It’s an XUD engine after all. As long there is some diesel it will run for ever and ever and ever.

Also looks like is a vehicle where tge timing belt also runs the water pump 😮. That is a strange design. Do it like Detroit Diesel does it. The 60 series had gear-driven water pumps. 😊

We had 2x 2003 CI5s at a place I used to work, they really were indestructible, one of them was ran from Northampton to Watford daily for 6 months with no water in it. The one I had was a little less abused, it would do about 85mph flat out empty, and still do about 80mph filled up to the roof with stuff. You could still buy them brand new up till 2005ish for under £4000, think they only came in burgundy or white.

Poor old XUD, that thing sounds like it lived a hard life with little maintenance, but despite that it came back to life anyway, they're surprisingly hardy engines, far moreso than modern diesels are...

Yep, they always sounded like a bag of hammers in a cement mixer but with the turbo they were quick and 50+mpg out of a 1.6 litre XUDT 306 loaded to the gunnels.. And by loaded I mean 180kg of books plus driver.

The engine still exists, it's now called the EW/DW engine which is essencially a modernized XU/XUD (although its petrol counterpart, the EW, no longer exists since 2011).
@ElectronikHeart
@ElectronikHeart 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah XUD engines are very reliable, pretty snappy for a naturally aspirated diesel. And they always were quite noisy to a worrying level. (especially with the bosh mechanical pump) XU engine, the gasoline version, is also very reliable, and makes a sound a little like worn out lifters out of the box. Not refined but reliable and simple.

I think that this is C15 built in France, because of single rear door. Also it has pretty interesting "fix" in the front. Factory C15 had headlights with separate blinkers in the bumper, but this one has headlights from Visa that have blinker built-in, so the holes for blinkers in bumper are covered with some metal
