The execution of the story was clunky. Some of the episodes were to short as well. Trauma bonding is not love just a lot passion fighting itself. True love is kinda boring but maybe that is the twilight vibe you mentioned.

Come to the dark side, we have warm, comforting stew. I want to see a second season, and I want the romance to lean into that feeling. I believe that the climax of conflict will be in the decision to kill, or to not kill, Mae. From there, we could go forward with Mae alive, but unable to command Osha’s full attention, dealing with envy, loneliness, guilt, loss and possibly regaining of memories… and then there’s the Jedi and Darth Plaguis. Lots of material there.

Okay, I just have to say that the video meme of Vader quoting the Brendok Witches had me laughing so hard that it hurt! Strangely, that could apply to the Sith before Darth Bane initiated the Rule of Two. Could the Witches of Brendok have been descended from other Sith? Just a wild thought.

Totally agree with Manny on the kiss, the hand hold fit the episode better. Considering it's implied Osha returned Jecki's feelings I feel it would've been odd had Osha just fallen into her killer's arms (no matter how buff those arms are lol). I'm not sure where I stand on Oshamir TBH. Seduction of the dark side of the force shouldn't be portrayed as a relationship. This is one of my biggest problems with the Alcolyte. Being seduced doesn't have to be sexual at all and is really tone deaf to the meaning of being seduced by the dark side.

The writers and directors need to respect the source material. They need to build on it and not discard what made the Star Wars story what it is. The Accolyte and the sequel trilogy are the best examples of Disney poorly planning what they were creating. They have demonstrated no depth of knowledge or respect. Maybe it is their intention to upset the fans and create controversy which causes debate and maintains interest.

Nostalgy is a huge part of Star Wars fandom, that's why people prefer something like bobba, kenobi or ashoka, that are full of incoherence, bad plots, etc, but have some cameos or special scene that puts them above and different series like acolyte, that of course had a lot of issues, like format, not focused on the heroes, length of the episodes, etc, but tried to be apart of things behind, had a lot of nit picking trying to find faults, I find a lot more in the others i say without efforts, i know that not all have to be Andor or the first 2 seasons of mando but there are good and bad things coming from the same place, we shouldn't block something first based on prejudice or after watching because it's not what is the regular star wars or even as a punishment hate to the company, if we had blocked after the secuels, we wouldn't have had the chance to enjoy things like Andor or Mando, masterpieces no doubt, sorry you didn't like the Acolye, at least you gave it the chance and you exposed your point of views with no hate,.... keep rocking and stay safe!!!!

I agree Meg. It ended on a sort of curdled-milk feeling of sour unhopefulness. There was lots to be interested in and the acting was good. Ending with Osha killing and all the down notes wasn't like Empire because there weren't really any redemptive themes and everybody seemed compromised. It just needed a bit more work before they filmed it.

