Update: The iPad Mini 7 supports not only the Apple Pencil Pro but the newer Apple Pencil USB-C model. This was not originally communicated on the Apple website and has recently been updated on the Apple Pencil sales page on Apple's website. This makes more sense that there are two Pencil options and it's actually nice that Apple gives us both options as I had hoped for when I discovered this issue. Both the 2nd Gen Apple Pencil (the one I was referring to owning two of) and the original 1st Gen Pencil are still available for sale on Apple's website. Apple could have communicated this better. On their iPad Mini 7th gen page they promote the Pencil Pro and not the Pencil USB-C. Only recently they added a device comparison section at the bottom of the page where they show support for Apple Pencil USB-C on all current models of the iPad. This clarification would have saved me from the initial frustration and frustration some of us have had in the comments. Regardless, I appreciate all of the comments. We learn together and that is what I love about KZbin when things go right.

I know pilots & doctors are known to be huge fans of the iPad mini. As well as kids. But there’s another group. People like me who are artists. My iPad Pro is my main drawing/content creation device, but when I really wanna travel light, I always grab my iPad mini. It’s the perfect size digital sketchbook when on the go.

Nice! I guess I never think about many people having multiple iPads. Don’t know doctors use them. I only see windows devices usually.

What app/s do you use to make it your digital sketchbook?
@Regantdarcy9 күн бұрын
@ I mostly use Procreate. Especially on my larger ipad pro. But i also dabble in other apps like sketchbook, adobe Fresco, affinity designer, medibang, concepts, art studio pro, clip studio paint, graphic, and artset 4 among others. But many times on my ipad mini i just use Apple's own Notes app if i just want to doodle. ✍️

What about gaming with a paperlike screen protector? Does it affect any performance?
@Couillaxfeter11112 күн бұрын
Worse image quality and clarity but much better feel and sweat resistance. The rainbow discoloration is quite distracting though
@jeradtech12 күн бұрын
I don't think it effects performance, but the texture does feel weird and take some getting used to. There are different types of paper-like screen protectors, some have a grit to them and others are softer. I would go with a softer screen protector like the actual Paperlike model. I am currently using another model I got on Amazon and it is a bit too gritty.

Sorry but I don’t get your rant about the Apple Pencil pro support and the new iPad mini not being able to use the pencil 2. The pencil 2 WAS the “pro tier” for Apple Pencil on previous generation iPads, and it is also supported on the mini, air, and pro lineup of iPad, the basic iPad doesn’t get this support. Now they are doing the same with the pencil pro and the basic iPad 10 being the only one without pencil pro support. Why are you fine with the old iPad mini needing the pencil 2 and not okay with the iPad mini 7 needing the pencil pro?
@jeradtech12 күн бұрын
I think its a frustrating upgrade that is forced for those who want the Mini 7 but already have a pencil. I don't think there was a need to make the iPad Mini 7 specific to the Pencil Pro. Not sure why some don't understand that. Why then is the base level iPad not requiring the Pencil Pro or the latest iPad Air? To me it seems more about getting a few extra dollars out of people who want the latest iPad Mini than anything else. Ultimately, it is a personal preference and in this instance a preference that you can't get around without spending extra money.
@irfarf20112 күн бұрын
@@jeradtech Okay that's kinda weird, my reply before this got deleted probably because i included link to apple. Here's the counterpoint 1. The current gen iPad AIR DOES need the pencil pro, since they only supported pencil pro and pencil usb-c 2. Apple no longer sells the pencil 1 and pencil 2 anymore on their online store. 3. I do agree it doesn't sit well with me that when they made new ipad with pencil pro support they dropped the pencil 2 due to "different magnetic array", although the reasoning on their pro and air variant kinda make sense since now the right side of the device are jam packed with landscape camera + charging for the pencil. 4. Base iPad variant never had support for the more "advanced" stuff that apple provide for it's air and pro counterpart, the ipad 9th gen only supporting the pencil 1 and nothing else, and they also doesn't have the connection on the back for magic keyboard compatiblity for market segmentation purposes. 5. They are replacing pencil 2 with pencil pro, and pencil 1 with pencil usb-c, which makes sense since hardware products needs to be refreshed after some times so what would you have apple do? launch the ipad mini 7 with support for pencil 2 that is no longer on sale, and asking apple to sustain the pencil 2 just for the sake of 7% of total ipad sales which is the mini, or have them do what they actually did here, with support for pencil pro which is a common device shared between mini, air, and pro variant?

