On 12/21/2021 at 1213 hours, I was patrolling on Jimmy Deloach Parkway scanning local radio channels. I overheard Officer xxxxxx with the Pooler Police Department advise his dispatch that he was in a vehicle pursuit and requested assistance of the Georgia State Patrol. The officer advised dispatch that the vehicle was stolen, and that the pursuit was heading down Pooler Parkway towards I-95. The pursuit entered I-95 southbound from Pooler Parkway as all the Nighthawks got onto I-95 from exit 106. Sgt. XXXXX, TFC XXXXXX, and TFC XXXXXX became the primary units in the chase. Myself, Cpl XXXXXXX, and TFC XXXXXXXX stayed back at a safe distance to assist when the pursuit terminated. The driver of the vehicle was later identified as XXXXXXX XXXXXX.
Sgt. XXXXX took the primary position around mile marker 103 and began to chase the vehicle south on I-95. XXXXX began driving reckless, darting from lane to lane without signaling. XXXX failed to maintain his lane several times during the chase and began following cars too closely as he fled down the interstate. The pursuit continued south on I-95 past I-16 where XXXXX entered into the emergency lane at over 100 mph. XXXX continued down the emergency lane before coming up on a parked vehicle. XXXXX then swerved back into the lanes of travel and lost control of his vehicle. XXXXX’s vehicle swerved across all lanes of travel on I-95 in a zig zag pattern as he attempted to recover. XXXXX recovered from the skid and continued south before coming up to exit 90 in Bryan County. AS the chase came closer to exit 90, XXXXX got back into the emergency lane again as he approached the exit. TFC XXXXX and TFC XXXXXXwere unable to get over at which time I entered into the pursuit as the secondary unit. XXXXX exited the interstate at exit 90 and continued toward Georgia 144. XXXXX made a right turn onto Georgia 144 and began to flee west. Sgt. XXXXX attempted to perform a PIT maneuver, but XXXXX swerved in front of him. The front of Sgt. XXXXX’s vehicle struck the rear of XXXXX’s vehicle, and he continued to flee west. XXXXX then made an abrupt U-turn on Georgia 144 and Sgt. XXXXX attempted to follow him but was unable to due to the wet roadway. I made a U-turn and took the primary position in the chase. As I made my U-turn, I drove the front of my patrol car into the left side of XXXXX’s vehicle. XXXXXX’s vehicle spun counterclockwise until it was facing west again. XXXXX then accelerated at which time I drove the front of my car into the left side of his vehicle. At the same time, Sgt. XXXXX saw XXXXXX begin to accelerate and drove the front of his patrol car into the front left side of the vehicle. The vehicle was then disabled, and XXXXXX crawled over the passenger seat. XXXXX exited the vehicle on the passenger side and fled the vehicle on foot. I exited my patrol car and chased XXXXXX on foot as I drew my Taser. I gave XXXXXX several verbal commands to stop running but he refused my verbal commands. XXXXXX entered into the wood line and began to flee north through the woods. XXXXXX tripped and fell before getting up and running again. XXXXXX then fell again and got back up and continued to flee. I was able to catch up to him after the second fall at which time I deployed my Taser and struck XXXXXX in the back and left calf muscle. XXXXXX fell down and began to immediately cry. I told XXXXXX to roll onto his stomach which he did. XXXXX then attempted to get up at which time I pushed the back of his head down. Sgt. XXXXX and TFC. XXXXXXX came to me in the woods and held XXXXX down until I could get handcuffs on him. XXXXXX was then transported to my patrol car with no further incident.
Once at my patrol car, XXXXX was patted down for weapons. XXXXXX was found to be wearing shorts underneath his jeans. The jeans XXXXXX was wearing had an ink tag from a department store that he had apparently just stolen them from. XXXXXX's breath smelled of a chemical odor and his eyes were watery and bloodshot with dilated pupils. Located inside the vehicle were three glass pipes commonly used to smoke crack cocaine. All three pipes had cocaine residue on them with pieces of Brillo pad stuffed inside them. XXXXXX stated that he was injured but later stated that he was not injured. XXXXXX was treated by EMS on scene and refused treatment. I told XXXXXX about the crack pipes and he stated that someone else smoked crack. I told XXXXXX that I could smell the chemical odor on his breath and that he was being charged with DUI drugs. I then read XXXXXX the Georgia Implied Consent Notice for Suspects Age 21 or Over and designated the state blood test to which he verbally refused, stating "no." The vehicle was then verified through GCIC as stolen. I ran XXXXXX's name and date of birth through GCIC, and he showed as being suspended multiple times for failure to appear. XXXXXX was eventually turned over to Pooler P.D. for transport to the hospital and the jail.

Speaking from a personal experience point of view I can say without a doubt that the Georgia State Patrol don’t play around when it comes to chases. They don’t stop chasing you under any circumstances! They will never terminate a pursuit because that’s not in their DNA lol. My dad has been a Police Officer for 35+ years and my Uncle and Cousin are both Georgia State Troopers and my dad has been in more pursuits than I can count and whenever GSP assist them the chase is over within a few minutes after a Trooper takes lead lol. GSP in my opinion is the best State Troopers in the country.

The Nighthawks Task Force was initiated in October 2004 and the 10 members are the most highly trained DUI law enforcement officers in Georgia. The Nighthawks patrol Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett counties during peak DUI related hours. The program is funded with a grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety. In 2006, the Nighthawks DUI Task Force received the International Association of Chief's of Police National Impaired Enforcement Award for their work in 2005. In November 2009, a newly formed DUI Nighthawks South Team was deployed in Bulloch County. This eight-member team patrols the Savannah-Statesboro area in an effort to reduce the number of impaired driving crashes in the areas. In late Fall 2009, the Nighthawks DUI Task Force was expanded. The Nighthawks were divided into two separate units, Nighthawks DUI Task Force North and the Nighthawks DUI Task Force South. The Nighthawks DUI Task Force North was expanded by adding an additional six troopers. The North Task Force primarily focuses enforcement efforts in Fulton County (City of Atlanta), Gwinnett County, and Athens-Clarke County. These three counties were in the top five counties leading the State of Georgia in alcohol related fatality crashes. The Nighthawks North is assigned 15 troopers. The Nighthawks South Unit was created and primarily focuses enforcement efforts in Chatham County (City of Savannah) and Bulloch County. The Nighthawks South Unit is assigned seven troopers.

Hey I'm not supporting them or criticizing them I just posted what I found about them. Because I had no idea who or what the Nighthawk organization our unit was. But I will say that they definitely need some more training, as they had the opportunity to end this Pursuit multiple times before it went as long as it did. I'm not sure if the one drivers was not certified for pit or what but they could have ended that really quick when the car swerved from the shoulder and nearly lost complete control

I f’rickin love this channel. I just got it by accident in my feed. These guys don’t give a shit and do what needs to be done. I travel through Georgia often on my way to Florida from Canada. I always, always make sure that I am within the speed limit in the state of Georgia. I do think it is really sad though that people don’t get it out of the way of police. Although I suppose it is pretty hard when they roll up on you at 90 miles an hour and you weren’t expecting them. I don’t know if it is safer to stay where you are and let them go around you or try and get out of their way.

Sirens aren’t effective to alerting motorists at those speeds. The police literally out-drive their sirens. That being said, though, most motorists have little regard for anything going on outside their vehicles, and the rare times they aren’t oblivious to their surroundings, they’re focused only on the 20 feet in front of them.
