That's how I start my RX8 every time! Also a good tip if you live on a hill or just took a short drive or planning to store it for a long time when you park after you shut it off press the gas and crank the starter for one or two seconds this pushes all that dirty gas and exhaust out and leaves you with a clean combustion area. I only do this if the car wasn't fully warmed
@jo-qp7mz2 жыл бұрын
Yeah every time I start mine I hold the gas down so it doesn't start for 2 to 3 seconds to build oil pressure even when it's warm it helps it to not flood and start up smooth

I bought a Mazda rx-8 from an auction and it’s cranking but not running on completely. Will this work?

Did you
@mcohn162 жыл бұрын
Not because of this… because I let it sit again. The Rx-8 intentionally injects oil into the rotor. The syringe basically makes up for lost time
@AmarSharma-hu2bl2 жыл бұрын
@@mcohn16 if you know your about to let the car sit for a long period of time would a good idea be to do this and just let the oil sit in the engine so when you go to start it in the future it’s already there
@mcohn162 жыл бұрын
@@AmarSharma-hu2bl I’ve never tried that, so I don’t know if that would work or not. I think the real answer is not to let it sit. Force yourself to turn it on and go for a quick drive every few weeks. That was hard for me because I had 2 kids in car seats and stuck to me like glue. Best of luck!

Cool..I originally thought you were asking me since you replied to my question. Sorry
@mcohn162 жыл бұрын
Sorry guys! Nope. You just have to let it run for a few minutes and let all the junk clear out. The rotary is actually designed to “consume” oil. There’s actually a little pump that injects a small bot of oil into the rotor as it spins. Because it sits, the seals dry out. So injecting oil in freshens it up so to speak. Hope that made sense!

@@mcohn16 I mean that's kind of the idea, is to not leave it sitting too long and to keep the engine cool. I'm glad you sold it.

Never run synthetic oil on a rotary it won't last long..must be mineral oil
@mcohn162 жыл бұрын
Really? Never heard that before. Is it because it’s designed to “consume” oil?

@@mcohn16 synthetic oils build up carbon deposits inside the engine
@francoisluneau9 ай бұрын
@@mcohn16 It's specified very clearly in the manual. Similarly, the starting procedure in case of flooding the engine is also there, and most people never see it. The trick is similar to what you specified, just keep the gas pedal depressed before you turn on the ignition (it cuts off the gas pump) and while you start the engine for up to about 10 seconds at a time (not to overheat the starter), then wait 30 seconds to let it cool before starting anew until you feel that letting go the gas pedal allows the engine to start. Like you said, it's not an exact science, but works everytime.

Not true though is it, Mineral oil nowadays is quite hard to find and more expensive, Every rotary person ive spoken to says Semi-Synthetic is perfectly fine, but you should never use Fully

@@mcohn16 first of all 5w20 oil is not a good oil to run on a rx8 you should run 10w40 and premix it whit 2 stroke oil in the tank 8oz for a full tank you will keep it alive for a long time whit those tricks
