To be fair, it was only spoiled in that way because A. It was such an incredulous claim at the time, and B. Because so it would drone hype for the expac and get more people to buy in, and C. People largely were already thinking about that being a plot twist down the line as far back as HW possibly but never figured Yoshi and the writers to pick it up or thought to really entertain the idea so thus it wasn't really in their immediate capacity to duly consider and ponder the implications and/or ramifications.

2:09:00 Its still very interesting how many parallels we could draw between the Ascians and the Olympians. With the base 12 Olympians + Dionysos and Hestia we get a decent 14 members council. We got 3 big important members : Emet-selch/Hades, Lahabrea/Poseidon and Elidibus/Zeus ? The last one doesn't fit as much as the others but we know Elidibus is different from the others and that he has a special relationship with Zordiark. Igeyorhm could be Artemis (Saggitarius and all that), Nabriales fits the Ares role pretty well, and Halmarut could be Demeter seeing his section in Akademia Anyder. Loghrif was sent into the first to cause the flood of light, so Appolo or Hermes ? We still haven't heard of Pashtarot though so idk who he could be. Idk i find this theory pretty fun.

This was a treat to watch/listen to! Thanks for the content :) I was trying to absorb everything, talking to all the NPCs at the quest objectives (Emet-Selch especially has lore dumps that you'll miss if you don't talk to him), but there was still so much I missed out on that you guys went over. The Pteroslaver AF gear & Ranj'it, the Ronkan lore about making Amaro, etc. This is definitely a good expansion to revisit with alts. New Game+ hype! Still haven't finished Encyclopaedia Eorzea I & II but I can't wait for the next one, it's gonna be wild.

Tried to comment this last night but the chat was locked. I have a theory that the Ascian we meet (the one who has some sentience) is actually a memory of our character. My reasoning point 1: the ascian says they are a good friend of emet's. Emet as well comes to us more as a friend and repeatedly says we dont remember who we are. Point 2: everyone we meet cannot see Ardbert including both Emet and Ryne however this one Ascian can see at the very least a second soul the same beside us perhaps because the ascian is seeing themself through the two of us. Point 3: when we return for a brief second before the final fight Emet saw us as an Ascian.

An interesting theory and it'd be neat if only so we have a bit more of an idea of who we were (well a name at least and ex-friend of Emet's), but it felt more like both insinuated we were someone of notoriety (maybe infamy to some later degree) that they knew. Its hard since all the people in the mirage are duplicates of one another without any distinctive features.

My personal theory was that we are the 14th council member of the Ascians who wasn’t present during the events of the summoning of Zodiark (possibly because we disagreed) In any case furthermore I also thought that since we are the champion of Hydaelyn and it is stated her power is to enervate and split her foe into two halves.... I imagine she split us into a champion for each shard and thus why Emet views us as lesser. And why he waits to see if we could hold all that light aether inside our bodies. He is testing to see how much of our previous self remains. When Ardbert joins us and Emet sees the phantom image of us it is because with Ardbert we are more “whole” It is also why we can contain the light aether better because we are closer to being like an original Ascian, who presumably had massive amounts of aether inside of themselves. (Though it is stated we used a lot of it up defeating Emet himself) Just my theory.

Even if *we* were the ones to name-drop him, the fact that he could be name-dropped at all was a really big hint, at least to me.

I just finished the story on Monday and Holy Hell what a ride this was. It was obvious before Lv79 instance that there was something going to go wrong because every NPC is saying "this is the last fight" and you still have an extra level to go through. HOWEVER, even with that expectation, the final bit of the story totally blown me away. AND the last bit of cinematics + last trial, SO DAMN COOL!

I’ve got a theory on this... Essentially the Amaurotines were godlike, but they were not gods. They had doubts, and fears, and were not omniscient. Their creations were subject to fear and doubt... so every time they created, it can be surmised that there was a seed of doubt, a nugget of fear, that the creation wouldn’t turn out right, or go horribly wrong. If only a few folks were doing this it probably would’ve been harmless. But with an entire population using creation Magic’s, the fear and doubt grew and grew until it gained a consciousness of its own and began manifesting as a growing problem. The more problems popped up, the more the pre-Ascians had to use creation magic to contain it, feeding the consciousness until it threatened to overwhelm the whole planet. The consciousness wanted more... it wanted a physical form, so it manipulated the thoughts of the pre-Ascians, giving them the idea to “Summon” Zodiark, giving form to the fear and doubt of the population built up over who knows how long... Zodiark tempers a part of the population... the part that isn’t tempered realizes what happened, and sets out to create a solution in Hydaelyn... well, that’s my theory, anyway.

After the fact they wanted to sacrifice the people that wanted to put Zodiark to bed... they'd just end up in the same place again lol.

