Tom, congratulations on earning this well-deserved scoop. It shows your hard-earned influence in the world of charging. With that in mind, it would be a real service if you could do a demo video to show ways not to block two charging spots at SCs, eg.: park (if possible) to the right of the last right-most stall; use one of the side-mounted stalls even if you stick out a little; and 3 choose a stall next to another non-Tesla vehicle. It is interesting to note that Tesla owners tend to choose every other stall as they fill up (this goes back to the early days with v2 sites that halved the charging power of occupied adjacent stalls). If six Teslas are parked in a 12-stall site and leaving one space between each, no vehicle with a port in the “wrong” position will be able to charge. It’s going to be an interesting new world out there.

Good to hear. We are considering the lyriq but I am very reluctant to go with an adapter. Any word on when/if GM will be going native NACS adaptors with the 2025 models? I've noticed other manufacturers, Kia, Hyundai, have made such commitments for '25.

I only took on about 3 1/2 Kw at a cost of $2.02. The charge rate was 49 Kw when I disconnected. This was an almost new Supercharger location that is actually configured for easy plugin without hogging 2 spaces. I was impressed.

I wonder about Volvo and Polestar access. I believe they were originally scheduled before/with GM. I don’t see the need for waiting for the brand app support. Using the Tesla app is easy as we have proved with Magic Dock access.
@chriswestenskow52026 күн бұрын
To be clear, only 60% of the Tesla network SITES support NACS. It is not just the V2s that are Tesla only, even 40% of the brand new sites are reserved for Tesla only, even on the new hardware. Connector count is a spec used to exaggerate the amount of the network that is open. It is critical to check the Tesla app when route planning to ensure that you don't get stranded at one of the Tesla only sites. ABRP also allows you to filter for NACS. independent of Tesla. This confusion has stranded many EV drivers.

GM's app (garbage that it is...) allows you to search for compatible nacs locations.

I know I am not thinking if you bought a Tesla you wouldn't have had to wait and can charge any superchargers. Welcome to the network.

The sites need to have clear and obvious signage.
@chriswestenskow52026 күн бұрын
@@cypvh74 I don’t disagree, but in many places, by the time you’ve arrived at a charger planning to charge, it’s way too late to find out it is not compatible. I think Tesla also likes to be able to make changes to NACS support without physically changing signage at the site

When receiving your adapter, be sure to label it with your phone number and/or email address. If lost, there’s a good chance it will be returned to you.

Im glad you went over charging etiquette, people will be messing that up, for sure. But, at least videos out there, like this, will help. I have a Honda Prologue, which is on the Blazer EV chassis, and assembled on the Blazer EV assembly line in Mexico, and it also works with both Magic Dock chargers, and now NACS chargers with the CCS1 adapter, just like the Chevys.

Tom can you buy a KIA/Hyundai/Genesis EV so that they can get access to Tesla Superchargers soon? 😂😂
@SuperChopperpilot6 күн бұрын
best I have seen with my Ioniq 5 at the chargers that already have a magic dock is about 92KW. I am hoping this frees up some of the EA chargers for us.
@jamesrea3296 күн бұрын
My GV60 got 97kW on a magic dock, and was able to hold that all the way to 80% SOC. In fact I let it run a bit longer and it didn’t start dropping until 84%. I stopped it at 90%, it was still pulling about 55kw at that point. Love the charge curve on EGMP vehicles. I hope it doesn’t take another year for us to get supercharger access.
@easternpa25 күн бұрын
@@jamesrea329 that would stink if they ship the '25s in December with native NACS ports and supercharger access but somehow can't get access for the cars already sold.

Great news Tom, but my assumption is that your Equinox should charge to its max as Tesla does not have that low maximum current that EA has on the 150KW dispensers, would make interesting video for GM owners, especially Chev Silverado EV.

Especially in light of Tom's 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV DC Fast^H^H^H^H Slow Charging Analysis Maybe an update is needed there. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gWm6hYaPftFnnJI

Thanks Tom. I checked my app during your video and was able to authorize and order an adaptor before you were done. I had reward points that basically covered the adaptor, and it will supposedly be delivered by the end of the week. So, no free GM adaptor, but excellent service. Looking forward to trying it out.

I have a Chevy Bolt and I just used the Tesla app to charge just like I do with my Lightning. You will see now on the Tesla app when you select the Bolt it now shows the same chargers available to the Ford Lightning as the Bolt.

Tom, I actually have been able to charge my Hummer at non Magic Dock sites in Arizona since June, using my Ford adapter. Snuck in while GM was doing hot weather testing. Some others were able to charge at some sites in Michigan as well.

Nice, finally. I ordered the adapter from gm so i could use my gm bucks that are otherwise useless. It said backordered, so hopefully they just send it when available.

Well done Tom, this time you beat Kyle to the punch although you also had exclusive insider info and did this prior to the public launch. Look forward to the podcast with the boys to find out all the info that you didn't cover including the back-story on it all. As you say though I suspect both Lectron & A2Z will see more sales as Tesla just isn't manufacturing the 'official' adapters fast enough.

This is great news. I don’t plan to use the Tesla network as a first choice, at least until they get 350kw charging, but it will be good to have such a large network available when traveling in areas with less choices.

Why? It’s obviously an update to make it compatible with the Tesla handshake. The bolt is old so this isn’t surprising

@@doomsday9973 there's nothing that should be needed. Bolts work on magic dock stations.

I'm glad more cars get access to the supercharging network. I stopped to use an electrify America charger once thinking it was a free charger, but was shocked to see how expensive they were for how slow the charging was. $0.59/kwh for 150W is a joke, like I know that it's a monthly subscription for non-Tesla owners to use the superchargers, but it's hard to beat the $0.35/kwh charging at up to 250W. The abundant amount of superchargers is a huge plus too if you need them. I'm fortunate enough to have charging accessible at home, so I've only used a supercharger 4 times. Once on a long distance trip, and 3 other times while waiting for my mobile charger to be delivered to me.

Thanks Tom, it is sad that GM is charging for the adapter, at least I used my GM Rewards points to pay for it, so it cost me eighteen dollars in taxes only. I will pick from the dealer this week, I need to do the first-year service anyway to rotate tires on my Blazer EV, it is hard to believe it is a year old already.

@StateOfChargeWithTomMoloughney It seems GM is allocating backordered Lectron adapters to Bolts and other vehicles get in-stock Tesla adapters. You have to put in your vin to order it.

Don’t want to sound negative. I had 2020 Bolt LT and 2022 Bolt EUV Premier. Was really looking forward to Equinox EV, but GM pushed back a lot the Equinox EV. Currently almost all GM EVs except Hammer EV and Silverado EV are quite on the slower side requiring at least 40 minutes recharging or at least double the time that average Tesla needs. We might see soon many GM EVs just hogging now superchargers

Unlike Ford, which is offering free adapters to be able to charge on Teslas supercharger network, GM is charging $225per adapter and GM says that usage of non GM adapter violates warranty. Government Motors GFY
@benroberts22225 күн бұрын
Not quite. They said use of non GM adapters MAY void warranty. That's because they legally can only deny warranty coverage if the adapter CAUSES the problem, rather than being incidental to a problem that would have developed anyway. If you trust the third party adapters to be reliable, you would have little to worry about
