My dtr lived in Lahaina… so sad. Im sorry U went thru hell, with a devastating fire. I have past life recall of losing everything to fire, & the fear carried over to this life. My parents new home on a mtn. In WY was a complete loss due to lightning strike. My folks barely escaped. My dad’s feet were burned badly as he searched for his mom, who was wandering around looking for the source of the “light” . The lashes were burned off my mom’s face. This is absolutely sad and horrible to see. My wife and I spent a week here for our belated honeymoon last year, and to see it now reduced to ash and rubble breaks our hearts. We cannot even imagine the loss for those who live and make their living in the once beautiful area. Our hearts and prayers go to all those affected by this terrible tragedy. We pray that healing comes quick to those affected, and rebuilding can begin soon to help bring back this beautiful area.

Hey if you are in Maui, and your trying to figure out the least thing you can do? Hug someone who has been affected by this tragedy. It’s a mistake to simply just keep calling it a wildfire. It may have started as a brush fire, but it soon became an urban firestorm of human development. It’s even likely the source was human-made, not natural. There is a high likelihood that it will be determined to have been sparked by human-built electrical transmission facilities failing in the wind. I pretty confident most all of reasons for the source and - apart from the severe wind/drought - even magnitude of the fire were not natural but human created infrastructures, buildings and non-native landscapes. The size of the fire was a direct result of human development - especially how the buildings and utilities were constructed. A complete reconsideration has to be given of how reconstruction proceeds to accommodate the resilience required of a new age. All that said I wish for all the best for the people of Maui and the recovery of the town and residents of Lahaina.

I'm from Sweden and me and my daughter went to visit Honolulu 2007. To visit the paradise was a dream come true for me. During that trip we also planned to visit Maui but we never did. I guess we didn't had the time enought. I wish we had done that. When i saw this on the news it made me really sad. I'm on Kauai island in Hawaii. I pray for everyone on Maui. I lived on Maui for 5yrs then I came back home to Kauai. I worked at cheese burger in paradise restaurant on front street in lahaina on Maui. I also worked at Planet Hollywood before they shut Planet Hollywood on front street in lahaina. Seeing all the building gone in lahaina town makes me sad. Front street in lahaina town was all historic buildings and now it's gone Maui will never be the same. My prayers go out to everyone on Maui. Kauai island people knows exactly how Maui people feel after hurricane Iniki in Kauai was horrible we all felt like our lives were ripped apart everything we owned gone. All of us on Kauai came together and we all helped one another. That is what Aloha is. It's different in the mainland because you can get in your vehicle and drive to another state in Hawaii there is no escape for us we can't get in our vehicle and drive to another island.
