I'm afraid that I will have to vote for Denver Crumpler!!!
@selkcebr5 жыл бұрын
George Ronald Anderson Jr. Not really, Hovie Lister always looked for the best singers for his group, so when Denver Crumpler died and, he was looking to fill that spot, he really wanted Bobby Clark, but that didn’t materialize, and that’s how Rossi got the job.

@@thiggy1249 Agreed. It’s a close-run thing, but Denver is better and the blend was better, slightly, with Denver. But Rosie ranks next.

this was one of my mom's favorite. wish I had known it was on here a year ago. I use to play it by Jesse Dixon for her @ the nursing home and she enjoyed it. I know she would have loved this version too as Jake and Hovie were some of her favorites too. Thanks for sharing this.

This was after Chief's death and Statesmen had "retired". Hovie, Jake, Doy & Rosie did a few concerts - sort of special events and decided to restart the Statesmen. Chris replaced Doy (and that's another story unto itself).

This was about 1978. I was at a taping of the Jubilee in Nashville when this particular group of Statesmen was on the show (not sure if it was this taping.) I remember them doing "I want to Know." The Hinsons and the Hopper Brothers and Connie were also on that show.

There is another song with a similar title, Wait til You See My New Home. I have the music to it but haven't heard the Statesmen sing it in nearly 40 years.

Can anyone tell me the name of the gospel singer in the light tan suit who joins in for the second (or third) chorus? I've seen him in Gaither videos and his identity is driving me nuts. Thanks.

@chrisjaybecker7 жыл бұрын
They regrouped in about 1976 with the "Classic" lineup of Rosie, Jake, and Doy with the bass mic purposely "left open" as a tribute to Chief. After a year or so, Doy Ott retired to go back to Oklahoma to his chiropractic practice. He was replaced by Jake's son Chris Hess, who is a marvelous singer and an all around good guy. I spent several hours hanging out with Chris backstage and talked to Jake quite a bit as well. Jake was a nice man... no ego at all. Hovie was entertaining... with a very playful sense of humor.
