Although I have one question, at around 1minute you say E is the worst and S is the best for scaling? I have weapons that say Attribute Scaling: D & C so surely they are the worst? Am I being stupid here lol

E is the very worst scaling stat meaning you won't get much out of that particular stat for that weapon. D and C means you'll need to use whatever stat the C is. So if it's Dex then you'll get more damage off of making a dex build.

Okay so the “Godskin Peeler” says attribute scaling STR E and DEX C so to get the best out of this weapon I would want to put all my runes into levelling up DEX?

@@Clarke73lol Your primary damage stat would be dex yeah! you'll still need to invest points in vigor and endurance. If you want to put a certain affinity on it, then you'll need Dex and the other stat for scaling. Buf if you just want to do dex then choose keen affinity.

Thank you for the video. Ive watches countless hours of videos of ER at this point but never played it, but i think now its time to take the plunge. Im the type of RPG player that likes to over optimize for my playthrough. think "grind my character to level 40 before beating the very first boss who is level 10". The vast majority of people dont play like that, especially before their first playthrough, but thats how I personally have fun with RPG games. Elden Ring would be up my alley but what kept me away for so long is the sheer amount of customization for the characters and how they all affect each other. Ashes of Wars, Talismans, Rune requirements for levelling followed by statpoint allocation, then weapon scaling (regular smithing stone vs somber smithing stones), then weapon attribute scaling on top of that, etc....... At a certain point it feels like im back in university and have to study for hours just to grasp the basics. Videos like this definitely makes the game more approachable without making newcomers feel completely stupid.

well, it's also very forgiving and you can just go about it with trial and error. You can't be fully prepared unless you actually play it and get the feel of the game, no matter how many videos you watch. You got this!

if you put special or elemental status most of the time you can't enchant it from your off-hand and although I don't know exactly why (I assume it is due to the modifier) but occult is better for bleeding than the blood in fact if anyone could confirm or deny this I'd appreciate it

1. you can't have more than 1 damage type on a weapon that's why it won't let you unfortunately, even if it's the same damage type. 2. It's not better to proc bleed, it gives your arcane scalling a much better rating, usually between B and S, rather than it scaling better with Dex. But usually for a bleed build you want both Arcane and Dex anyways for your damage. However, it in most cases it will do more DPS, especially with weapons that already have passive blood loss to them like katanas.

One thing I’m curious about. With split damage weapons, let’s say you have 150 physical and 150 magic, does that mean I’m doing 300 damage in total? Are split damages additive? Because sometimes I feel like they do less, but that might be because of enemy resistances but I’m not sure. Also, how do the various armaments work like scholars armament? Do they add flat magic/holy damage or do they scale off your stats? The game never really makes that clear. Great vid!

yep they all add up, and it definitely depends on the type of enemy, your weapon level, and how high the stat that scales with it is. Sometimes the enemies can also be resistant to slash and striking so you have to use your AoW instead. The armaments add a temporary buff to your weapon, so if you add magic damage to your weapon for example, it will now scale with magic damage as well as physical, so the more intelligence you have the more damage it'll do, as well as your weapon level.

It doesn't loose the bleeding effect because slashing and piercing weapons already have a base bleed buildup stat, but it will be extremely lower, and if you put points in arcane it won't do anything to raise your DPS. Using an affinity that adds another scaling stat will always do more damage.

Hi, fromsoft noob here! This was really helpful but I have a big question. Using an ash of war I can have faith damage stats on a sword. By having that stat on the sword do I now do faith damage with a normal attack? Or does that faith stat only apply when the weapon is enchanted by faith? Any help is appreciated!

If you select sacred affinity after applying an AoW on a weapon, then your Faith stat will determine the weapon's damage and you'll be doing holy damage with the weapon once it has the affinity, no buff needed.

do beast incantations really scale with strength? im at 99 strength using the clawmark seal and the beast claw spell does like 300 damage which is pathetic, considering one unbuffed jumping attack from my weapons does 2k dmg+

Not the incantations, the seal itself used to do the incantations. It’s called Clawmark seal, it scales with both faith and str, unlevelled it has a D scaling in both and B scaling fully levelled up.

it depends what affinity is on the weapon but generally speaking strength will do increase the damage by 1-2 points more than Faith.

