this was done after the retirement and death of mon mothma and was intended to emulate the old republic which had no formal military instead each world had their own personalized defense force usually consisting of corvettes and fighters of course that changed with the clone wars lol still it was a dumb thing to do that early in the new republic's existence they should have waited 50 or 60 more years to do that

This is the biggest problem that I have with how the Republic was conceived of from a military basis. You're telling that a huge gigantic bureaucracy like the Republic (which sounds more the UFP than an actual sovereign state) with a massive central governing body and supreme chancellor would decide to leave defense and military matters to its constituent planets? That would be like the USA having a much stronger centralized government but when it comes to the armed forces each state has its own militia. That makes zero sense and it is unlikely that a real Republic would operate that way.

Which is why I just don't understand all this recent stuff with trying to both explain Star Wars with the level of detail and intricacy that much more expansive universes have done better, such of Tolkien's legendarium and A Song of Ice and Fire. Also, the effort to expand the universe to give it that sweeping mythological feel only raises more questions. Such as, if hyperspace has existed for thousands of years, why don't they have transporters, etc.

Through third parties in neutral countries, secret research agreements with other nations, and weapons manufacturers that wanted to help their former best clients return. People tend to forget how much of the groundwork for later German military equipment, training, and doctrine was researched way before Hitler ever rose to power in Germany.

remember those companies normally produce and sell hundreds of thousands of star ships a day making billions if not trillions of credits so if a few million credits here and there go missing and a few thousand tons of materials disappear no one bats and eye because they have more than enough to spare and if a few thousand workers vanish no one really cares because they have hundreds of millions of workers so ya no one noticed until it was to late and remember as far as we know the the first order only has a few of the new classes of ships maybe about 10 and maybe a few hundred remaining isds and 1 ssd that is significantly smaller than the fleet the new republic had at the time even though that fleet was 90% smaller than it used to be and its minuscule to the 25 thousand isd's the empire had at their height

The First Order has most of its bases in the Unknown Region. Also the Galax is pretty vast with so many worlds that you dont really can control everything. The New Republic had not so much control as the Empire. Its territory was also far smaller than that of the Old Republic while the First Order acted mostly outside of the known space.

well seeing as the hyperspace lanes in the unknown regions are so unstable it was deemed to dangerous to do so and for thousands of years no one found a safe route so the never bothered to try until the empire encountered a strange blue alien named thrawn who then joined the empire and gave them a map of the region or at least its safe routes of course this map was far from 100% accurate and did not give the location of thrawns people the chiss ascendancy and only mapped a very small portion of these worlds. i hope this helped explain some things to you

*Heres a question I thought of that you may be able to answer* Given we know that jedi and sith do not normally use the force directly on each other because of force shields that force users can use to protect themselves from force chokes or using the force to turn off a lightsaber, in theory a jedi/sith should be able to use such force techniques against non-force users who do not have force shields. So taking in all this knowledge, why did jedi not simply use the force on general grievous? who, if i am not mistaken, was not a force sensitive individual.

Shipmaster Crook it takes tremenous focus to use tje force while in combat. hard to focus when a cyborg with 4 lightsabers is coming at you at inhuman speeds and angle. most force sensitive already use the force to hold up a force shield and to enchance their physical and mental abilities, and thats all before using some sort of force attack so its very taxing. most force sensitive were also no where near the same level as jedi council members like we usual saw fighting, and even they had a hard time facing him, so anyone not on thier level stood no chance.

I always felt there were elements of Sep Tech in design of First Order Equipment, like Tech Union and Wat Tembor(Vader Proto Suit and breathing equipment). The entire movie is based on bullshit. I can understand the demilitarisation act and how it hampered the new republic. After years of war (2 wars actually) every world and every being would be for demilitarisation in a hope it would lead to lasting peace. However for the first order, even with the "hidden factories" it would be impossible for them to hide such al arge navy and army fully equiped with the latest technology and largest battle cruisers. The materials required alone would have raised suspicion on even the most gullable governments. (even the worst spy ever would stumble upon this army) Before WWII for example everyone knew the german army was equiping themselves and was raising a large army. Everyone just hoped they wouldn't attack, and hoped it could end with negotiations instead of another war. But to claim, even in space, that you could raise such a large army without anyones knowledge is straight A bullshit. A better story arc would be that the new republic knew about it but hoped it would end without a war, eventually digging their own grave.

in fairness like 1/3 of the star wars outer rim isn't mapped and even in the height of the old republic were left unexplored. In Canon the outer rim is a no go zone so the countless solar systems with countless planets with countless moons could probably hide a few ships that are only ten kilometers across. Even then, There are civilizations in the outer rim. It has been known that the republic knows about them but just never officially ventures out to them. Not having it mapped doesn't mean you have absolutely no clue about what is happening there. According to canon the first order sponsored criminal organisations to tunnel money towards the first order to build their army. Money and resources of this scale being tunneled towards the outer rim and no one notices? Really? I get it that they are inept fools. But to claim they wouldn't notice that + would ignore the ,probably countless, reports of people that are from the outer rim or venture out to the outer rim seeing these massive armies being build and trained. And like I said spies, like every large empire or republic would need in the outer rim to, you know, make sure no big ass army from an empire in the outer rim would try to invade the new republic. Like the one that happened during the old republic. Like I said, a more plausible story would be that the new republic, having no war support from it's population being tired of countless wars, being reluctant to start a war against the first order in the unmapped outer rim because they breached the agreement. Instead persuing secret talks with the first order (in order to not scare it's people with the fact that a massive army is litterally at their doorsteps) in order to try and negotiate some deal that would prevent war. That is something I could believe. Here's why: 1) You have no war support, people would protest the war and claim that the new republic is just sending their people to their death for no reason. Meanwhile the first order would claim unnecessary provocation, swinging some systems into their favor. 2) You would have to attack in the unmapped outer rim, sending your fleets into the unknown, probably into a massive ambush and therefore their death. Attacking is therefore not an option, at least not in the short term. 3) While you may know that they are building an army and a fleet, you wouldn't know crucial facts like: actual size, positioning, tech, training, ... Making it virtually impossible to plan accordingly. Negotiations would probably be preffered, and it wouldn't be unimaginable that a goverment would cling to the negotiations even though it is utterly clear the first order isn't seeking peace. It might even refuse to prepare and position it's own armies in order to not "prevoke" the first order, digging it's own grave.