Episode 7 titled, Choice, is what broke The Acolyte’s season the same way The Bells broke Game of Thrones once Daenerys went mad. Or you can argue when Arya killed the Night King or when Season 7 came out. Choice was supposed to be the big reveal and it left more people confused. How could the other side of a flashback episode from a flashback episode make things more confusing and that’s what Ep. 7 did. It was so bad, Grace Randolph hated it and she’s known to praise bad content and trash good ones. Sean Chandler did a ranking of every Star Wars series on Disney+ with The Mandalorian seasons being separated. His ranking is pretty close to mines. Sean Chandler’s SW on Disney+ Rankings 1. Andor Season 1 2. The Mandalorian Season 1 3. The Mandalorian Season 2 4. Ahsoka Season 1 5. Obi-Wan Kenobi 6. The Mandalorian Season 3 7. The Acolyte 8. The Book of Boba Fett Mines would be the same exact top 4, then maybe Mando S3 at 5th, Kenobi at 6th, Fett at 7th, and Acolyte at 8th. I can flip flop Mando S1 and S2. The S2 finale was incredible but I probably have rewatched S1 more. I didn’t hate Mando S3 that much to put it below Kenobi. General consensus is take the first two seasons of Mando and Andor S1, and throw the rest in the trash. The last 5 days, I’ve been pretty busy. Saw Twisters and Fly Me to the Moon last Thursday. Saw The Boys S4 finale right before Twisters played. Already seen Fly Me to the Moon four times. Such a cute movie. ScarJo has so much charisma. Then I saw the first episode of Cobra Kai S6 that same Thursday night and then I binged watched the rest of the four from 12 AM - 2 AM the other night. Wrote two long messages today about the disappointment I’m feeling with House of the Dragon S2 and how HBO is f*cking up Daemon Targaryen. I didn’t have time to check out Star Wars Meg or Generation Tech this morning. The Acolyte ended 6 days ago and it’s interesting to see so many KZbinrs still talking about it. Not from SW channels as they’re supposed to talk SW but The Fandom Menace ones. So I looked up when The Acolyte was first announced. It was actually announced from Kathleen on December 10, 2020 (Disney Investor Day). But I think the concept was already there by May 4, 2020 (SW Day). Let’s just say it’s Dec 2020 or right before that whole controversy between Pablo Hidalgo mocking SW Theory for crying when Luke showed up at the end of Mando S2. So The Acolyte has been in people’s consciousness for at least 3.5-4 years before it officially came out. From Wookieepedia - Official Description The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated. “I think you see more morally ambiguous characters than you've seen in other Star Wars content. And I think I can say this pretty confidently: I don't think you're going to see action in other shows the way that you see it used and utilized in our show. *I* *just* *thought* *it* *was* *very* *interesting* *to* *do* *a* *show* *about* *the* *bad* *guys* and to set that during that period made the most sense, so I think that's what sets it apart. It's kind of almost flipped. We have more Jedi than you've seen in any other of the Star Wars content. I can say this pretty confidently, I don't think you're going to see action in other shows the way that you see it utilized in our show.” - LESLYE HEADLAND That was the original concept. Leslye is even stating it. It was supposed to be a Star Wars show about the BAD GUYS. I wanted to see how the Sith operates. We’ve never seen that side before done in live action. Maybe in animated stuff. Perhaps Disney rejected that idea making the Sith the protagonists. Didn’t want to make the Jedis look evil. But then what we got, the Jedis still don’t look that evil. That Episode 7 remains so confusing to me. We’re supposed to think the Jedis are bad but they aren’t. It was supposed to clarify Episode 3 but made us more confused! Star Wars Meg with some hilarious cutaways in this video. First half feels very lighthearted. That meme with Kylo Ren and Qimir/The Stranger is hilarious! 🤣 Emo Ren is where TV Daemon Targaryen is headed. Another white male being emasculated like they did to Luke and Indiana Jones. Can’t wait to see more of Daemon’s visions while never improving his character. Men are bad! Toxic masculinity! Women are good and the righteous! Yet, two Asians guys carried The Acolyte and one of them was a murderer. The other makes one mistake and Vernestra pinned everything on him. If we got more Trinity, she would’ve helped carried the load too considering Amandla and Rebecca were not the best choices for their roles. I do respect The Acolyte for at least offering us something that’s not part of the Skywalker timeline. And the wuxia fights were pretty cool. You can only do so much with a lightsaber duel. We’ve seen them done so many times and they all will start looking the same. But with The Acolyte, they did some pretty creative stuff with the fights we’ve never seen before in Star Wars. Now I grew up on martial art movies from Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan, and Jet Li, so it’s not technically new to me. But it’s new for Star Wars. The Acolyte is not the worst show ever. I’ve seen worse. And I think it remains overHATED. But it had so much potential to be awesome and it didn’t quite land right. Manny has a point. All of us do grow up and we won’t enjoy the same things as kids or maybe nostalgia holds onto us too tightly that we can’t accept change. But even if you remove the review bombing by the hate watchers, The Acolyte still wasn’t a well structured show. I do miss it a little. I miss at least talking about it. When it’s bad, the KZbinrs becomes funnier. The Acolyte’s good points - + Creative lightsaber fights + Qimir, Sol, and Indara stood out + Dafne Keen (X-23) was cool as Jecki + First to give us live action Plagueis + First live action outside the Skywalker timeline ^ Then maybe 2-3x more of bad points. Imagine if they showed Plagueis earlier? I wonder if that changes anything. Props to Dafne Keen. That little girl in Logan witnessing Logan finally die in front of her has become a hottie! I like her more than Millie Bobby Brown. A Season 2 of The Acolyte is probably unlikely but I would love to see a Qimir origin story. Star Wars series with multiple seasons - The Mandalorian Andor Ahsoka For MCU, only Loki got a second season. Everything else was a one-off and I expect The Acolyte to be the same. Lots of content this week. We got the Summer Olympics, Deadpool & Wolverine, and Comic-Con in San Diego all this week. Already read Mando & Grogu filmed a few scenes and principal photography starts in a few weeks. Cross fingers 🤞🏻for an Andor teaser to drop on SDCC this weekend.

