Oh my god, this is a trip down the memory lane. Thanks for reacting to Highlight/Beast! Even when constantly battling with unfortunate hairstyles and questionable fashion, they still served in the good music department 😂 My personal favourite among their earlier stuff is Special. They performed the 2024 version on their Lights Go On Again tour. If you have time definitely check out the music show stages for their earlier years because Beast are better live imo Thanks again for checking them out. It's sure is nostalgic, brings me back to younger myself falling in love with grainy pixel yoseob in Shock mv 😅

So Gikwang actually made his solo debut before Beast under the stage name AJ and he was kind of advertised as being the next Rain He started out as a backup dancer Tbh lots of cube artists started out as backup dancers I think the debut age range for Beast was around 17 - 19 Gikwang was around 19 so the members were a bit older compared to other groups Whats crazy to me is how skinny idols are these days Didn't relize it at first Looking back at groups like Beast who were in their late teens everyone just looked so much healthier Recently been watching a lot of Nostalgic older 2nd gen early 3rd gen kpop vids and even the woman are skinny yet fit I guess since the trend at the moment is Y2K the skinny look fits with that era Tbh social media has also had a massive impact on this Also crazy how young idols look these days Was watching onf the other day and relized some of the members are in their 30s now yet they still have this really young energy about them and are still incredible dancers I must be getting older now lmao Still cant belive its been 15 years since Beast debuted

Hope you are having/had good travels! That "the song is not over" line is so iconic 😂 Shock is such a famous song, when they sing it at uni festivals the crowd is so hyped up singing along! It's also famous because at one performance at a festival in 2010 the TV station made a mistake so there was no backtrack on the broadcast, only their voices could be heard (OG MR removed lol) and they SANG that shit Dujun was the original national boyfriend so not much you can do falling for him tbh. But yeah the haircut in Bad Girl was not it. He said in their MMTG interview his hairstylist pushed that on him and he was sad he didn't have the power to refuse, poor guy. My first song by them was Say No, it really is such a good song (it's the b-side for Shock btw). But that's the thing with them you'll see as you go deeper/listen to their albums, they really released a ton of good songs particularly their instrumentals have always been top notch, it's so satisfying. At the time the song were still mostly produced by Shinsadong Tiger, JH started producing almost all of their songs around 2012/2013 (and by the way Gikwang wrote quite a few of their songs too when they were Beast!!) I think going through their MVs you haven't watched yet first is a good way and you can branch out to other content later, they don't actually have that many MVs even counting b-sides or pre-releases as they usually had one comeback per year (only years over their career they had more are 2010, 2014, 2017 and 2022)

From their 1st Ep to 2009 to 2012 5th Ep & 1st Studio Album were done by Shinsadong Tiger Jun Hyung only wrote his rap (Midnight Sun album : The Day You Rest & Dream Girl was Jun Hyung's co-produce & co-write with his long time friend). Starting with 2nd Studio Album Hard To Love How To Love was produced by Jun Hyung & his friend (later they're know by Good Life). So from 2013 till 2018 Jun Hyung has been producing most of their tracks besides Gikwang, Yoseop & Dongwoon.

Really enjoying your Highlight journey - I hope you continue! Shock was their first big hit and is basically on the life soundtrack of most Koreans under 30. They still perform this live, without the raps and with Dujun taking Jonghyun’s duet with Dongwoon on the bridge. When asked about how long he hopes Highlight will survive, Yoseob jokes that he hopes to still be performing Shock at age 80. And if you liked the over-the-top 2nd gen-ness of Shock, I think you will equally love Breath (Soom), which came out the same year - please check it out!
