After gaming for 35 years,I recently switched to using paper minis for enemies and npcs. Some benefits include: its faster and cheaper, it saves a lot of space, and you have all of Google Images to find cool character images. As someone who travels to run games, having all my minins in an envelope is a welcomed space saver.

That's a smart idea, and I respect that. But for me D&D is just an excuse for me to paint minis and craft terrain. Coming up with scenarios based on what I have, or getting inspired to craft things based off of the encounter is a self propelled muse.

I have the old Commoner/Man-With-Pig as well. I think he gets used in every single game I run.

As someone who’s been collecting minis for 30+ years and has printed about a thousand beautiful 3d resin minis, going forward it’s Wizkids all the way. I ignored Wizkids for 20 years since I thought they looked like crap but the last few years has changed my mind. The problem with 3d printing and all these cheap but beautiful kickstarter minis is that they are unpainted. I have a backlog of about 2000+ unpainted minis. The time saved with prepainted is just invaluable once you have a family and other responsibilities.

I got a bunch of Wildspire miniatures. Some of them hopefully from your affiliate link. The troll king and queen are fun and the book dragon is absolutely massive. All of those animated objects are really fun.

Thanks. I have 3 videos shot but I got really sick this month. This is the first time in my life that it's taken over 2 weeks to recover from anything.

the blindboxes are the reason i buy unpainted wizkids. My tower of ambition pile of unpainted minis is something to behold Vince Venturella has a series of tutorials called hobby cheating covering every kind of subject imaginable. textures colours smoke glow etc Craft paint have bigger pigments then miniature paint. craft paint is fine for terrain but you really get better results with miniature paints and there are lots of other brands then GW/citadel. Valejo is one that is very popular, i like privateer press p3 brand. if you watch some miniature painters on twitch and ask them what brands of paint they use youll get loads more.

When looking for painted miniatures have you considered things like Skinny Mini. Sure not true miniatures but they are great starters with some impressive detail

For stuff like them, you can make basic ones using a normal printer. I think they are generally called standees.

I have also found the Hasbro DnD board games to be a wellspring of good cheap minis. The games are also a good springboard into role playing games in general and they can be solo'd too in case you are lacking an RPG group and need a fix. I believe WizKids has continued these games with other settings in the Forgotten Realms universe with Tomb of Annihilation and the Mad Mage. The minis are more detailed, but for some reason the scale is slightly smaller. Another great boardgame resource are the Rune Wars wargaming base sets although they have gone up in price, I was able to get the base game for 30 bucks and it came with over 20 very nice miniatures. The game is an easy out of the box skirmisher too, if you don't want to pay the exorbitant prices for GW stuff.

I'm sorry, I meant to say that the Rune Wars base set comes with two factions and each faction has about 20 minis. So each mini is less than a dollar.

I have many of those board games. It's a great bunch of minis. And I even use the maps puzzles. They used to be $20-$25 on Amazon. Also Magic the gathering The Arena games were great.

Ithink the Disney pig villanse you mentioned were from Wrath of Kings. I actually enjoy their style and may be able to help you get rid of them if you want to.

Pewter is also toxic AF, which is why no one is really working with it. You forgot to mention Paper miniatures. All it costs is some printer ink and cardstock, plus the time to cut them out.
@Blandco Жыл бұрын
It's a matter of what issues you want to deal with. Modern Pewter has no lead in it but you still have to take basic precautions.. It's expensive nowadays which is why a lot of companies don't start new lines with it. High impact polystyrene, PVC, resin and even thermoplastic materials all have issues you gotta account for. It's mostly about cost at the end of the day.

Great content. One thing I’d disagree with you on is that 3D is far more common now. If I were just getting into the hobby and I wasn’t as old as I am now. I’d invest in a 3d printer. Now if you’re completely against painting, I’d go with buying singles from a game store or online.

I swear that since 1995, damn near every sculpt officially sold as a D&D item is just awful.

No, you don't; you do not have to paint any of them. I'm not too fond of that attitude in Warhammer. I don't like to paint, and the fumes make me sick.
@Blandco23 күн бұрын
I guess my point is more that anyone can give a decent paint job with minimal effort rather than pay a higher price for pre painted minis.
