My platinum preppy works even after I don't use it for months. If it stops writing I usually just dip the tip of the pen into water and it unclogs the nib.

Oh I'm so glad I'm not the only one I know of who dislikes those stamp letters.... I threw mine away. It was just too much of a hassle. I print and paste what I need instead. The Hobonichi cover issue with the button being in the way - another problem that I thought a Japanese product would not have by now. They're usually so meticulous in their product designs! Have you tried Cosmo Air Light paper? When you griped about the Clairefontaine paper, I was like...wait, has she tried CAL yet? 😅 Thank you for this review! It's refreshing to see such videos on the stationery side of KZbin!

Omg right?? I'd much rather just hand-letter that font than use the stamps. I was fully expecting some heat from that opinion, so I'm glad someone else agrees haha! CAL is regarded as one of the best fountain pen papers on the market. One of its qualities is the slow drying time of the inks... But it shows the ink qualities amazingly. I'm mostly using Japanese paper since I write exclusively with fountain pens when I journal, so it's an obsession. @@lillabjornco

Oh my goodness that sounds like HEAVEN! I will absolutely order some. Do you have a specific CAL journal? Or loose leaf? I've been absolutely loving the Kokuyo Thin paper - it writes beautifully with fountain pens, but also ballpoints and gels 😍 @@CiceroSpeaketh

In terms of the clairefontaine notebook, I have the same notebook in a different color and was likewise disappointed (especially since my ink bled through the paper). Then I found out that the company has different notebooks with different papers. I got a different set of art deco notebooks from them, and the paper is way smoother and more cream colored. Even better, no bleed through. Just thought I'd mention it in case you wanted to try clairefontaine notebooks again.

Lol the marks around the stamped letters is what I like about them. I don't like the box they are in, doesn't hold them in properly, you never know how many will fly out every time you open it. 😊

Flat writing surface is a must! I feel you on any bumps from the cover - definitely a deal breaker for me. I don't even put a lot of stuff in my planner covers because of the bumpiness it creates.

I’m the same way!! That’s also why I prefer washi stickers - they’re much thinner and don’t create the bumpiness 😍😍

I love my letter stamps and use them to date my journals. I have got used to the amount of pressure needed so there are no lines around the letters

I also didn't like these particular letter stamps!! They were cheap and not well made at all because at least in my set some letters didn't even have the same size and of course they were also off center so it was impossible to make a straight line with them! I feel like this is not a problem with other letter sets that are from expensive brands but I'm not willing to spend the money, I like using my embossing lebel maker more but it's not ideal for labeling in the pages as it created bumps, so only for covers... oh well... 😅

Yessss!! I think for me the biggest issue is just switching between the stamps, it takes me longer than I’m willing to admit HAHA! I’m sure having better quality stamps would make it more worthwhile 🤩🤩

I'm using the weekly supplement to ease myself back into minimalist paper planning and journaling, to see if I enjoy it. There is so little space that I don't feel pressured to write much, just some key tasks and memories. For that purpose it's great, but I understand why you wouldn't like it when you have a full-on planner. Definitely I would not use it for hourly appointments - that's my journaling space, turned sideways.

It's only the Platinum Preppy that gave me issues, all other Platinum fountain pens that I've used have been great! I suggest the Platinum Prefounte; it works wonderfully and is in the same price range as the Preppy 😄 @@tsubahoshi

When it comes to fountain pens I've found that my two dirt cheap ones, a Pelikan and a PaperMate, outperform my more expensive ones by a lot 😅That's a good thing, else I'd be looking to get 'the best one money can buy' and would probably end up spending a lot of money I later wish I hadn't

Well the priciest one I have is a Waterman and it is constantly clogged. Cleaned it out and everything. Only using official cartridges and it's a disaster each time. I'll just stick to my cheap ones for now @@lillabjornco

For the preppy pen, I initially got a 0.2 one with a converter and I loved it so much I decided to order more. On my next order I got 3 more, I didn’t get any converters for them tho. I got a 2nd 0.2 a 0.3 and a medium nib prefounte (which is essentially the same thing). Out of the newer 3 only one worked. Not sure if it’s a quality control issue, if I got shit pens or issue with refilling the cartridges but I’m pretty disappointed. Next time I’ll get a plaisir for sure cause it would at least have a metal body and won’t get cracks.

Check the cartridge in the preppy to see if it is seated ok. Also, you can eyedrop fill them with just some silicone grease and a gasket. Super worth it for the extra fine line you get with the Preppy!

There are several YT videos on covert g the preppy and other pens into eye dropper full. I use carts in mine, but fill with syringe with fountain pen inks and reuse the cart. I’m going to get a waterproof inks collection going! The Jinhao Shark pens are great for playing around since you can get 12 for 12 bucks or so on amazon. They come with converters, so for a buck or so a pen they are great. I suggest staying away from the Fude nibs though.

Thanks for the info! I’ve also been looking at the Jinhao pens. Is the Jinhao shark your favourite? I’ve been looking at the 82, 100, and the 9019, but don’t know which to pick.

I haven't tried any of those models, I got a 6 pack of 992 (clear colored demo, I think a Sailor clone) I also got a 5 or 6 pack of colored Jinhao 619 which are like a Lamy Safari clone. The Shark pens are definitely cheapies, but not bad since they are a buck each and come with a converter! @@lillabjornco I enjoy the 992, some of the pack had better nibs than others. A lot of folks really love the 82 and the 100 Jinhao.

Thanks for sharing! I also considered those alphabet stamps at one point but saw that the edges were a problem and it was crooked so it was a no for me. What do you use instead when you want perfect lettering? Also for the preppy, I think the feed is notoriously hard to get ink through with cartridge, I had to squeeze my cartridge a bunch to feed the ink into the feed and now it works! Maybe you might try that, if you haven't already :)

Printing out letters is an option I actually hadn't thought of, but a good idea, if I ever wanted to be really extra perfect I suppose. But hey, handwritten has its own beautiful charm right?! Aww shucks! Well if you ever find one in your possession again, its worth a try!

I had the same experience with the platinum preppy. I had two- both caps cracked and I wonder if that didn’t lead to them drying out too quickly. And I feel the same way about the stamps too😂. I will add those vellum semi transparent sticky notes you supposedly can write on- I just don’t keep a sharpie on me often enough to enjoy them. And I bought a bunch😂🙈

I actually practice my penmanship with my fountain pens to get the same look of those letter stamps. Also I was very close to buying a Preppy because so many people have said it’s their daily writer, but I came across stories of cap cracking etc, I’m happy I didn’t buy it!

They are great pens, I’m a fp addict and like my preppy pens a lot for planners etc. also check out Jinhao pens, the colored collection of Jinhao 619 pens in EF are super fine nibs if you enjoy a .38 line.
