⛵️Starting all over again... in a different country Ep.310

Well, the time has come. After two months visiting friends in Annapolis, Canada and family in Brazil, we are finally on our last flight on our way to France where we are gonna start our new life.
A life that I guarantee will be full of challenges but also full of beautiful moments. So let's start with challenge number one, to find our next project. I know, this is not a boat, but stick with us that it will all make sense by the end of this episode.

We are Duca and Roberta, a Brazilian couple that during a sabbatical trip in 2016 decided to follow our dream. So, we created "Odd Life Crafting", a project composed of many smaller projects that we call seasons.
The first one was the creation of Odd Life Crafting. The idea was to build a metal boat to be able to travel the world taking our house with us, but we didn't have money for that. So, we started the next season: we built a tiny shipping container house with no prior experience in building to gain some skills to build a boat. When we were almost finished we found a boat 700km away from our hometown that was neglected for over 22 years and we spent 2 years refitting her (Season 3). The last season has been a dream coming true… we are exploring the Brazilian coast with OUR BOAT that we called Odd.. But wait? What happened to the house? Some of the best van designs i’ve seen usually have the kitchen overhanging the side door by a foot or two, it won’r affect getting in and out. That enables you to have a fold up table on the outside which is handy and gives you more space inside.

Nice van, If we have a kid we'll have a bunk bed, are you telling us something 😉. I live in my overhead camper and pull it with my jeep patriot. I have a portable toilet I just empty once a week it's worked out fine for me. And I have a shower in my gazebo sitting right next to my camper. When I want to travel I just stop at a truck stop and shower or rest area to empty the portable toilet. I love my little house.

P.S. ....... Air Tag the luggage.....mine are, and when United lost my bag, I informed them that the bag was at their location, and gave them the GPS coordinates.....2 hours later bag was found and sent express to me. Can't wait to see what you do with the van, and of course the new boat, I am in to all of this tiny house, van, sailboat....I have 2 of the 3, and looking for land....maybe Puerto Rico..

HI guys, here in Spain, when we convert a cargo van to a camper van we usually remove the wall that is between the cabin and the cargo and convert the front seats to a “turnable” ones, like the VW Grand California for example. This allows to put a foldable table in front just beside the front seats and have an extra space, 20% more.

A ideia era sempre mostrar algo do barco masss… A construção do barco era pra ter começado em setembro e estamos em dezembro e o projeto ainda não está finalizado. A ideia é finalizar esta semana para pedir as chapas de alumínio e elas demoram 2 meses pra chegarem cortadas. Ou seja, a construção que era pra começar em setembro irá começar, talvez, em fevereiro. Estas coisas não dependem da gente. Temos tido reuniões semanais pra decidirmos coisas no design do barco. Dedos cruzados que a gente consiga pedir as chapas de alumínio esta semana.

Love your adventures. I can feel your pain about Air France loosing your suitcases. Back in 1966, I was flying from Lisbon to Luanda, Angola where I would live for a year but our luggage didn't make it. The Portuguese airlines (TAP back then) sent them to Rio de Janerio instead! So when friends ask me if I've ever been to Rio, I say, "No, but my luggage has!"

@toddr2265 - Beg to differ on terminology. A land yacht is a large RV with multiple slides. A built-out van has no other appellation: it continues to be a van. Built-out school busses are called skoolies. Converted trucks or step-trucks are still called as such even after being converted. Only large RVs are sometimes referred to as land yachts. Only rarely have I heard on any KZbin channel - those doing a build-out or those doing tours of built-out vehicles - refer to a RV as a land yacht and have never heard that term applied to any other type of built-out vehicle. In fact, the slang definition of a land yacht is "a huge car. Like big Buicks and Lincolns [cars from1950s-1970s]. The term came about because yachts are huge boats and a huge car is a yacht on the land." Dictionary Definition: " a 3-wheel wind-driven recreation vehicle consisting usually of a bare-frame structure and a single sail and used especially on areas of firmly packed sand."

It would seem that experience of building your container home is now worth a lot more, as you can utilise many of the skills you learnt back then. I look forward to seeing what you end up building as I have done much the same with a small truck that is just a little bit bigger than your van, and which I am currently driving around New Zealand in to do a couple of documentary film projects I am working on and have built a full editing and surround sound studio, so I can work while on the road.

That is why I never fly Air France. The chance of losing a bag is larger than the chance of getting the bag at arrival. It amazes me that you still have that problem. My experience with Air France is from the nineties last century.

They lost our luggage on our way to a Mediterranean cruise. My wife's luggage arrived the day before we left to go back home and mine came two months later. They paid for all of our clothes that were lost during that time.

It’s so annoying. They said we had the right of spending 200 euros max in clothes. This didn’t include other things we had inside the bags, I had some vitamins that I was taking daily that I didn’t take for 3 weeks because of them as I couldn’t find them in France and I was doing IVF treatment. The treatment didn’t work anyways but it could be super importante if the treatment had worked

@@OddLifeCrafting We went shopping near Venice and spent over a thousand dollars on clothes. Norwegian Cruise lines were amazing, they were phoning for us to try and find our luggage and they gave us daily free laundry service as well as some free shirts. The airline paid us for every single thing we had in our luggage as well as our suitcases. My suitcase alone was a payout of over 1100 Canadian or about 750 euros. Problem was that is was stressful and I can imagine in your situation you were just as stressed. They did upgrade us to first class on the way back for their mess up but we had to ask. It pays to ask by the way. I hope you guys are able to have a little one. I love my boys and am blessed with two little grand babies and one on the way in March. Babies are a ton of work but I wish we had four instead of two.

OK I'm curious. Why are you guys going with a aluminum sailboat? If you plan on going sailing to let's say the Artic or Antarctic then I can understand. But if you are just gonna stay in the tropics then I would stick with a fiberglass boat. Much cheaper as in buying a used boat. But you mentioned something about if you registered a used boat down where you come from you have to buy it from the country where you live. I think that's how I understood what you said.
