I am from Europe, so I don;t know much about USA regarding this topic (and many others, I guess). Why is it so uncommon for convicted fellon to have roof over head and a job? Here those things are so basic, anyone can have them...

After Cain murdered Abel, God allowed him to start a new life in a different place and marked him to prevent him from being killed by others. Through these acts of mercy, God reminds us that even in spite of our weakness - or outright depravity - God is a God of grace and second chances.

Even with the right technique and assets some investors would still make more than others. As an investor, you should've known that by now that nothing beats experience and that's final. Personally I had to reach out to a stock expert for guidance which is how I was able to grow my account close to $35k, withdraw my profit right before the correction and now I'm buying again.

Congrats to you, sir, you are already in a much better place than you were in a year ago. One bit of advice about how to look at your current tow-truck job: Be 100% grateful for it. They hired you, with a conviction on your record, which very few employers would be willing to do, and are giving you a chance to work, and to develop a positive work history. This job is part of your comeback story. You can plan for your next job while also valuing the job you have. For now, while you also plan for your next job/career, be the best tow-truck operator that you can be. Instead of thinking that $30k is "s*** money", realize that it is a lot more than you were making in prison, and that it's a huge step toward where you want to get to. A bunch of viewers are pulling for you. Best of luck to you.

You want them to be able to get back on track. Now think for a moment. This caller KNOWS he screwed up. He KNOWS he has to work on fixing things. As a society we have to make some amends and help people get back on track or they get back to doing what they are doing which is why Dave is setting him up with a mentor and role model to emulate. There was no mention of a dad, which I am willing to bet was not a role model or not even present. He is saying he is making sh*t money, not because he isn’t grateful to working but he knows it will be tough turning his life around at his current rate…. AND the appeal of “easy money” (by selling drugs) is out there. He’s trying and kudos to him for making the call for help.

I hope the church helps and mentoring. The money the sellers make can be tremendous. My husband worked in the cocaine era as a cop, 4000 a day is not unheard of. Gangs brought in 8.000. They would find 20,000 in a house at times. Horrible life, no security, death/shootings always lurking, turf wars etc. but I can see why 30,000 year to a guy so young seems "shitty". He's thinking guys made that a month. The church and new friends can show him walking with God and living a virtuous life is better.

I have relatives who struggle to walk the straight and narrow because it sucks. The sacrifices and mediocrity of the working class lifestyle feels like a let down for those who prefer easy money, but easy money ruins your life in the long run. This man needs to learn the love of patience and short term sacrifice for long term gain. He needs to feel pride in earning an honest but humble living and that’s not easy. Especially when your opportunities are looking bleak. The fact that he even thought to call Dave Ramsey says something for his character though, and I hope he makes it through to the other side!!!

Why does Dave assume the guy is any form of Christian by offering him a pastor as an advisor? He didn't even ask his religious beliefs so how does he know the caller would even be receptive to a religious leader or a religious community? Seems presumptive. How about a secular program or non-religious community?

I highly encourage this caller to work with a gent like Cal (that Dave Ramsey's contact). The first thing about doing something different is realizing you need help. The gent realizes this. As far as what else to do, figure out how to walk the straight and narrow. You can still turn this around. You can become another and become another George Steinbrenner. Just need to show you have changed and do something positive.

In many state prisons, prisoners still have the right to vote after they get out. A federal prison sentence removes the right to vote permanently (which I think is a mistake). I was voting and saw a man denied the right to vote. I stepped in and corrected them. Then I hung around and saw 2 more mistakes. Went home, registered as a poll watcher, and went back for the rest of the night. Caught 1 more mistake. Phoenix: Converting grass to gravel and NATIVE ground covers. Plus usually the homeowner will get paid. And always think what you want to do next. Oh, and since I'm a librarian look for Bill Sand's book "My shadow ran fast".

I'm glad you did what you did, however all this stuff you said about Phoenix, but do you still reside in Arizona, because I do. In Arizona, if you have been convicted of a felony, (and most drug charges are like the caller stated) then a person does not have the right to vote until 7 years after the person has been released from custody AND the person _still_ has to file to get the rights restored, it does NOT come automatically, which most people get wrong. I'm glad you became a poll worker, but if you really want to get involved deeper, are you a PC (precinct committeeman)? You can become one, but please make sure that you work on the correct side. Are you on the right side or the left side? Arizona has definitely had its problems even in the elections, and even more so now that the electors are being charged with election tampering because they voted for Trump. That is wrong and it sounds like the start of a dictatorship just like that things are going on in Hitler's Nazi Germany. Remember that Germans voted for Hitler. Please remember that in Arizona even the poll workers have come under strict scrutiny and poll workers have been shady. It's at the point where now it doesn't matter who you vote for, but what *really* matters are the folks who count and tabulate and input the votes.
@donaldlyons17

If money is a problem why would people care about voting? I would rather triple my income and not be able to vote vs. make 1/2 as much being able to vote. Voting normally does not pay my bills but money can solve some of them!!!!

Fast forward 2 years, all my charges were either dropped or expunged. Now, I am working on my masters degree that is fully online. Change is possible if you have the right people in your corner. It breaks my heart when I hear of people who go back, but this man is doing great. He is teaching us to have self-compassion. I hope he reads the comments.

Get a job, your own place to stay, cook and chill. Takes two years for the brain goes back to normal. Stop worrying about the money. Stop worrying about the ride and write down your goals. Put some distance between you and your girlfriend - too much stress. I had no one in my family that prospered. You can make money sell hotdogs down town and I didn't have any mentor.

My husband was a cop and that happened to many. Outsiders would say, just work at Walmart, just get a job at such and such place, with no idea what kind of money they were bringing in before. Sure they had to hide it but it's triple what most get a year and quicker. The danger, the angst is awful but it's hard to let go of if you were always poor. Back in the cocaine era, they were making 8000 a day in gangs. A single person, 3-4000 a day or week depending on the area/need.

As a convicted felon having your own business will be the easiest way for you to make more money. You have the right spirit but need to keep it on the right side of the law or the correct side of the law. You got this! I know so many people and even have a family member who has ended up in prison, realized that was not the life they wanted and changed it and are doing fantastically. Heckers, I have one who was a lifer who earned his way out of a life sentence, and now speaks to kids about the dangers of gangs and how they will teach you to murder others. Trust me, if this guy can do it, then so can you!

You don't ask someone in prison, or out of prison, "What did you do." You can ask, "what are you in for," or "what were you in for." You don't want to do or have a confession from someone, that could actually be used against them in a court of law in the future. Everybody in prison didn't do it.
