My cousin works on these cars and oftentimes the repairs he needs to do to the car is the first time ever done to the car beside consumables(oil, brake pads, other fluids). 30-40 years of everyday use and only this time those parts are finally breaking. He also doesn't need fancy diagnostic software, just common hand tools such as wrenches and sockets.

This is a good reason why I would want to buy a Mercedes of this era. My grandfather used to have the same one and it just WAS perfect. Not too simple, nor too complicated. Most work that it needed could be done by hand and with tools that we'd have lying around. I'm still shocked that after 8 years of abandonment it starts up like new.

That's the fastest start-up of a engine that I've ever seen when stood for years, amazing. Very good acceleration too for a 200d i think. Must be a very healthy engine and the smoke I'm almost certain is the valve stem seals. Love the wheels. Awesome video 😃👍

It is possible that the engine is smoking due to a long period of inactivity, as a result of which the oil scraper rings have become coked)

I live in Germany and just today saw an elderly couple drive off in a 200D...god, i miss the W124! You almost never see them today - only 20 years ago you saw them literally on every corner, almost like a Golf.

@@isthatbikedieselmate Same here, but sold instead of stolen. Unfortunately the 124 had some serious rust issues which made in uneconomical to maintain after 10+ years. A friend of mine recently bought a '92 300E in a nice colour combo that looks almost mint...but underneath rust was so bad that he restored it completely.

Because none of that SCR catalyst crap on board. Drove two 18 wheelers with that stuff and was nothing but a nightmare. Electronics issues constantly. Had them in the shop more times than can count. These engines without that stuff are much better especially with high quality diesel fuel.