Do you mean the status effect buildup or the weapon affinity? Because I mentioned how the affinity scales. Status effects I wrote on a text on the video, basically the higher the buildup number is the quicker the specific effect will happen. That number increases with the specific stat so if you’re looking at blood loss it would be arcane.

Basically every time you upgrade your weapon with smithing stones it increases a level, the + (number) tells you your weapon level, so how many times you upgraded it already. For regular weapons you can upgrade them up to level 25, so +25 is the highest you can get it.

I'm not sure I've seen the information I'm looking for. I'm looking at the trinket "Shard of Alexander". With the rise in Attack power - is that a melee increase, or can it also add to spellcasting? I'm using Night Comet with the staff of loss. I'm trying to work out whether I gain more damage the SoA talisman, or use Carian Filigree instead as that reduced FP use. If SoA doesn't contribute, that the CFC is best...any thoughts?

Tried it out. SoA does not add damage when casting spells. It only adds damage to the skill (i.e. Wave of Gold with the Sacred Relic Sword) so for casting CFC is better for damage.

both! if your ability is frost related then it will scale with int. Using your weapon to hit if it has frost affinity will use both your points in str and int to determine damage. But the letter rating in either str or int will indicate which you should prioritize.

Hello!! Quick Q: why in in this case even the 56 scaling modifier lowered to 46 it is still blue? Isnt that supposed to tell me that it’s better?

is it because you're changing to an affinity? if so that's normal, it shows you where it splits both damage types.

I’m starting to get the concept, one question if you wouldn’t mind. If I have a weapon that levels the same on dexterity and strength is it using both of those to scale? In other words would 50 points in strength and zero points and dexterity do the same damage as 25 points in each (25 on strength and 25 on dexter) on that weapon? Thank you

In theory yes! but a weapon will always scale better with one or the other as you upgrade the weapon but sometimes it won't show for the first few levels. If you're unsure check the Elden Ring wiki and you can see what stats it'll have as it levels up and it might give you a better idea of what stat to use.

Hi. I have the spear Pike. Scaling stats is Str D, and Dex D. Which attribute do I level up in as both are D. I’m assuming strength because we wouldn’t class spears as a finesse weapon? Is Dex for finesse weapons? But I’m also wondering if levelling up both Str and Dex would give me more damage output on the spear as opposed to just leveling str?

You'll have to upgrade it to see which stat gets a better letter rating, or you can use the elden ring wiki! So for example, the Pike isn't a very good weapon, even at +25 the stats will be Str C and Dex D. So technically it would scale better with strength once you get it to +25 but imo it's not worth it. For now, dex or str will work fine! However, if you change the affinity you can get better letter ratings like Keen will give you a B rating in Dex. If you choose the Heavy rating, it will get a B rating in strenght! (all at +25 though so that's not too bad).

@@ThatSoulsGirl how do I tell if a weapon is good or not? Is it the letters in the scaling? I’ve maxed out the upgrade for Bolt of Gransax+10 but the letters in scaling have stopped at C and D. Is this a good weapon?

@@ahipenepaenga6931 You know how good a weapon is by the letters yep! So at it's max if it's only at C it's not that great. You can't change it's affinity either since it's a special weapon so you're stuck with these stats. I mean, if the AoW is worth it then use it but it's up to you.

When I level up and it shows the armament damage (left hand 1, etc.) the damage number it shows isn’t the same as when I add up the damage types and scaling myself. When you level up and you shows the increases in the armament power due to increasing strength or dex, is it only looking at physical damage? For instance, it’s showing my Starscourge Sword as doing way less than the 200 + 125 physical and the 120 + 75 magic (just random numbers). I’m so confused.

Your damage output is also dependent on your stats. So if Starscourge scales with strength and magic then you need to have a lot of points in both strength and intelligence. Also, the damage listed vs the damage you do is also dependent on the enemy and if they're resistant or not to the damage type and how much armor they're wearing.

Is there any way to upgrade weapon Stat scaling like going from D to C is that just using smiting stones to upgrade the weapon or is that the player stat affecting that grade ?

The grade is directly affected by leveling the weapon up with smiting stones!
