The day has come... We finally get to get started working on our debt free farm, revitalizing this 90 year old homestead! We have a LOT of work to do to get it cleared and cleaned up, but thanks to our friends and a trusty brush hog, we're getting started the right way.

That "unreal weird feeling" will take time to pass. We built our house in North Bend WA while living on site in an 8' x 16' camper trailer. We were a bit crowded with my wife and three children back then. After 18 months our 3000sf house was ready for us to move into. A week later I went back into the empty trailer for something and couldn't get over the feeling that IT was home. The 4 bedroom house still wasn't home but it came in time.

I have been searching and searching for the right area and the right property for me, and watching you persevere through all of your challenges it gives me hope that one day I will find just what I need at just the right time. Go to the most handsome stout tree on your place. Cut a deep notch in the bark at the height of each of your boys. Then they must bend over for a stout wack on their butt. This is called a "whipping tree". Settlers in Colonial times set up such trees as boundary markers. The boy was whipped, because this unjust punishment set in his mind just exactly where that tree was. I am sure you can make it for fun and pride in how much they have grown, and their connection with your place.

Your children have been so silent on your many journeys, I hope, now that you have a homestead, we can see them blossom? They have been absolutely terrific! Apologies, if your intent is to protect, I can understand that. However, if you allow it, we can grow with them and get their faces on a T to start your support. Love, love, love your channel from an Irish hillside. 🇨🇮🍀

I have been working hard for a few months now designing and building a garden from scratch. Start to finish. Like I said " working hard", it's been a lot of hard work and now am just finishing up the "Back to Eden" small garden plot and finally transplanted my Asparagus plants today. Tomorrow I will transplant the onions and sow Kale, lettuce, swiss chard seeds. The other part of the garden I have 3 raised beds, one has broccoli and cucumbers in it, the other one has zucchini, and the last one is my grandson's watermelon bed that he planted. I guess what I am getting at with all I've said is that-Yes, it is a lot of hard work starting from scratch and also in your case renovating the buildings on your property- but at the same time doesn't it just feels so good! I know that I am happier when I am outside doing yardwork/gardening etc... to create- turning something not so pretty into something so beautiful!! And that's exactly what you all are doing- you are taking something that's disarrayed and not so pretty and are working hard, giving it your all to create something that has order and is beautiful!! Thank you for taking us along from start to finish and everything In between. I look forward in seeing the progression of it! So Fun, I love it!! God Bless you all Hugs:)

YEA!!!! Home at last!!!! 🎶🕺💃 My son drove the truck for Habitat. He made pickups and free deliveries. Our store gets a tractor-trailer of donations twice a year from Lowes too. All new stuff. One is all hardware and building supplies and the second one is all things Christmas. I have gotten some great finds there, a smaller upright Fridigare freezer for $100, a sweet dark blue leather wingback recliner $40 and a light blue leather sofa $20. Furniture, dishes, appliances, anything gently used. Just keep checking all the time. In our county, they build a new house for someone on the list, they help build it and help out the next years build and their mortgage is very low. It is a great thing, everyone should help support their local Habitat for Humanity with donations and purchases.

You have one very witty son there. Loved his "kitchen sink" joke. Awesome find on those sinks. BTW I have to wonder if part of the unreal feeling of being home has a lot to do with the fact that you have put in so many hours over the past year doing your best work for other people's homes.

Great to see people homesteading again my dad had us doing that in the 60s in California believe it or not you would pay $90 a month to rent a house back then but you had to rebuild and restore most of the places we went to Live they looked worse than your homestead. You can do it good luck also I noticed you had 4 boys there was four of us boys also about their age when we started doing all that helping my dad he had his own little construction crew looks like you guys got it to

I have that same Kohler sink . I can'r believe what you got it for!! Hjnt for getting those stains out without scratching the porcelain surface . I get a liquid dishwasher detergent, (Cascade or Finish are the best) Smear it all over the sink , and walk away for a couple of hours. Then rub with a no scratch sponge and rinse, your stains will be gone! Good luck with your new life! God Bless!!

Sweet boy it has been so hot. I can remember when i was 3 years old standing handing tobacco leaves to my Aunt who would string the leaves onto a stick that the guys would hang in the barn and with the help of gas burners would dry them out ... i don't remember getting hot till I was about your age little man. Bless your heart!!! Just remember this is your new home and i promise it will be worth the hard hot work. Your family will prosper and you will learn that it takes a family to have what you all have and will have.

Congratulations!! What an exciting time! We bought our 10 acre pasture two years ago. While building the house, we walked past the bargain pile in a building center (in a city of about 30,000 people). Two weekends in a row, we passed a plain brown box marked $100. The second weekend it was still there, my husband HAD to look. It turned out to be a $1000 kitchen sink someone had special ordered then changed their mind about. We decided that it was meant to be ours and took it home. Our house build went that way all along. I'm sure your build will be a wonderful thrill too. Enjoy the process!!!
