became a thing) the Big Boys were bigger but were better on flat land, and the Alleghenys were smaller but more powerful and were meant for mountains. But overall, thank you Henry Ford for protecting trains, cars, furniture owned by people like Abe Lincoln, old farming equipment, and even entire buildings He put in Greenfield Village right next to the museum (Henry Ford was the guy that made the model-T, and of course there is at least one in his museum) I would definitely recommend checking out both the National Train Museum in Wisconsin and the Henry Ford museum, lots of cool stuff in both.
