Upgrades To Van Lights And Plumbing

For years the lighting in my van has been an irritating. The lights were too bright and intense. But, I need bright lights especially when I am working or cooking. So it’s time for a lighting upgrade. And while the tools are out, I fixed a plumbing issue too.

My name is Scott and in 2015, I bought a Ram ProMaster City to live in. Even though I didn’t know much about RV’s and campervans, I set about building the van out as a minivan camper. And in April of 2016, I moved into my minivan full time.
Over the years, I’ve learned you don’t need to have a big skill set to build your own campervan. And that living as a minimalist and utilizing solar power can be a less expensive way to live. I’ve also learned that a minivan can be a very comfortable home.

Heat shrink tubing also works very well to repair plastic vacuum lines after a mouse attack under the hood. Guess how I know!

For those curious, LEDs can that say “not dimmable” will flicker if you try to dim them. They need a minimum amount of voltage to work. Dimmable LEDs will dim. I learned the expensive way.

Even "dimmable" LEDs can flicker while dimming and/or just turn off at about 10%. Putting a single incandescent bulb or other resistive "dummy" load on the circuit powering the LED's can eliminate the issue. I've used one of those coffee cup warmers as a dummy load and it worked great.

12v DC wiring is easy because it’s simply two wires, a Positive and a Negative. Anyone can do it. Even me!

Search Labs says the Blue Light is a great hue for van in the nighttime. It does not interrupt the sleep pattern which can reduce your melatonin for a good night sleep. Also you can move around and do things easily with a blue light.

The blue light is for the old fashion x-ray dark room so that you can see but the light doesn’t destroy the x-ray photo, I think. My father was a retired darkroom x-ray technician. He was a Maxwell House coffee drinker. The taste was ok.☕️ The blue light is pretty.

Wow. This light really makes a different. Btw, every morning I drink my coffee I think about more to appreciate it and not be stressed because of my kids, because of you 😂. For a little light in the corner to read just use a little USB light. If you just need it once in a while. The battery last long and you can put in everywhere and it’s cheap. So no wire needed. 🇩🇪🎉

Blue lights can be used for mood lighting, illumination, productivity, and sleep disorders. Whenever you have exposure to blue light in the hours leading up to bedtime it can hinder sleep. Blue light suppresses the body's release of melatonin, a hormone that makes us feel drowsy. There you have it. I hope that helps. 😊

From what I understand from automotive channels, soon there will be a vehicle sales crash, resulting in a buyer's market. I'm wanting an E-Transit van for stealth camping. It has built-in AC power on board from the main battery, so the convenience is built-in. Not to mention the fuel savings. Plus you can run the climate control all night long, without starting a gas engine! Oh, my favorite part is no oil changes.

If I do find myself choosing the van life I think the only two amenities I would want is a refrigerator and running water with a sink like yours, and go total minimalist with everything else. It's where I start anyway. But very impressed with your setup.

You spray the beans with water to reduce the static electricity that builds up when grinding so fewer grounds stick to the burrs and fall into the collection chamber. Also makes cleaning easier.

Harbor freight has those rectangular magnets with two in a package for like a dollar. And they are strong.

I use a usb led light strip and set them on red. Red aids in eyes sight healing and helps slow you down, for sleep. Also better light for stealth. A simple fix would be a light shade or cover, to change to a softer or dimmer light.

Not that stealth is your goal, but the military uses red lenses on their lights because it carries less far. LED red is smaller light output and would bleed through curtains less. And less stress on the eyes. A simple push of a Botton on an led remote.

I watched your last video.... While you were warming up your transmission..... Most people don't realize that it is important to Warm Up The Transmission..... Even with a Brand New Vehicle.... If the Transmission is Cold.... So is the Transmission Fluid.... & Won't lubricate... Which damages the Transmission....

Use 3M Super 33+ electrical tape. It’s more expensive but worth the money. 👍
