Stationeers: Phase Change Heating in Europa

For the oxygen compressor, I have used a couple of small tanks to store the oxygen at 40MPa, approximately 240kmol of it. Having experimented with storms, I found having a small volume of oxygen like in your video the storm really affects the stable heat source and can throw off the rest of the phase change loops. Having a larger volume means the storm takes longer to effect the temperature of the oxygen, keeping the rest of the loops safe. Was a bit of a challenge filling the tanks to this level though, as I was having a lot of problems with the oxygen liquifying quicker than I could release it so it took a few in game days to fill, and release the liquid without destroying my pipes. I've used some IC10 chips to control when the active liquid outlets come on to help save power when they're not required. Thanks for the great video, I'm completely new to phase change and this has helped me start to understand how it works!

Im glad it can be of help. One big change was that they added insulated in-line tanks between when i created the video and now. While i dont think they would make a big difference, it could possibly slow down some heat loss due to convection. And from what i saw during the video as well, storm temp oxygen did affect it but with enough oxygen in there, it stayed somewhat stable as but it released a lot of liquids. I hope it is a good starting point and it leads to individuals making their own improvements, as i made it it works, but it can always be made to work better.

for the initial coolant system, i used a memory chip and logic writer to change the active vent to 6Mp don't have to worry about overpressure or liquid issues.

Is that for the oxygen compressor? I think at this time i strangely enough have yet to really use chips in greater detail, it wasnt until Vulcan that i started building a few for some small settings like this.

@@shadowdrake082 Yes! in the first stage as shown in the thumbnail. i still had to use a drain and cowl for the liquid waste tho. but the chips do well to stop them growning. i found i had to flick the vent to inward and turn it on first then turn the chip on to overide the vent to 6mp. so long as the vent's settings don't change it "should" stay the same. Updates to the game not withstanding so you should be able to just overide once then remove the chips, i keep them just incase.

Will give it a try, i have an earlier save before i fully set up my system. Just a matter of if i want to limit myself to T1 and keep doing what i have been or just go T2 since vulcan is easier to go T2 if you can get lucky with rng to get some oxites.

@@shadowdrake082 Ya, the Traders need some tweaking, it's the only thing I sometimes will bypass in a save altering starting materials, such as 1 ferrn seed and 1 potato seed and if you screw up well you're back to having to roll the dice on traders. Also, it's nice I'm not the only one who prefers to experiment in Survival mode rather than Creative.

Rather than using the system you had to vent the liquid from the input, why not just put passive liquid vents on them?

I have done this before, passive liquid vents are throttled based on how much evaporates in the pipe volume and then has to equalize with atmosphere. I haven't messed around too much but I found for some reason the pipe cowl and utlility gas pipe has handled an extreme load better than several passive liquid inlets.My belief is that passive liquid inlets trap and keep liquids in the pipe but let air freely mix whereas pipe cowls will equalize everything, including liquids with the atmosphere.

You keep saying "tier 1". I didn't realize there was a tier 2 evaporator and condenser. What are you talking about when you say tier 2?

I was refering to the printers. Tier 2 printers are those that require the printer mod fabricated. When I refer to a tier 1 system, I mean that you dont usually need any alloys except maybe steel. Some cases may require electrum and solder for automation purposes if you dont want to use the chips. But usually once you make constantan and invar, you basically are ready to start making printer mod upgrades to use stuff like counterflow heat exchangers and large direct heat exchangers. It depends on how quickly you want to tech up to the better printers based on ore availability.