It's fair to say that a good bit of criticism DOES come from nostalgia and holding Star Wars to what you knew when you first fell in love with it. As it changes afterwards, there's a LOT of fan backlash!! (I certainly had this experience with the Prequels, and I clearly see it with a lot of fans of the Prequels with new stories). I'd also say that there are a good number of Star Wars fans (myself included) who DID like the Acolyte and are very happy with the Disney-LFL Star Wars era as a whole. Sure, there are things I don't like, but I wouldn't want to see a single thing that we've gotten erased from the library of Canon content.

Honestly, I think the hand holding was not earned yet either... at that point with what they had SHOWN us, I think Qimir putting a hand on Osha's shoulder and her not flinching away or cutting off his arm with her lightsaber was about what they should have settled on. I also agree that the main issues with the show were mostly mechanical and the fact they really over sold the Sith elements of the storyline in the marketing. If they had sold it to us as a High Republic story it would have been less disappointing, I was expecting to see the Sith making plans and manipulating folks to get things setup and running, not flawed Jedi, and dark Jedi, with a single "cameo" by a full blown Sith.

It has come in handy for some British, Aussie, European, and Japanese animation and live TV. I later purchased Aussie shows that Disney+ has censored for North America. I have all the Star Wars I want including a DVD transfer of my VHS tape of the Holiday Special (for historical reasons). The other Star Wars stuff that I don't want will not be missed. I have ended my subscription because of this abomination. I've seen a lot of bad sci-fi in my life and I'll definitely see more. The main problem I have with this show was that there are a lot of stiff and wooden performances in it that knock me out of the immersive experience I desire. I don't mind changes so much as hate improbable reactions to events within the story. ( ex: Padwans running off when their master tells them to wait ) The combination of bad performances by main characters and a weak story make me believe that there shouldn't be a second season.

Though honestly in those circumstances I could see either being possible, high emotional stress combined with release of what is usually repressed can result in affections that otherwise would not happen, as many of us may have experienced at some point.

Thanks, Meg! Now I can't un-see, "Idk man, have you tried not yelling at her?" I don't know what all got cut in editing stuff down to 1/2 hour episodes, but the romance here was definitely NOT earned. If the showrunner really borrowed this from the sequels?!? Talk about a two romances that were plotted from a redpill-related website. "Why do ladies always go for the bad boy?" Seriously ?!? Those two characters were made into a caricature of women making terrible romantic choices that make no possible sense. Yeah, at least Manny didn't yell at her. That must be it. All the killing of good people in front of both of them was just to make a good impression, right? As much as people poo-poo'd the prequels for skipping all the needed scenes for Anakin and Padme to credibly fall for each other, there was at least a montage representing a serious period of time spent hanging out together having at least a little innocent fun together. It's like both of these more recent writers borrowed the clumsiest part of what Lucas did in the prequels and decided that was the part to double down on. Almost like it was trying to be a too clever parody or something. I liked the Acolyte alright, but that part was completely off and totally unnecessary, to boot. When you have so obviously cut stuff from the story to keep the episodes too short, why would you waste so much footage on a completely unearned love (ish) story? On the upside, I'd probably watch Manny Jacinto play this character again and cross my fingers that he somehow gets to kill Venestra. I imagine a crowd reaction like from Monty Python, "they ate Robyn's minstrel, and there was much rejoicing!" Osha manipulates Qimir into killing himself (if he is dumb enough to fall for her, why not?), but eventually gets betrayed by Plagueis right after he meets young Palpatine...

With respect to everyone involved in this show, this is just a bad faith argument. The prequels - regardless of the backlash - had a lot of care put into them and created lore that's been expanded for decades now. Shows like The Acolyte don't get criticism because "fans want to experience the same feelings they had as kids". They get criticism for being contrived, rushed, hollow nonsense that adds nothing to saga and scribbles over canon with crayons. Look at how universally popular Mando S1 and S2 were. Fans aren't really that hard to please. Lucasfilm could start by not making shows *no one asked for* with showrunners *no one asked for* or at least make **good characters** in these unwanted shows.

I even think holding hands the way they did was too much. I've heard a lot of people pulling for those two to get into a relationship. Why? He's a power-hungry douche that has killed a LOT of people. And let's say that she is, in fact, seduced by him. That's still a one-sided relationship. She's a means to an end. As far as the older fans go, I'm 54. I have NO clue wtf is wrong with this group. The writing back then was nothing to brag about. It was the level of awe, experiencing something so new and amazing, that we had never seen before. Well, we've all seen it, now. It is excruciatingly difficult to top Vader and Maul as villains. Palpatines are a dime a dozen, he just gets more credit because we watched him finagle his way into the Chancellorship, and watched all of his pieces fall into place...right under the good guys's noses. The Acolyte's story was interesting. Not executed properly, and gave is some phenomenal moments. I have yet to hear ONE of these wacko haters say it was good, it just could've been done better. Not one.

