This is my very first look at Cities Skylines 2!
Let's have a look at the game, how it works, and what has changed. We are also going to build out a new town called Lake Hayes as organically as we can. We will explore why cities may begin in the first place in an effort to help shape a realistic city.

I thought arterial but then I thought of Military Road, which is a pretty common name in Australia, where I am. In fact one of the main thoroughfares on the North Shore of Sydney is Military Road.

This got me excited! It's been a while since I played, but I often tried starting out with a typical European type city centre and try to grow it organically, but always ended up making grids and filling them in, because my city would always end up fIling otherwise lol.

Hey Cities! Excited for the game, looks like a great step up, but a couple of things: cemeteries should function like farms or landfill where there is a main building - perhaps a small and large option - and you draw the shape based on the size of your town/ need/ topography. Perhaps paths could be drawn freehand by the player and the crematorium and mausoleum would attach as it currently does to the shape created. Also, zone-able cul de sacs and corners! Perhaps achieved by providing some flexibility in terms of which road the zoning grid interacts with. Particularly handy with row housing to ensure it faces the right street. I realise the difficulty with this with corners that aren't 90 degrees, and the need for specific corner assets, but cul de sacs would be a great start :D

Cannot wait, hopefully I will get a chance to play it as I start a new job as a director in supply chain in mid Oct, so just skylines 1 for now! Love the vid, and great job, it shows the love and passion of delivering this title!!!

Hopefully smaller versions of buildings like high school, cemetary etc will be released at least as mods to make smaller cities more realistic. Or maybe a function to send students to neighboring cities, which is very common in country side towns

Yes!! Organic growth instead of gamey is my way. I want a reason to build there in the first place (natural resource maybe), and growing slowly as real life residents, businesses and industry would do.

My advice for a realistic city is to place commercial along streets, rather than filling up a whole block. (Which youve kinda done in the starting area). A commercial area won't benefit from having shops on a street having their back to the shops on the next street. But they will benefit if the shops face each other, and people can easily cross the road to see what's on the other side. It's also more natural to how commercial areas look in reality.

Yes, almost all settlements in europe (that were not roman) were built around a church and a central market place. And it looked like you described it.

Just finished your video buddy! Great work as always. Can’t wait to see how the town develops. You’ve got me thinking about what you mentioned about the landfill and farm functionality being modded for different assets. That’s a really intriguing concept I hadn’t considered

You can make roads go through one another and they connect by themselves (I know there's probably another 10 people who already told you that)

building under the bridge/bypass is quite realistic especially in dense cities. Can CS2 make the corner building that wraps the block nicely? Maybe European zoning can do it? I see rowhouses' end facade is a bit too stark and barren, which do exist in many NA cities, but it would be nice to have corner buildings in vanila

3:00 all you can see the empty site with crane, then it disappear and building being plopped instantly. Yep, that's it. You need way more resources to allow all custom building models+anims.

A minor complaint. Where the cars on the road turn into the building parking lots, the pedestrian sidewalk needs to be sloped. I am referring to the motorcycle moving from the store to the road at the start of the video.

Hello DirtyH, was the footage in the beginning (from 0:17 to 3:20) from an earlier build? There's all sorts of graphical glitches, untextured bushes and cars and houses, and the date says Jan 2023 instead of June 2023, which is a date everyone else starts with (even you after those 3.5 minutes).

I loaded the game without all the vitual texturing completed the first time, haven't had that problem since. Sharp eyes mate!

i missed the sound, did you use the powerlines just for looks ? and not use the roadgrid for power?

If you're going for organic cities, using power lines instead of the in road power makes sense given most rural towns and viliges only have overhead power lines from my experience

You'll definitely need a beefy PC to run CS2 smoothly. That said, the loading times are insanely quick

that blue thing already started to annoy me, and that's not even my gameplay. It means obligatory cage symbol Tweak the chirper with mods or obligatory cage symbol remove it by a mod.