@@syllawblood I mean if you think about it, the ascians obsession with bringing him back could be their tempering. I mean seriously what god, what saviour of their civlization, ask for the sacrifice of half your population to save you guys (though I'm positive to do so a great amount of aether was necessary.) And then when you go to ask him again to restore the world, another half. Now you're saved, the world's restored now we gotta fill it up, oh look another half. Okay now it's been filled, we want you to bring back everyone we sacrificed, okay I'll take all the new life there is. Sure to achieve things can sometimes require great sacrifice and the Amaurotines knew this, but there's only so much before things start to get messy and you figure out that great thing that's been helping you that you made (considering was created) isn't so powerful or well wishing as you might have been led to believe. Kinda like McDonald's, or in a better perspective, androids in terminator. Ultimately Zodiark is like, yeah I'll help ya fam, just give me your arm/leg/kidney/whatever while you're at it and I'll cut ya a favor. Basically at that point the Amaurotines were on a path where eventually for some reason or another, due to dependency on Zodiark, there'll be nothing left for them to give and then Zodiark'll be like "Sorry fam, can't help ya this time, good luck though, I'll be here rooting you on while I made bank with all that aether you gave me and can sustain myself." Pretty much they were doomed to minute the initial calamity took root and they summoned/created Zodiark in response to save them. Especially when it comes to XIV where "salvation isn't found in gods/higher-powers created by man, but what man does to better themselves" is the running narrative of the story. Likewise, if the Amaurotines were flawed to the point that doubts or its seeds seeped into their creations, or some untold calamity or scenario forced them to use their abilities in their sleep to give life to their nightmares, then it goes without saying that Zodiark in it of himself is also flawed. Particularly considering he was created at a time where their fear and stress levels were at their peak and everyone was on edge.

About Yoshtola falling. It would kill her. We established they can feel pain. The immense amount of pain all at once will send someone in to shock at the very least, being very generous leaping through a bunch of loops, which is the real killer of most accidents. Which is why its so important to treat someone going into shock. That much pain would definitely send you into cardiac arrest. With that much trauma of falling most likely it would lead to a fatal heart attack

They are under the impression that Elidibous simply gave up Zenos body and fled where Elidibous himself stated that Zenos overpowered him even though he wasn't in his own body. They even showed a picture of this as Elidibous was explaining this from the moon.

I’m not sure if anyone caught it, but I thought it was heavily hinted that the Amaroutian-people created the Sin-Eaters (and, I’d guess by extension, the Voidsent). One of the people in the city mentioned creating a white lion with wings, which is a perfect description of the sin-eater that was used to create Vauthry.

1:05:00 tbh that makes me kinda mad. yes, death is a sensation. if you emulate enough pain by tapping into a human's nervous system the brain shuts down from oversensation and you die, like pretty much instant braindeath, and i'm talking real life here. plus, if your soul dies in ff14 your body does, too, so of course the soul falling to its death would kill your body.

Ya know this expac makes Lahabrea really look like a shit ascian, power wise. He's beaten twice by a much weaker WoL, once with help from another ascian, and gets killed by some old nerd with a sword. Meanwhile Emet-Selch turns himself into this terrifying looking monster that takes 9 shards of the WoL to defeat and it still comes down to the last moment.

It was kinda weird how Ystohal's whole thing is "deception is bad, lying is bad. The Crystal Exact should be honest 100% all the time." But it's ok to use a fake name to appeal some skeptics. You'd think if there was literally one Scion that'd balk about using a fake name--that it'd be ystolhal. --- Also, when Emet brought her back--shouldn't her eyes have been fixed? Using flow and being pulled out is like doing a hard-reset on her computer. Her eyes got fucked up because she fucked up the rebooting process. But Emet should have done so perfectly, and her eyes should have been normal.

No it says in the dialog from Selks friends "ghost" that 1/3 of the people was to bring fort there god , then next 1/3 was to restore the animals and life of there planet basicly and not to substaine Zodiarc unlike primals here in Eorzia Hydalen and Zodiarc dont work the same way energi wise.

I'm pretty sure it was 1/2 and then 1/2 of what remained (so a 1/4). Course, no matter how you slice it, the main point is that it took a huge number of people to create/summon and then sustain Zodiark.

I'm severely late to this party, but I wanted to toss in my own crackpot theory. Emet-Selch created the Allagan Empire and the Garlean Empire. He did the latter by being it's first ruler. What if he did the same thing for Allag? The Encyclopedia Eorzea Vol. 1 says the cloned Emperor Xande wound up being rather different than he was originally. We always just took that for Mad Science and Cloning Blues. What if, it's because Xande was only the vessel Emet was wearing at the time?
