I liked enterprise's portrayal of the Vulcans. Let's be honest, they'd be a pain in the ass in reality. They mean well but their worship of logic makes them extremely arrogant. Archers prejudice is always backed up. The Vulcans did hold humanity back. Whether or not their intentions were noble, I think enterprise shows quite clear they fear humanity like they did the andorians. Both humans and andorians are not shy with their emotions and trust their instincts as much as logic which confounded the Vulcans...including T'pol until she learned to respect what made humans special. I liked this portrayal of imperfect Vulcans learning to cope with species that might share their values in some ways, but also prioritize other values. You can see a glimmer of that here when T'pol says archer has free will. Free will isn't something Vulcans have. Their culture is to dictated by logic for free will.
@aarondrake69
@aarondrake69 Жыл бұрын
Also archer is stubborn here because all he's heard is humanity isn't ready. So if he relinquishes, to him, he's proving the Vulcans right. And right now, not just archer, but all humanity wants to prove itself. He still humbles himself to a Vulcan in T'pol. And he at first stood up for the Vulcans on pajem until the andorians were proven right. And Let's not forget the federation waa primarily archers doing.

It's interesting that despite those who hate on Archer he was reasonable,and willing to listen to T'pol's advise. I also believe that he realizes the wisdom in what she said,by not letting those who wanted to see humanity fail be proven right. It's why they both developed a deep trust,and a mutual friendship that was very much in the vein of Kirk and Spock. She even proved to him that despite those of her race that had some prejudices against humanity's ability to explore the galaxy responsibly,that she would have Enterprises mission be successful in what ever way she could be of help. It's why Archer trusted her even more than some of his own friends at time(Trip included). Was wonderful to watch them both develope over time. Too bad the writers focused on trying to sexualize T'pol so much,and put her in a relationship that really made no sense. Her actress deserved much better considering the respect she had for the role.
@wight1984
@wight1984 Жыл бұрын
It works from a story-telling perspective, which is maybe all that counts... but I would have expected a captain of a starship to be able to sacrifice some pride to save a member of their crew without having to be talked into it... it's the obvious thing to have done in that situation. It's a big flaw with how the character of Archer is written that he has to continually learn lessons that should be obvious to someone of his rank. I agree that the character of Tpol was overly sexualised though, and it's a deep shame because she was the best character in the show (IMO). Enterprise spent way too much time trying to be edgy through weirdly sexualised scenes (and not just of Tpol). I think they were trying to differentiate themselves from what came before, but it just comes across as a bit juvenile.

If you watch Star Trek enough you will come to realize that that human Recklessness as the Vulcans call it actually made HUMANS develop faster than the Vulcans. Humans surpassed the Vulcans in Technology in a few hundred years
@wight1984

@@eduardomaldonado1647 Seems lie a poor excuse for bad, prideful, and emotionally immature command decisions. If defined /very/ broadly, then a little bit of 'recklessness' is okay, but that's not a catch-all justification for all reckless/stupid behaviour. Also, the way that various writers may or may not have presented humanity across the many versions of the franchise doesn't really tell us how we should feel about any one depiction, which is ultimately going to based on a human reaction (i.e. in real life, we would hope and expect more from someone in a command position like Archer).

@@wight1984 It's been a while since I watched ENT, but Archer was probably the first Starfleet Captain to go on a 5-year. This means he visits planets and species radically different from Humans or Vulcans, so he doesn't have the welcoming of different cultures mindset as other captains we see. Plus, the Vulcans did not share their technology with humans despite being allies, and their general arrogance or supposed arrogance really jaded Archer's views on aliens.

I'm not so sure her look was so cold towards him anymore. While T'Pol later decided to go along with marrying Koss, it was only to help her mother regain her job. She might have told Tril she had to do it for tradition, she didn't know her mother was going to join the Syrannites and lose her life. Koss divorced her because he knew she only married him for her mother's sake, but onve she was dead, saw no more reason to put up with T'Pol's fickleness, releasing her to choose Trip. He too was fed up with her and pushed her out, which is why she told Koss "you don't have to do this." He just said "I'm sorry" and left. Love the way she rolls her eyes.

And a body large enough to sport a crevisse big enough to have a vehicle of the size (and weight) of a pickup truck sliding into it's depths (at least about 27 meters (that's about 88 feet)) should have a notable gravitaition. Not as First Officer. How many times did Ricker do this on Next Generation? Every episode.

Interesting how T'Pol states that pride is not a suitable emotion here, but in the last episode of the 4th season, she tells him that pride is necessary at times. Seems our Vulcan First Officer is learning more about her human friends after all. Too bad, we didn't get to see more of her future due to the series being canceled and Trip supposedly killed off at the end. Why didn't Archer, Dr. Phlox, and Malcolm at least tell her what happened before the next speech when Archer gave her the note Trip gave him to give her? Didn't they trust her not to tell others?
