Just a FYI, Undead Labs was founded by Jeff Strain who was one of the co-founders of ArenaNet (GuildWars) so he wasn't some up-and-coming dev, he was an industry veteran pivoting away from the live service market. SoD2 was originally planned to be a mmo but they realized early on the mmo market was stagnating so they switched it back to a coop title.

RE: State of Decay was ever announced to even have multiplayer in it Funny, after going through the archive of blog posts during development, it was never announced that it would even have multiplayer. The "design documents" type posts clearly refer to a single player game. While they, at some point during the drawing board stage, wanted to make an MMO, it was never in the cards for their first game and they realised this for state of decay early on. The version of the engine they used (which has similar versions that have multiplayer, but not this specific one) was not capable of running multiplayer. I'm not sure why they used it and the forum threads about it have been lost to time. But by the time SOD actually became a physical game, multiplayer wasn't in the cards. Rumors of co-op were only rumors that were more hopeful than anything.

One missed element when mentioning the games they developed. Undead Labs did develop a Mobile sort of 'Pokemon game' back after SOD1 came out called 'Moonrise'. I've been following the company since before State of Decay released, personally knew a lot of the Dev's and took part in some of the very early livestreams with the Community Managers and stuff. After SOD2 however, the company sort of broke away from the community more and more. They shut down the Undead Labs forums, which we had been gather on I think since around 2010, or earlier - to exchange it with the Microsoft Xbox Forums and Discord, which, I personally tried but didn't go for it. There's a lot of Easter Eggs in the games specifically about members of the Community in the games from those forums. I sadly never made the cut for it, but a lot of the big faces are still referenced after all these years. Like Danfourth, and Captain Baker. Originally SOD1 was called Class 3 - and, after that they planned to do an MMO type game based in the State of Decay universe, named Class Four. I think a lot of us older players are expecting SOD3 to be what Class Four was supposed to be. Funny note; I remember a thread on the forums debating how good of a Zombie Survival game Fortnite was going to be back in like 2011 or whatever when the first teaser trailer dropped.

I knew that once you looted an area at least for me, you could not get any more loot out of that area. It would be emptied so it sucked later on in the game when you would go and you basically have everything looted and then you were killing your fist because you’ve broke every weapon. Used all ammo for guns and yet you were still having heart attacks. I’m not saying it needed to be built this way, but it would’ve been cool if there was a feature where due to you clearing out infestations would just stop showing up like you were actually clearing the town of zombies to make a game that does that where you can clear the entirety of zombies off of a map that isn’t Project zomboid

"nothing ever comes back like that again" Guy with 500 hours here! If you dont detect infestations and they end up spreading i.e if you a lot of infestations on your map. Usually after 2-3 active. There's a chance that your survivors can get sick. That sickness develops eventually into the Black Fever(the sickness from the first game but its not in the second) because of story spoilers. After black fever they basically can turn at any moment and trigger the event of exiling,shooting him OR you basically say that "you cant give up on yourself" you keep him and if you level up your infirmary (higher chances of surviving if you have a doctor also.) and overall have meds,they can survive black fever ,even Allan can be saved. You can contract the sickness if a bloater blows up and you stay too long in the gas. I highly recommend playing breakdown if you want a rogue like experience (similar to Sod2) but the other dlc LIFELINE gives more info on the special infected and the virus Note that the zombie virus and the Black fever are different things. Black fevers only appears in Trumbull valley IN THE FIRST GAME. In SoD2 theres an expansion that makes Trumbull valley available again but its not present or mentioned. I wont spoil anything in case you havent finished the story or grasped the lore yet. If you want to know about the lore i am pretty vell versed since I've played both games almost religiously

8:58 errrrrrrmmmmm actuality the scavengers call-in is incredibly useful since you can call it in then pick up the duffle bag, and the scavenger will still bring back the resource even tho you already took it so its a great way to get extra resources Edit: and the zombie infection and the black fever are different. Zombie bites are survivable with enough antibiotics, but the black fever is a special fast acting disease that's 100% fatal thats a result from consuming zombie runoff in the valley's drinking water, so thats why Alan didn't shoot Ed, even tho he wanted to to save meds Edit 2: 14: 30 the in-game reason for why theres only 5 survivors is because the rest are holding back with cars and supplies to not draw too much attention before they blow the gate. The actual reason tho is because the game struggles with tons of survivors in one area, and it would be way too easy if all like 40 of your survivors were guarding the gate, and you'd probably lose most of them as well. Great video tho, I'm a State of Decay mega fan but it's always great to see somewhat obscure games that I enjoy getting renewed interest

So underrated I played it for years waiting for the 2 game. Best zombie franchise in my opinion

I hope they add a lone wolf mode for the second or third game. One of my biggest complaints about the game is switching to other survivors when I only like playing as one character and baby sitting other communities. Think of it like a super hard mode with only one life, dangerous zombies, longer nights, little resources, and hostile survivors.

Played it years ago. Limited but was fun. Just installed and preparing to play State of Decay 2 for the first time this week. Too bad custom character building doesn't seem to be a thing in SoD2 (changing clothes don't really count). I would have loved to be able to play characters from other zombie/infected franchises.

Looking foward to SOD3, recent news have been promissing. I hope the game goes back to its roots a bit and has a main story. Also focusing on the small town charm that the first game did great, it's pretty enduring how many of the characters in the story know each other, maybe SOD 3 can have themes that focus on community, loyalty and betrayal to take advantage of the rural setting? Better AI as well, it'll be great if the devs evolve past the limited 3 person npc communities.

The thing I liked about SOD1 is that it had a comic feel to it. Miss that and the soundtrack.

Ironically to me, State of Decay was not a forgotten game. Unless we count the first version and not the version that adds extra characters. People still often talk how State of Decay 1 was THE experience of zombie game, thanks to the system of it breaching the wall between continuous(ones that are always going, regardless if you close it off or not...like online games) and non-continuous games. Also it had fun dlc in form of you being in control of Military squad stuck in a city. Though for difficulty i play the 2nd one, because after the updates...the difficulty actually is progressively punishing.
@Pilgrimetro4 ай бұрын
State of decay 2 actually has one of the longest update list/ player count out of most of the Xbox games, I think the only games that beat it is the halo series and sea of thieves with a long term player count

I just bought it a couple days ago on the 360 store, it's a fun game and love 360 but the zombies in breakdown get insane though... Your community members just randomly run away to hunt zeds and get lost for no reason. So you have to save them, also stock up on snacks early!!! Use suppressors and it's a pretty solid game 😅
