I can’t choose a favorite, I have too many. Nobody’s Fault, Last Child, Back in the Saddle, Dream On, and Sweet Emotion are a few. I’ve seen Aerosmith twice. I saw them the first time in 1977 in Arkansas. They were so loud and so high on drugs I left the concert early because they sucked. When they came back to Arkansas in 1986 they had all gotten clean from drugs. I was right on the stage, I actually ran my hand from the tip of Steven Tyler‘s toes all the way up his leg as far as I could go which was about to his knee. Lol I was bad lol sure was fun though! It was one of the best concerts I’ve ever seen. They put on a heck of a show. I still talk about it today. Steven Tyler‘s voice was on point. Each guy in the band did his job and did it well. It was an amazing show sound quality, music , the mindset of the band, all of it was amazing. I would love to see them again. They Were so good the only way I knew that I was not listening to a studio recorded album, was because Steven Tyler would add Lib and switch up the songs a bit. That’s how I knew it was live! They were that good. They sounded like a studio recording. It was just about perfection.

@@jamestate5059 yes, but by comparison, it doesn’t rock and groove like the 70s stuff did. Best part about the 80s was the cleaned up and got healthy so they could keep going and still be with us today. They did an admirable job of adapting to the MTV era and updating their sound with the times, but I just happen to prefer the more raw and gritty sound of the 70s.

"Walk this Way" was an Aerosmith original hit in the 70's. Run DMC approached them in the mid eighties to to rerecord it and make a video. It worked out well for each. It became a hit for a second time and breathed new life into a stale Aerosmith and shortly after they recorded "Permanent Vacation" which was a huge hit. Followed by "Pump" in 1989, which became one of there biggest albums.

agreed....those that want to call Aerosmith a sell out after the 70's surely haven't been in a band that have spanned 5 decades and beyond. While yes, the 70's was their drug-soaked heyday, and I loved them, I was happy they came back and enjoyed their new "sober" stuff. One thing that can't be denied....they ENTERTAIN people and the people love them so screw the others.

Aerosmith's legendary, and this is one of rock's most iconic songs. Their influence on rock music cannot be overstated. This is a long rabbit hole to go down, and it's worth it. Em sampled this in "Sing For The Moment". I guess "sampled" isn't the right word seeing as how Joe Perry actually played on the song, but you get what I'm saying.

TNT, in 1966 there was a band called "Chain reaction" with a song called "When I needed you" Steven Tyler was 16 or 17 He sang this song And played drums!! In 1973, 1st Aerosmith album "Dream on" Tyler is 24 yrs old. I was in Jr. High school when I first heard this, has been my All time favorite band since. Tyler, Hamilton, Whitford, Kramer, and Perry.. This was the class song for my graduating class. When I was in the Army, we had a chopper pilot who would always blast "Back in the Saddle" over the intercom. "Dude Looks Like a Lady" is fun--but probably gets you canceled with extreme prejudice these days. "Love in an Elevator" is another fun one.

Back in the Saddle again. Sweet Emotion. So many songs that I love. We played 8 track tapes of Aerosmith with huge back window speakers, blaring it loud and got us in party mode in 1977!

Steven's father was a concert pianist, and he said he spent a lot of time as a child playing under his dad's baby grand piano while practicing/rehearsing, so he has an almost natural understanding of music composition; what works and what doesn't. Joe Perry has said that early on, Deep Purple's "Machine Head" album was his 'morning cup of coffee', so he has that influence of both melodic sounds AND crunching guitar work. Their first 4 albums were a 'natural' progression of improvement before the drugs started influencing their sound, as per bassist Tom Hamilton. Their second beginning came with their "Permanent Vacation" album when Joe Perry and Brad Whitford rejoined the band around 1985, although Joe said that album was "a waste of plastic and vinyl". The rest is history.

Great reaction. This is just one of the best songs, and as an aside, REALLY hard to sing. You titled this "Starting My Journey..." and that made me think of the band Journey. I didn't see any reactions to them on your video list, so they would be a great mid 70s - 80s band to review (they're still around, but the Steve Perry years are their best IMO). So many great songs. You can't go wrong with Don't Stop Believin' (which you probably know even if you don't realize it) or Faithfully, or Separate Ways.

