Hello Friends! 🥰 We are so excited to share with you our first film in our Winter van life series. 🚐 ❄ As we mentioned, we have experienced the cold in Scotland & Switzerland but this is the first time that Jits is truly embracing the winter. Please let us know if the comments if you’ve enjoyed this film. Did you think the snowy hike up to the tower was worth freezing our feet & hands off? Have you been to the Czech Republic before and would you now consider visiting? Lastly, who do you think we’re meeting up with, in Austria? If you’d like real-time updates then be sure to follow us on Instagram & Facebook. instagram.com/jits.into.the.sunset Sending you lots of love, and wishing you a happy & healthy New Year! 💛 xx Tania & Adam

I’ve no idea about campervans but in a house you’d turn the water off, open all the taps and drain the system so that there’s no water left in the pipes. You’d also leave all the taps open. Hope that helps

John, from Ontario, Canada here again. What can I say? I just lost myself in your wonderful trip and with all that snow, I felt quite a home. It was -21 degrees celsius last night so winter has really begun. At age 95, I can no longer be out in such weather but my late wife was Canadian (I'm a Brit although a proud Canadian now) and we used to love to use snowshoes to walk in the deep snow you showed us. Our dog used to wisely follow in the compacted snow tracks we made. A moonlit snowshoe walk is an experience you'll never forget. Of course, you can't find space for everything! Thanks for this., and I hope to see you next time. John, Ontario, Canada

Canada here: leave a few small, safe candles burning. You just need to keep the temp over 0. This only works if the pipes are all interior (not running outside of the body of the van.)

Full-time RVers for 5 years. You need to leave the water on a slow drip when you are in freezing temps. Also, never have your holding tanks more than 3 quarters full, water needs room to expand if it freezes. It is much easier to change a cracked waterline than a cracked water tank. Mike and Peggy from Arizona. Cruzin the Cut sent us. God bless and stay safe

Wrap water lines in a heating wrap. Or just drain the water line(s) before you expect a freeze, but again use energy so the fresh water doesn't freeze. There are 12v DC water heaters, to keep a tank at 5-15C(40-60F) to avoid that issue.

wrapping the pipes with the foam 'pool noodles' gives you a bit of safety, otherwise a little heater coil and circulation pump on a thermostat to keep water above zero and moving. We had the gas pipes freeze to jelly when we were in Dumfries, Scotland - that wasn't much fun either. The viewing towers in Czech are definitely worth it, did one in Beroun and it was a great view - winter would be amazing if the weather played along (great little walled city, Black Dog is the best burgers anywhere, and their _kids_ playground has a brown bear enclosure). Gorgeous videography, well done!

I think the only way to stop the pipes freezing is to empty the whole system and just use bottles until the temperature rises. Anything that suggests using electricity to heat the tank or pipes will flatten the battery very quickly. Anyway, great vid as always. Also, the thing the glass blower was making was highly suspicious looking.

Hi, great vid 👍🙏 With regards to the frozen pipes, I appreciate it would be tricky leaving heating on all the time so not sure how you go about stoping the freezing. However, you could research a using a Floe device. We have one in our static caravan and it is used in winter to pump all water out of the system when you leave the van for periods. You then don’t have to worry about freezing temperatures. I believe they have a portable version too for tourers and campers. It would take you less than 5 mins to clear your water system before you leave the van for long periods. Really easy to use and install, good luck with the rest of your travels 👍

Keep the temperature above freezing, which does require the heater to be running. Prevents freezing your water pipes and damage. Also if your waste water tank is underneath add some antifreeze in it or it will freeze as well. Also lithium batteries wont charge below 0c, most are commonly set to 5c. Batteries are a huge mass to warmup so it will take hours before they allow charge. A 2 hour drive is not enough so youre eventually end with empty batteries. Keeping the van above freeze will charge when driving, also on a shorter trip

Enjoyed it, a lot. Waiting for the next part. BTW, I have adhesive heating pads that stick on the liquid tanks and on the elbows of pipes that keep the system frost free. They are connected to a thermostat and work on 12V. They get activated once the water temperature is below your set temperature. They key is to heat the tanks from the lowest point possible (meaning stick it to the bottom of the tank) and heat a couple of elbows on the main line. Rest (probably) won't freeze once these are heated. I'll send you guys a link on Instagram once I remember the brand I'm using :)

Hey ya! Watching you both deal with frozen pipes makes me want to give you a hug (and a hand to help thaw out)! We're waiting out a blizzard in Oregon. I know people that winter in rigs that purchase special heating equipment (heated hose, warming heaters for pipes, etc.) and they wrap pipes with insulation. Our rig isn't even close to to being insulated. So we lug water in jugs to the rig and use water that way. Everything in this video was just so enchanting! From the Astrological clock (which Ruby and I are now going to look up and study) to your poetic glass blowing! Be safe and warm ❤