If anybody has questions about how the First Order was funded and how the New Republic seemed to not notice or ignore the massive troop build up, read one of the new canon novels called Bloodline. To make a long story short, the New Republic fell prey to political infighting not long after the end of the war. One of the two factions, the Centrists, was largely made up of Senators from former Imperial occupied planets. Many of these senators were closeted admirers of the former Empire. Wanting revenge for the Empire's defeat, they began an admittedly convoluted scheme involving money laundering, a bombing, and a crime syndicate to fund what would become known as the First Order. At the same time, the Centrist senators managed to convince the rest of the Senate that the First Order was a small ill equipped ragtag band of thugs as opposed to the well equipped fighting force that they actually were. Basically, the reason the First Order was able to go undetected for so long was that they had inside help

Unlike the X-wing, Y-wing, and other fighters, the TIE series (with the exception of may be the TIE Advanced and TIE/sf) don't have in built life support systems and pressurized cockpits. Thus the need for pressurized suits and life support systems for TIE pilots. This is one of the many reasons they're cheap compared to something like the X-wing.

You're wrong Raghuvar. Star Wars Rebels and the Rogue One Ultimate Visual Guide confirm that in canon all the TIE-series crafts are equipped with a life support system. The specialised helmet can come handy to the pilot in case of ejection (or, in the case of an imperial TIE, because of the lack of shields), as Piatan mentioned.

In Legends the New Republic was smarter They spent decades of fighting the Imperial Remanent, having periods of peace and fighting between them keeping the Republic's military strong and active and had a working relationship with the New Jedi Order And when truce happened between the Empire and Republic the terms were more reasonable making resentment between the two factions less, they even worked together against the Yuuzhan Vong and when the Republic became the Galactic Alliance they worked together against Darth Kryat's Empire But in Canon the Republic was more naive they made ended the war as soon as possible and made terms of peace unreasonable against the surviving Imperials. It confirmed many Imperials fears the Rebellion wants to destroy their civilization, planting the seeds of the First Order's rise On top of that the Republic itself demilitarized itself when it was in its infancy perhaps relying on Luke's Jedi Order Like the Old Republic did It's noble the Republic wants peace and tried to be peaceful but a strong military was necessary to keep the Imperial Remanant in line and gave chance for Jedi Order to grow Because of this the First Order was created out of Imperial Resentment to the Galactic Concordance, a lot like the Germans of World War I resenting the Versailles Treaty foreshadowing the rise of the Nazis The Republic failed to realize that the Empire was a civilization that has its own people, and should have been treated as a defeated nation with rights Instead they were treated as criminals and basically exiled to the farthest realm of the Galaxy with little means to defend its people, that's why it became the First Order and recreated its military in secret hating the Republic Everything leading up to the Force Awakens was result of the New Republic's arrogance, even after the fall of Luke's Second Jedi Order the Republic did nothing, causing Leia to act by herself and make Resistance to begin with

My theory on this topic is actually that the concept of the EU Thrawn's Empire of the Hand would exist, a smaller but still strong Pseudo Empire within the Unknown Regions, established sometime before the Battle of Endor, or earlier. This would explain the military strength in a more logical way. If we look to the Empire, they had the "whole" galaxy for rescourses, as well as a large established military when it was founded, and much of the fleet was replaced, as well as expanded. This replacing and expanding took 20+ years, something I don't think realisticly we can apply to the First Order. What little Imperial forces fled after jakku is far from enough to base a military and fleet large enough to threaten even a reduced new republic, especially considering the first order most likely had to fight wars to expand, these would be costly in material and rescourses, and with a size much smaller then the empire was, it is unlikly the first order could buld up that much military power that fast. However with the existance of something in the line of the empire of the hand from the Thrawn series ( EU) there would be a basic force to expand from, and one that had fought the wars, and won, making any increase in forces easier and faster.

You always have to remember when you read or hear about civilians or companies supporting the Empire or the First Order is that the Empire created order and security which is fantastic for business which in turn leads to a better economy which makes the average joe happy with more jobs that pay well. So when the Empire fell and the economy fell and pirates and raider were now in high numbers it is not a shock that they would aid the Imperials who made things better for them. Evil is a point of view thing with many aspects of live and in stories after all the world is an infinite spectrum of greys and rarely if ever black and white.

Actually, making the Star Forge canon would have made more sense, because an operation this large in scale on such a short time-frame would have been visible even through all the corruption. Also, who paid for it? Kuat & Co. certainly were not in there for charity... they would likely ask for premium prices. And the Unknown Regions and Outer Rim are known primarily for poverty and general lack of resources. Again, the Star Forge would have made so much more sense, also given the nature of Snoke, a dark side user, but not a Sith.

The Empire only killed because citizens and planets tried to resist Imperial rule; also Alderan was destroyed because they were major sympathizers providing weapons and credits to the Rebles. Planets like kasshyyyk who were violently opposed to the Empire were "enslaved" as punishment and a warning to those who would try the same. ;)