It's been really cool going back and watching reactors react to songs from this era because for me they were just sort of part of my mental landscape growing up, they were the music my mom played and they were just there since I was an embryo, but I didn't really think about them or analyze them or consider them as anything but something I just took for granted. Hearing people show their appreciation for these songs from the 70s and 60s really kind of makes me listen to them with new ears and realize that I shouldn't take them for granted because they're f****** amazing. Now especially that I understand more about music and song construction and all of that, it really lets me and be impressed with stuff that I just kind of accepted as part of my mental landscape my whole life. This song was put out the year I graduated high school in 1973. I requested it on the radio in the 1980s and was told they couldn’t play it before 10 p.m. Steven Tyler is in my opinion one of the top three rock voices!

I saw Aerosmith 3 times in concert first one Lenny Kravitz opened up with a broken leg ,second fine Motlety Crew opened up for them, third time Joan Jett opened up for them this was in Mid 200s . Anyway each concert was awesome The video Walk This Way With Run D C was amazing back in the day.

@T: Aerosmith was one of the great rock bands of the 70's. After that they went down in a hail of 8-balls and Jack Daniels, before reinventing themselves as a huge pop act in the 80's and 90's. If you want to hear some of their vintage hard rock, Nobody's Fault would be a nice choice.

Never heard an Aerosmith "pop" song, unless you are talking about their version of Don't Want To Miss A Thing. Aerosmith was smart with their career. Some bands could be great if they'd evolve with the times. Most bands wait too long or never evolve. Those usually get left behind with folks remembering, "you remember that band. they were great for a couple years or that one album. whatever happened to them?" Aerosmith didn't reinvent, they evolved and lasted longer than most have. Most "great" bands are a blip on the radar compared to Aerosmith and their catalog of hits.

Saw them in outdoor concert next to the lake in Toronto. Walked along the shore when they started this song, amazing echoes on the water. Never forget it, although I don't remember the girl's name. Lot of smoke passing around that night.

Yes, Dream On is an everywhere song. Back in 2015 or 2016 Walmart ran an ad campaign regarding Walmart investing in American Manufacturing to Dream On in the background while showing American families & blue collar Americans working in factory & warehouses.

They recorded a song in 1986 with Run DMC called Walk This Way. It's great, you should check out the video, it's a ton of fun. But it was actually a cover of a song that they wrote and recorded in 1975. These guys wrote and recorded a full-fledged rap song in 1975. You should check it out first, actually.

One of the few bands that made it big twice w/ the same Aerosmith line up - Steven Tyler (lead vocals /keys /piano /harmonica), Joe Perry & Brad Whitford ( guitars), Tom Hamilton (bass) & Joey Kramer ( drums) They did have fill-in musicians and others join, including guitarists Jimmy Crespo & Rick Dufay... Aerosmith was formed in Boston in 1970... Steven Tyler had played drums in numerous bar bands since the 60's... he and guitarist Joe Perry were the nucleus of the band... first album in 1973 was not a success... but 3rd album 'Toys in the attic' was their first major hit album in 1975... by 1977, Aerosmith were huge in America and playing arenas & stadiums. But drugs, booze & women drama tore the band apart in 1979 as Joe Perry quit to start a solo career. Guitarist Jimmy Crespo joined as Aerosmith's popularity crashed by 1980... guitarist Brad Whitford quit in '81 and replaced on tour by Rick Dufay...Aerosmith's 1982 album 'Rock in a hard place' was a flop & the band was playing clubs by '83. Joe Perry Project was also a failure after 3 albums. Original Aerosmith reunited in 1984 and toured successfully... by album sales were still poor by '85. Band members were collectively put in rehab in '86 just as Run DMC's rap version of their '75 hit 'Walk this way' became a major single. A sober Aerosmith worked to update their sound w/ outside songwriters. In 1987, Aerosmith scored a massive hit album 'Permanent vacation'... the band peaked in popularity w/ the 'Pump' album in '89 and the #1 album 'Get a grip' in '93. Despite their career surging in sales & concert tickets, the drama in Aerosmith was still ongoing after 2 more hit records - Nine Lives in '97 and 'Just push play' in 2001 (which had the song 'Jaded') For the last 20 yrs, Aerosmith had toured successfully, but new music has been slow to emerge... both Tyler & Perry have solo albums out since... Aerosmith's last record 'Music from another dimension' in 2013 was a disappointment... the band could not agree on the direction for new music. Still, Aerosmith's catalog is a massive seller - their 1980 'Greatest hits' album has sold 11 million copies... their 1994 compilation album 'Big ones' sold over 4 million copies... their biggest studio albums are 'Toys in the attic' (1975), 'Rocks' (1976), 'Permanent vacation' (1987), 'Pump' (1989), 'Get a grip' (1993)... their 1st two albums sold well years after Aerosmith broke big - ''Get your wings' (1974), 'Aerosmith' (1973)