Overall, I’d give “The Acolyte” a B-. It lacked character development, which is crucial for a strong story. Looking at “Andor,” even though it had a slow pace, it excelled in building characters, which made the show successful in my opinion. What saved “The Acolyte” was Lee-Jung-Jae as Master Sol. Known for his incredible role in Netflix’s “Squid Game,” Lee brought a unique and powerful presence to Master Sol. It’s a shame that the overall story direction left everyone a bit confused. “The Acolyte” could have been longer, giving each character a backstory and voice. It felt rushed and incomplete, leaving viewers with more questions than answers. Hopefully, in season two, they can take their time to explain things better and give each character more depth for a more engaging story.

I'm sorry but everything about this show was bad. Starting with the story ! I hope that there won't be a 2nd season since this show does not have it. It's have nothing to do with old fans or new fans. It's simply bad. They could of done it differently and much better. The actors are not to blame since as you said they did their best with what they were given. This is just like Marvels "secret invasion" that had potential but didn't use it and just got worse by the minute! This star wars show was missing the vision , a proper stroy and proper character buildup, and story . Something to keep you on your toes Waiting to see how things evolve... I'm sorry it failed all those and more. Many of the fans were disappointed And I'm one of them. It's good that this kiss stayed out , but sadly other scenes were left in :(

Exactly. Everyone needs to be patient. Remember how SW is supposed to teach us to be patient? So many forget the lessons of SW. We WILL get more Plagueis. The first season DOES NOT need to be about him or the Sith, in the way that so many expected. This season is just the lead up to what everyone wants. We have to get there somehow. I enjoyed the season and the story. Great characters as well. I just wish we had more time with them. If it's true that characters that died in this season could show up in S2, then that means more flashbacks, and more time to develop the characters, which could make S1 even better after all is said and done.

We can’t wish for a Sith-orientated show and then also demand the hope theme. They’re supposed to be the dark side. This was what kinda bummed me about the Acolyte. These characters weren’t really Sith-like. If we’re going to want a tougher Sith-focused show it’s going to be heavily negative and I’m okay with that. The Vader comics are like that and they’re awesome.

The writer absolutely hated Jedi lol. The Jedi typically stretch the truth but they had the Jedi straight up lying lol. When they had the Green Jedi lady describe Sol as a typical man. I’m like a Jedi would never refer to Jedi as a man. Such a weird line. Also the osha and smilo ren relationship. Smilo got his drake on. If you had a twin I would still choose you. Bars. Lol

Story writing like this can certainly kill great acting abilities. Leslye Headland should be paying everyone back the budget she was given and never be part of the SW universe again. There is huge potential to revive this for a second season and spend wisely, just not with her behind the wheel again.

With a so many bad choices in this I'm surprised they had the restraint to leave it out. The turn in the story is so stupid when she joined him after he killed her friends. The mother turning into some monster apparition before saying she's ok with her daughter leaving, Sol's inability to mention that key detail when admitting to killing her. Yoda not sensing the death of a load of Jedi in one go? Then the issue with that yoda cameo in the end. If she tells him the truth then he's been complicit in keeping the sith a secret. If she lies about it then he's too stupid to know it? Blaming the murders on Sol even though there's video/holographic footage of May with was brought by an eye witness? I get this thing about the Jedi being complacent/arrogant but we have the over emotional Sol, the lying venestra rwoh, the Jedi forming a perimeter all in the same place 😂. Not forgetting the Palawan that got homesick going off and doing his own thing, causing all sorts of chaos. In the flashback, they'd been on the planet for 7 weeks and didn't notice the hideout on top of that massive mountain! Yes the Jedi did make mistakes, but a highly disciplined order, making this many. It's like the shittest bunch of Jedi ever. The research is non existent. And where were the lucasfilm story group when this was being made? I've just picked on a bunch of stuff there but we have so many other dumb things included. It's a shame as some of the characters are good and there are some good scenes.

My taste or experience with Star Wars universe has not changed. The core of George’s vision of star wars hasn’t changed . It’s the Bullshit vision of those that took over and made it possible to go down this road, sorry lack of vision to go down this road! I respect those of different views! I will never disrespect anyone’s opinion. Like it has been said. We are all Star Wars fans it’s our common denominator that makes the Star Wars universe what it is! There’s just more paths that makes the Star Wars universe what it is. Which in my opinion is straying from what it was created in George’s vision! Maybe that’s what keeps imaginations alive?!🤔
