Thankfully, the film was still enjoyable, but Rogue One had quite a few trailers that had scenes that weren’t in the final cut. So even if there’s a trailer for this, it doesn’t mean that minds won’t be changed (or forced to change) for the theatre.

Honestly that's for the best, tying it to the skywalker saga just comes with so much baggage at this point that's it's better to just do something completely new. Infact personally I've been thinking they should just straight up remake it all from scratch because of that it would get rid of the original triliogy purists who will bash anything that's not those three movies and hell even Return of the Jedi was'nt safe from them.

Kimberg is about as 60/40 of a filmmaker when it comes to writing, producing and directing as it gets. The guy has worked on some genuinely awesome stuff and then he’s also worked on some very middling stuff to almost bad. That Rebels credit gives me some hope and if he’s the one writing all three that’s also smart. I just hope that this is not the same thing we’ve been going through for years now where something gets announced and nothing happens.

That's the thing - he may have a spotty record, but it's amazing what one person can do in the right environment with the right people. Sure, his X-Men movies sucked, but then again MOST X-Men movies sucked. He did work on Rebels though, and that was amazing so who know. I don't know if he'd be my pick, but I won't pre-judge it either, assuming it comes out at all.

I think there are 2 possibilities. 1 is that he’s stepping in as the on sight writer for Reys NJO and is now being referred to as a trilogy, or this is an animated trilogy due to his work on Rebels. I think there is definitely some miscommunication going on with this

Since reports have been updated to clarify it’s not Episodes X-XII, I really hope (if the films actually get made, which, y’know) it’s an Old Republic trilogy. Adapt some of the more popular aspects of the existing Legends Old Republic stuff, but largely make it a new story. This would follow the Mangold film pretty well. If these films are set after IX (and presumably the Rey movie), all I ask is that you please, please keep the Sith defeated.

I hope they go with a new story to tell. It could be told during the periods we know but with different characters, maybe on the other side of a conflict. I would love to see the galaxy itself expanded on with more worlds, factions, heroes and the like. There is so much potential for a new story no matter what time its set.

I hope that the next star wars trilogy is outside the Skywalker Saga. I also want to see a star wars trilogy outside the Jedi/ Sith conflict and a focus of other parts of the star wars universe e.g. bounty hunters, the criminal underworld, non force sensitive rebel/ resistance fighters.

Im with it being Star Wars episodes 10-12 just not Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga 10-12. Let's treat it like Marvel. Same overall storyline moving forward but as the start of a new saga. Personally I want to see something that really gets into droids and the fact that they've been second class citizens (of they're citizens at all) for like 10s of thousands of years. We've had enough hints throughout the timeline that not all of them are comfortable with their lot in life that I think it could be the kind of thing that could lead to a really interesting major conflict that would feel very different from the Separatists, Empire or First Order.

Kinberg gets movies made and he’s worked with Lucasfilm before so he has a better chance than most at getting a Star Wars movie in theaters, but that doesn’t mean Kennedy won’t overcomplicate the process and cause him to walk away.

We should keep this in mind, Dark Phoenix also went through a VERY tumultuous development period that was occurring while Fox was gearing up to be bought by Disney. That movie is still terrible but it wasn't entirely Kinberg's fault.

Years ago, long before The Force Awakens came out, there was a fan-made trailer for Ep. VII set thousands of years after IV, V, and VI. I found it very exciting. Wish it was still on KZbin.

For that kind of time frame and what things cost 2026-7 seems ambitious. Don't forget Iger at Disney is a short timer now. KK is no spring chicken and she is down stream from Iger's replacement. The money flows downhill. Those people may not want to greenlight anything until the Iger situation is taken care of. Have no doubt, Lucas Films does not act on their own.

It sounds like this guy will be involved in the story of all three which is smart. I love the sequel triliogy and will always defend it however the one thing I can agree on is that there really was no concrete plan or more accurately an outline of how the triliogy would go. Rise of Skywalker I loved but it also did feel very check boxy to try to appease the "hardcore" crowd that can never be happy about anything Star wars aside from New Hope and Empire. Anyways point is this will be one guy's vision throughout the whole thing, which is going to make it all feel cohesive. Now granted things still need to go smoothly but I'd hope that by calling this episode 10-12 they know how important that is and will have gotten on the same page with each other before announcing this.

I'm most looking forward to Dawn of The Jedi, too. It's so mind-bogglingly far back in time. I can see design cues from the Original Trilogy go back to the Prequels, and to older, clunky (intentionally) in the Old Republic PC game. I can't imagine what the ships and droids will look like 25,000 years earlier. That being said, I'll watch Simon Kinberg's trilogy if they let him make it.

I know it's very unlikely that Mangold's film will take any inspiration from them, but if you want to have an idea of how technology in Star Wars looked 25,000 years before the Skywalker Saga, I highly recommend you read the Dawn of the Jedi series of comics. Or at least look at its art.

To be fair, it’s not an announcement. If he’s brought up on stage @ Celebration, that’ll be an announcement. This is a leak. Could very well be a “leak” via official channels but might not. It would be more fair to say that SW project news means nothing anymore until we see a trailer. The Rey movie development is indication that actual casting announcements mean little. Even though that project will almost certainly happen one way or another eventually.

I really don't know what to think at this point. There have been far too many false starts, and I'm not at all sold on the Rey movie or Dawn of the Jedi. The writer having worked on some great Rebels episodes is a good sign but Fant4stic and Dark Phoenix are huge red flags. I'm not sure Disney is betting on a definite winner there. I don't really know what I want to see at this point that Disney can properly exrcute on. Acolyte had an interesting sounding premise before it released, but I ultimately found it very boring and contrived. If there was going to be anything I could have confidence in I think it would be a new story, perhaps set in the galaxy's past, High or Old Republic era and probably an animated series. Some of Star Wars' most enjoyable experiments have been animated now, TCW, Rebels, Bad Batch, Visions. I'd love to see something with the production quality of Arcane. There are at least a few big wars that are in canon but we know little about in the modern canon now. The Sith Jedi Wars, Jedi Mandalorian Wars, or the Mandalorian civil wars could all be interesting events to explore. Still, I don't think I can get excited anymore. I will probably just waver between apathy, worry and cautious optimism until I actually see something.