Oh yeah, brother! Aerosmith was a huge American hard rock band back in the day, and very few people can sing like Steven Tyler, but it is a very weird thing with them. They actually got together as early as the late sixties, but hit in the early seventies, and they were huge! They lived every cliche of sex, drugs, and rock n roll you can think of, which lead to them breaking up at the end of the 70's. They were apart for like 8 years during most of the 80's, and everyone thought that was it, but they made an amazing comeback in the late eighties, and probably one or two smaller ones since then. I'm a little biased because I got hard core into them when I was 12 (I'm 43), at the time "Janie's Got A Gun" was big all over the radio and Mtv, and since then in the 90's and 2000's more of the same popularized them in a little more mainstream slightly pop way that made them more known with younger audiences, but now when I see people like you experience them for the first time, it seems like people have forgotten that they had already been a legendary band well before all that, and I feel like as well known as they are, they don't really get credit for who they are, and what they've done as much as some of their peers. I kind of lost touch with their music myself in the late 90's, but they have some amazing stuff from both eras, before and after their break up. "Dream On" was from their first self titled album. A couple other personal favorites from that album are "Make It" and "Movin' Out". There's a live version of "Seasons of Whither" I love on their box set "Pandora's Box", which I think is a song from their second album. People have already mentioned the "Toys in the Attic" album. "Nobody's Fault" is one of their harder songs from the "Rocks" album shortly before the break up, that you'd probably dig. Their first album back from their break up was called "Done with Mirrors" and everything was written backwards on it, so it never got much attention because DJs couldn't read it, and didn't play it, but following that, the "Permanent Vacation" album, and the "Pump" album, which is where "Janie's Got a Gun" is from, are pretty killer. There's an instrumental from the "Permanent Vacation" album called "The Movie", check that out, but there's a lot you have to discover from them. They are, or maybe were, as LEGIT as it gets, though!

He can sing that as good today as he did when he recorded it. There is a cool performance of him & Carrie Underwood singing it & one of her songs together at some awards show. Very fun. My fav is 'I don't wanna miss a thing'. The video is clips of him singing which is awesome, interspersed with clips from the movie Armageddon. He did the song for the movie. His daughter Liv Tyler starred with Bruce Willis & Ben Affleck. Great love song. Cool movie too.

just starting the video and I wanted to mention one small thing. They are not a 90's rock band. They are a late 1900's band. They formed in 1970 and had a full career including a comeback tour when in 1986 they did a collab with Run DMC that blew them right back up. The song is a remake of Walk This Way and was one of the first rock/hip hop track amalgamations that consistently blow listeners minds.

This is actually off their debut self-titled album from 1973. This song is considered one of the greatest rock singles ever. I fell in love with this band in 1975 when I was 13. Their music changed a lot in the 80's, it became more pop rock, or as we called it "popcorn rock."

You both are a pleasure, and especially the love for the METAL!!! lol. ...coolness. ;) I just wanted to chime in regarding Aerosmith and the misconception that the song "Walk This Way" was ORIGINALLY a collab between Run DMC and them in the '80's. It was originally a huge hit, written by Aerosmith in the 1970s. Then in the 1980s, a producer had an idea that they should do a remix with Run DMC, and make a video showing the two worlds of hip hop and rock coming together. At first Aerosmith was reluctant, thinking it would tarnish their sound or style in their fans' view, but they took the chance, worked with Run DMC (music pioneers in their own right), and made the video, which in turn got a whole new group of fans for both bands at once. Smart stuff. And it was a funand original conceptual video at the time that left an indelible, positive mark on the history of rock AND hip hop. And for the getting together of (seemingly, but perhaps not so much) different cultures. ...Win/win. Anyway, you should check out the original version of Walk This Way, sometime. Even if just for yourself. I like hip hop, but the original is better IMO. Toys In The Attic is also my favorite record by them after all these years. Aerosmith started in the 70’s. Dream On came out on their debut album in 1973. They did make music in 70’s and the 80’s and the 90’s. Aerosmith had 2 lives, before the 80’s and after. Their first 5 albums are phenomenal, Aerosmith (Debut), Get Your Wings, Toys In The Attic, Rocks and Draw The Line are exceptional examples of classic rock. Somewhere in the late 70’s, early 80’s the band had some internal problems which ended with Joe Perry the lead guitarist, leaving the band for a few years. When Perry came back they’re sound changed slightly to a little more commercial, but they still retained their blues based rock in their sound.
