Good video! I'm not surprised at all of the newer VDL bus firing up just like that, they are very good at starting in the cold. Webasto is not needed to start at -22C, but is easier on the battery. As for the older model (Euro 5 I'm guessing), these should be able to start at -22C but need a longer starting time at those temperatures, more like 5-10 seconds.
@BusRoutine3 жыл бұрын
Hello. But I think it's way better for an engine to heat it up a little before start up at -22. :) I also think that VDL would be able to start without a webasto.

Easier for the oil pump too
@CreRay2 ай бұрын
@@BusRoutine The reason why I said this is that the newer model with Euro 6 engine is much better at starting from these cold temperatures than the older one. It is not tuned as careful as the newer one for cold start and therefore needs longer to start when it gets really cold.

I don't work for any bus operators but I notice every time I ride the school buses for worksites (Saf-T-Liner C2), each engine (all are the same Cummins ISB 6.7 I6) sounds very different because they're clearly in various states of deterioration and age. One of the most unhealthy of which (No. 278) smokes like a classic diesel which is likely an emission control or turbo issue. It's a shame those things are rarely ever looked after and they live in a very similar climate to these buses.

And much more; for the survival of the company we need to pay for an office, parking place rentals, insurance and so on.. Our Leasing bank let us “pause” almost all the leasings for a year (it expires in 2021 04). After that, we will see what to do. Maybe some trips will recover.

I'm a bus driver and proud owner of Setra. I like you video, well done. Let me say my personal opinion. VDL/Bova is very low quality bus. OK for regular lines as low consumption, low weight and cheap. But for tourism VDL/Bova is definitely not the ideal bus. 1) Seat are uncomfortable 2) Air condition cause problems to passengers 3) Driver feeling is weak. 4) High vibration/noise level from engine in the back side. If you drive once a Setra Serie 500 HDH you will never again drive a VDL, I guarantee. It's completely another feeling and passenger another level of comfort.

@@BusRoutine I disagree. A 2003 Setra 400 is MUCH, MUCH superior then a brand new VDL Futura 2022. For passengers as for driver is a massiv difference. Yes, VDL is cheap, light and economical. Exactly what is requested to operate a regular line. Who use VDL for tourisme purpose, it's only because he is looking he's own portemonnaie, in a low cost segment. This company don't care about comfort for passengers and confort for driver, don't care about safety either. Important is to have a most profitabel bus per Km on their Exel tabel. Nice video bro 👍 , but what is this mess and heater in the buses ? What do they do ?
@BusRoutine3 жыл бұрын
I pronounced bad. It’s a mass. You turn off mass lever when tou leave a bus for longer time. It helps to protect battery life

Autonomic heater (somebody calls it webasto) is for preheat bus engine (coolant) before starting it. It makes much easier start

@@BusRoutineis also called a power isolator switch. Had class 8 trucks that had these switches so we could shut off the main power so the batteries wouldn't get low during the cold weather. 😊
