That’s a nice lip. I just built a gap jump in my buddy’s yard with the same 8’ radius and our ramp is 5’ tall. It’s super steep! We built up the frame of our landing with railroad ties and had dirt delivered in a bobcat. This is the first video I’ve seen on your channel. 🤘🏼
@AirdBMX4 жыл бұрын
That's awesome man and thanks! I am getting into the mountain biking world with my new dirt jumper and most likely in the next year or 2 a downhill/trail bike! Your jump sounds sick! Dirt landings are the way to go for sure, very little upkeep and a lot better if you fall on them lol.
@MTBTrailRider4 жыл бұрын
@@AirdBMX - Good stuff! I've been riding a trail bike for a couple years and using that for jumping but now looking to get a dirt jumper specifically for this kind of stuff. That's probably how I ended up on your channel from my searches. I liked how you built the center transition to fill the gap. I feel good on our ramp but when guys come over, they get intimidated and we had to make a super sketch attachment to help them build confidence. hahaha

Thanks glad you liked the video, but yeah with all of the leaves on the ground it worked better than a rake. For the legs i'm planning on putting in a more permanent solution when they start to rot.

Hey man loved the video! I was actually thinking of building a very similar lip in my next video! Do you have any tips or things you learned through building it that might help out?
@AirdBMX4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Glad you liked the video! If I were to go back and do it again I would have cemented the legs into the ground. I also wouldnt use the 1 by 4's they work decently well but you cant put 2 screw on each side of a plank without it splitting and I feel like I will he replacing them with 2x4s soon! Good luck on the build
@ryansantiago9414 жыл бұрын
Great Build!!! I will definitely be using the majority of your design for this weekends ramp build. *** For any others wanting to build a similar wood ramp. I’d recommend spacing the top planks 1 INCH apart instead of 1/2 INCH apart. Typically, spacing the top planks at 1 INCH apart, makes for better traction for bike tires. That added traction from the 1 INCH spacing will really come into play, as the ramp gets weathered, and from just being ridden. Again, thank you for sharing the great build

That is really smart to build a removable bridge because you can work your way up to jumping it by first rolling over it second jumping with bridge on and then jumping with bridge off
@AirdBMX4 жыл бұрын
That's exactly why we built it that way. I knew beginners who were going to be riding it and they wouldnt hit it with out, plus with how easy it is to take on and off I couldn't resist building it!

Originally I was going to, but the soil out there is only like an inch thick then it is solid clay that you need a pickaxe to get out so. It would take like a week of only digging to get the dirt for it unfortunately.