Where do you see that the Apple Pencil Pro is the only option available now? I see on Apple's website the ability to purchase every Apple Pencil model since the 1st generation. The Apple Pencil Pro, Apple Pencil with USB-C, the 2nd Gen and the 1st Gen still are available for purchase, I just verified this myself.
@jeradtech12 күн бұрын
Ok, after more research I have an update. This confusion came because Apple did not communicate this well or at all. It does appear that the newer Apple Pencil USB-C model is supported on the iPad Mini 7th Gen. This was not listed anywhere when I made this video so the update must have happened in the last week or so while this video was being edited. It does appear that there are two Apple Pencil options meaning the Mini 7 supports both. This is actually really good. I may test this just to do it but I would have to purchase a USB-C Apple Pencil. I wish Apple had communicated this from the beginning. Obviously, this makes more sense as the Pencil Pro and Pencil USB-C are the two promoted Pencils where the 2nd and 1st Gen Pencils are still available for sale but not on the main Apple Pencil Apple Store page.
@irfarf20112 күн бұрын
@@jeradtech apologies for that, I missed the tiny link the purposely put on the Apple Pencil shop page, and yeah there is pencil 1 and pencil 2 there. But overall the point still stands, the iPad mini 5 only supports the pencil 1 and when people upgrade to the 6 they are also forced to get the pencil 2. I still think that their strategy with mini is that it has more feature parity with the air rather than the base iPad. Also, some thing that I also realized after buying this is that this year the mini also got the pencil hover feature as well.

I bought a mini 7 as an upgrade from a mini 4. I don’t understand the hatred for the tablet with some You tubers out there. Not everyone wants an M4 chip in a huge screen that will not fit in a pocket. Doctors and small plane pilots are two examples that spring to mind. This fits the gap between my iPhone 13 and my Mac. Plus, I get the chip for Apple Intelligence without having to pay more money to upgrade my phone.

I don’t need all the bells and whistles for this device that’s why I have the pro for. And I like the price for what you get. I still own my 5 did not do the trade. It would really cool if the next mini would be a foldable version.
@michaelwoolcock56009 күн бұрын
@@Oneverythangilove Good feedback and I just thought of something. Remember the issues people had with the A17 pro chip being in the 15 pro body with regards to over heating? Apple may tried to put an M chip in the mini and encountered the same issue. The A17 pro chip being may have been a better choice for heat dissipation and they may have left the M chips to work in the larger iPads for that very reason.

I’m sorry, but you did not actually use the full power of Apple Intelligence for your performance percentage request. Your command should have started with, “Ask Chat GPT what is the…” Without that command, you’re basically just using basic Siri. As a tech reviewer, I would have expected you to know this and not spread misinformation.
@quincyfreeman290112 күн бұрын
He also claimed the mini isn’t great for photo editing because, “the screen isnt as high resolution as an iPad Pro, and it doesn’t have the performance of an iPad Pro”… despite it having a higher pixel density than the Pros and there likely being minimal practical difference between the performance of the mini and a Pro when photo editing. In most cases, I bet the most tangible difference would be in the usb-c transfer speeds😂

In the same video I said I use the Mini all of the time for ingesting images into Lightroom and doing light editing. A larger display is going to make almost all things easier, especially with photo editing. That was the point. I never mentioned pixel density, I mentioned resolution.
@quincyfreeman290112 күн бұрын
@@jeradtech I agree that bigger is usually better in this case. That said, respectfully, resolution is not the same thing as screen size. There are phones with the same pixel count/resolution as monitors and TVs. I hope you can see how using the term “resolution” to imply “screen size” is easy to interpret different from your intention.
