You are so lucky to have seen Band Maid, twice. Good observation about older people recalling that this is what rock & roll used to be. You never know one mainstream radio station in the USA may start to play some rock and metal again, even if it's only for a Saturday night.

About their popularity: I'm writing this in mid-July 2020. When Band-Maid dropped the Conqueror album in December 2019, within 48 hours it was #11 on Billboard's worldwide hard rock album sales (includes both CD and digital), AND #10 of iTunes digital rock albums downloads worldwide. That's a LOT of fans all over the planet, waiting to jump on it as soon as available. Including me. This was a few days before my birthday and felt like a present from my #1 band. Rock and roll isn't exactly dead in the US, on life support maybe. But the big music industry here has gone to shit. It's run by soulless business managers who know little or nothing about music and care even less. The real music is underground as far as radio and TV are concerned. The artists are showing their music on platforms like this and distributing through their own sites, CD Baby, Reverbnation, etc. Japan has a lively underground club music scene that feeds the thirst for a live band experience, they have a lot of good and some great live-performance musicians partly because of how seriously their high schools take music, and those musicians are finding ways to share and sell their music. Their music industry is not perfect either, but definitely ahead of ours in the States for getting new, original, quality talent out there.

There are actually five of these videos. This one, and four others showing how each individual member plays their part of the song. To watch them all, including this compilation, takes over twenty minutes. MISA's new bass is a SG style Precision by Black Cloud. Miku has a number of Zemaitis guitars, including the pearl faced Ring and this metal faced Aces & Eights. Miku, started it all. She knew instinctively they needed double vocals, and two guitars. So, to recruit Saiki, she stepped down from lead vocals, and learned guitar from Kanami. She writes the lyrics and holds everything together. Akane & MISA have been playing together since Music School. They even did projects together before BAND-MAID. Check it out . . . kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3mzoZqAg5aClcU

As a big fan of both BAND-MAID and BABYMETAL, I think about their current levels of popularity sometimes as well. BABYMETAL have been around a while longer. Although they were very smol back then, they started in 2010. Of course they had to divide their time with Sakura Gakuin activities until graduating from that group. BABYMETAL did a bunch of festival appearances starting around 2014, both in Japan and overseas. They made connections with many of the metal bands, developed supporters, and later got opening act spots, as well as being able to join tours as a support act. Even with all of the "trve metal" BABYMETAL haters, they became part of the metal community, which seems to be more cohesive than Rock 'n' Roll in general. BAND-MAID started in 2013. They did more festivals in Japan in 2019, but not so much overseas. BAND-MAID are in a weird place. They're not metal, so metal festivals are a bad fit. At the same time, they're a lot heavier than the current pop trends. The 'Inkcarceration Festival' in Ohio is a good start, but they need to get in to more festivals outside of Japan. Also, ideally they would tour with, and open for a big Rock act in Europe, the USA and Japan. Of course once you hear them, most folks get converted. It's just getting them out there to be heard that's the hard part.

Reaction channels are a big part of how BABYMETAL got so big, all the really massive ones reacted to Gimmie Chocolate, that can really give a band/artist a boost from all the exposure. If we can get larger channels to react to BAND-MAID as well as the smaller ones that are now I think we will see a jump in popularity.

Misa is talented using simple basslines usin aeolian scale In this which is used mostly in metal and funk. Makes it fit this song. And sticks. Kobato has vastly improved. Still wating with some really awesome riffs and licks from. Like lovesbites guitarist. But babymetal is big because it is and Idol band. So they were literally made for the people

I disagree. I love Bandmaid, and I obviously respect their great musicianship. And being a fan of metal and not liking pop, I should like Bandmaid way more than Babymetal. But Babymetal is at another level because their songs are better. I like Bandmaids songs, but to me they are a little repetitive and maybe this is the metal head in me, but the choruses are just to radio rockish for me. Their songs could use a little more juice and creativity. Again, they are great and I am in no way saying their songs are bad. I think the pop idol thing actually hurts Babymetal as far as people actually realizing how many great songs they have. With babymetal many people, even people who are fans never get past the thought of the "gimmick" of them. The truth is, Babymetal is no more a gimmick than most rock or metal bands. Their songs are great, each unique onto itself, its a shame most people cannot get past the surface of Babymetal. Maybe since I like metal more I would have liked Babymetal more anyway, but thats my 2 cents. I saw Babymetal earlier this year, would love to see Bandmaid next.

@@f1hotrod527 well i like babymetal. but sometimes when i play some of their songs i feel like..cheated?. i read somewhere that babymetal's songs are composed and arranged by some of the top metal composers of japan, and they rotate too (like the backing band members in some gigs) in every album. In bandmaid's case, tho i dont like pop but the songs have... soul? when i listen to the drums i know that akane made that fill to fit the song, to base licks, that misa has a hand in it, to the solo, that kanami made it. and others, hours and hours of work. to visualize the debates and brainstorming to make their songs..
@f1hotrod5275 жыл бұрын
shadow3y3z I do know where you are coming from. Band Maids musicianship makes them very appealing. I know with babymetal a lot in the metal community won’t accept them because they don’t write the music or play the instruments. I used to think this way as well. But babymetal has caused me to rethink this, as I no longer care, I only enjoy babymetals music and don’t worry about who wrote what. Let’s not forget that Suemetal is an amazing singer. I think band maid is awesome. I just prefer heavier more unique music a little more. Band Maid could be really be something special in my eyes if their sound went a little heavier and unique. That is of course subject to your taste in music.

I never understood the link between Babymetal and Anime, I don't see it. They are from Japan, and they are cute, so that instantly means Anime? Babymetals outfits don't even look Japanese to me, they looked like western clothing to me. They are like ballerina black swan meets Metallica. Like I commented below, Babymetals "gimmick" probably makes more people dismiss them before even giving them a chance musically, especially in the metal community. Listen to all 3 Babymetal albums, how many songs are really really good? how many sound the same? Love Band Maid, but Babymetal is the greatest thing since "new metal" to me (cool new metal ;)) Babymetal's only mistep was that, shanti shanti should have had much more heaviness on the metal side, it is a good song, but could have been epic. In the name of the Goddess In the name of justice In the name of METAL In the name of the Fox God!!!!!!!!!
