This is part four in a state by state rockhounding series, covering Alabama. There are a lot of very interesting localities and minerals that come from them.
But please consider liking, commenting, and subscribing. It tremendously helps with the channel. You can also find me below at these various links:

Do you want to look for gems, minerals, fossils, and crystals? And you happen to be in or visiting Alabama? Check out this video. There is beautiful star blue quartz, petrified wood, agates, jaspers, gold panning and so much more. As always though, be safe, be legal, and be prepared.

Apologizing in advance for the audio levels on this one. Snowstorm outside mixed with snow plows just wrecked it. Cleaned up as much of the background as I could but it's still wonky wonky wonky - and I gave up after having already redone the audio 4 times before I noticed. SO. SORRY. Hopefully it's not too bad.

Not sure I noticed any audio issues, but I'm not using headphones (sounded clear and even to me). Never been to Alabama, so can't really comment, but good info if I ever end up down there.

Of course I would always ask for permission and never trespass 😉😉 but seriously folks, that's a good way to get shot in Alabama is trespassing. As a Bama native- they do not play down there. Ps: I must go north and find this blue star quartz you speak of! 😍

Too, True! I was I. Phenix City back in my wild youth. Located in L.A.( that's Lower Alabama for those who may not know) I can't imagine going on someone's property, much less TAKING anything. That's how you end up in the Chattahoochee. (with out a paddle)

Every state is so interesting, I can't wait until you get to Massachusetts because, besides granite, I think we have diddly squat, especially here in the South Shore (the Berkshires is different I'm sure) & I'd love to be told otherwise. Whatever holiday everyone is celebrating I hope everyone has the best possible day.

Hang on, doesn't Mass have a ton of garnet and amethyst? I'm barely remembering being in Salem ( or was it Beverly)

Given how much had to be blasted through for 90, I think we have granite, granite, oh and did I mention granite? Oh yeah, and granite. Kidding aside, I know shale is huge half hour away in NY (and quartz, tons and tons of quartz), I'd be surprised if it wasn't here a bit too. there's also what I have to assume is a lime quarry given everything is white dust coated in its vicinity, and there are a lot of 'gravel pits' too, but I'm not entirely sure what that would actually mean in terms of actual material (and seriously not kidding when I mention granite, like it's flipping everywhere including, never fails, anywhere one tries to dig in one's yard)

Unfortunately the big down side to Alabama, most of the land is private so finding good spots on public land can be tricky since something like only 8% of the land is public access.

Please do one on Mississippi... new to geology..about a year now... I know a lot about Western States but I can't find anything good about Southern Mississippi... I live in Pearl River County... there's lots of red and orange depositions here and I'm curious what the timeline is if you could provide a stratigraphic map that could help me... I'm guessing all the red is deposits from the ancient ocean that used to be here 250 million years ago and the depositions are Granite from Canada... I'm curious how deep the deposits used to be and how far they have eroded to meet our current elevation... and so many other questions... if you know of somebody that goes out in the field and does videos I would sure like to see it ....most of the stuff I find is in classrooms and it gets quite boring😊

Id like someone to explain the colorful mineral, clay and verity of gravel deposits found monroe County Alabama, from the old gravel deposits buried 50ft deep and at 55ft about sea level i have found all of the following, Petrified wood, vary clear, blue and sea green quartz, amethyst, aquatic fossils, shark's teeth, countless colors of agate, geodes, opel and strange deposits of black and gray gravel in areas surrounded by the common white and light yellowish gravel

Your videos are much appreciated, but PLEASE add more detailed maps so we know better where you are talking about. Those giant numbers cover about 12 square miles! Give GPS locations or use links to Google Maps. I really want to visit some of these areas but after listening to your videos, I still have NO IDEA where to start looking or researching.

Thanks for the criticism. I was working with the tools I had at the time, so I'm sorry they weren't up to your liking. Also, a gem and mineral club would be a great resource for figuring out where to start looking. Which is why I tried to add that detail to each video. Sorry it wasn't good enough, but hope that helps.

@@faeriefire99 I was remembering something I saw in the comment section for Dec 22, 2022 ( yesterday's) vid.
