Going strong. Been doing five of your lessons a day, a Khan Academy Differential Equations section a day, and a chapter of a Materials Science textbook a day to prep me for the brutal engineering semester to come while working full time. Already did the entire AP stats course on Khan Academy too last month so I better ace this semester. Can't thank people like you enough for providing these free educational resources, especially in the given crisis in education and the intense need for multiple good online resources for virtual learning. I actually prefer watching my lectures online because I can speed them up and then use office hours to ask all of my questions. It really should be the format that colleges use of a nice mix of in-person and virtual.

Seriously, you should consider "challenging" this class. That means taking the test to "pass" this course and get credit entirely. If it doesn't cost that much I'd give it a go. At very least, if you don't pass you got a sample final exam that will help you in the class. Good for you for studying proactively. AFter all math is math, and statics is statics. Do this for your other classes, because the "quality" of teachers you will be taking and their exams(bag of tricks) will not be consistent. Keep on.

Just wanted to update, especially for those in the midst of using these to study. I ended up with a 4.0 Gpa for the semester and made the President's list at Ucf all while working full time. Thanks Prof Hanson. You have a huge fanclub in the UCF Engineering dept, we even make memes about you

I'm telling you man, you just gotta want it... I just finished my last mathematics unit for a Bachelor in Engineering in Australia with over 95%. I'm doing the same, working full time with 4 kids at home...

Amazing videos, I often use them to help supplement my knowledge whenever I don't understand an in class concept. Statics would be way harder without these videos

I've got to repeat a question asked earlier: why can we just use the moment defined to be around point G as if it were a moment around point B? Does the location just not matter for moments, they act in the same way on the entire structure? Or am I missing something?
@MiguelSilva-ks4cl2 жыл бұрын
i have the same question
@oximas-oe9vf Жыл бұрын
yes the location doesn't matter as it's a couple, a couple has the same effect no matter the position

Can you explain why 100(3) and 200cos30(6) are negative and 50(9) is positive? I would have assumed it would have been the other way around. thanks
@pr.dr.nachtigaller5154 Жыл бұрын
If something pulls/pushes clockwise aka to the right, it produces a negative moment. If it pulls/pushes counterclockwise aka to the left, it's a positive momentum. You are thinking in terms of regular vectors, aka x and y. But moments work differently.

at 10:00 why doesn't the location of B affect the moment at G? I think my idea of a moment is wrong, so I am confused why you can just add it to the other moments without doing anything to it
@MaeganEggs Жыл бұрын
I know M=Fd, so if the moment is 300 and the distance is 6, the force would be 50 at that location? How can I think about this plz

Still a little muddy on how moment at G, can be simply used when calculating moment about B. Can anyone elaborate please? Thank you
@trexinvert4 жыл бұрын
That's valid and wise, because it eliminates 100kps force moment contribution. Even wiser take the moment at point "D". Eliminate that 200kip @ 30° force. Thus, leaving only the easy horizontal force two forces.

What if the point of interest were any point except point B.. will the effect of moment 30 kip.ft be the same?? i.e. it will be written as "30kip.ft" in the moment equation.

They "key word" in these problems is RESULTANT or EQUIVALENT. That means don't treat it like an FBD.

Can we use a moment at point G to calculate the moment in poin B? Can someone explain please?
@eyobderese5021 Жыл бұрын
yes I guess, since the moment is a free vector, we can put it at any point as we wish
