I was the lead singer in Rick Parfitt's first ever Rock n Roll band "The Demons" Rick was only 14 years of age at the time and I was 19 in 1962 we were just a local band in our town of Woking in Surrey England. I emigrated to Australia in 1970 and continued to follow Rick's career in Status Quo and was privileged to be able to meet with Rick and the guys backstage several times when they were in concert here in Melbourne...I have great memories of times spent with Rick over the years and was in touch with him only weeks before he died, he told me he was working on his new solo album...R.I.P. my good friend Rick.

I wish I could have saw your band Bob. I always liked quos encore pure British beat rock and roll it was like the early 60s. I can just picture your band with the hofners, Watkins rapiers and cooking selmar truvoice amps. Can I ask what was a typical set list back then? I can picture Rick ripping into rock n roll music and then bye bye Johnny!
@bobpeake9683 жыл бұрын
@@FenderTele Yes I do remember Watkins guitars and amps being used and a Copycat echo chamber which used an audio tape in a loop (The tapes would break very often in the middle of a number...Bummer!) I started out as the drummer in the band for a short period as I did not play guitar and I ended up as the lead singer. We were not a well known band as we only played locally in Woking, I can't give you a set list but we played a variety of the popular songs of those times including The Rolling Stones, Chuck Berry, Cliff Richard and The Shadows, (The lead guitarist Jim Blanchard was a big fan of Hank Marvin and we always included a couple of instrumentals in the sets.) The Troggs, The Animals, The Nashville Teens (another Woking band) we were influenced by many other performers like Marty Wilde and Billy Fury. My introduction into the Music scene began in the early to mid 1950s when I played drums in a Skiffle Band, we weren't very good but had so much fun.

I've seen Quo live every year since 1986 up till Ricks death in 2016, one of the best live bands I've ever seen, and very loud, I went to both reunion tours in 2013 &2014 and net the band a few times, really genuine blokes very down to earth and gracious to fans. For me one of their best tracks and only number one hit was Down Down, oh and Paperplane.check those out!

I was brought up with Quo from being a kid, but kind of took them for granted. I remember them opening Live Aid and showing the rest how its done. Now looking back at their performances these guys were a talented and fun loving set of guys who at heart were good musicians and performers who could do it live as well as any contemporaries then and anyone today. Great to see Rick and Francis in effect.

Status Quo, or simply Quo, as they're more commonly know, are a British institution. They've been around since the 60's and had constant hits throughout the 70's and 80's. They even had a few in their later years, too! A no nonsense, hard-working band that were very down to earth and played a unique brand of 12 bar boogie styled rock 'n' roll. Their songs were unmistakable when you heard them on the radio. Hugely popular but totally unfashionable. Which is why they were constantly chided by the music press and media for being, '3 chord wonders', 'rock dinosaurs', etc. They were very much a, 'take us or leave us', band with no pretentions whatsoever. Their live performances are legendary. Some of their other songs are:- Big Fat Mama Don't Waste My Time Forty-five Hundred Times Mystery Song Slow Train Roll Over Lay Down There's many, many more, too.

Been a fan of the Quo for 36 years, they're THE best rock band UK has to offer. Just a shame they never broke the US apart from their first hit Pictures of Matchstickmen back in the 60's. Hope you listen to more from them because they have done better. For instance there's a song called Forty-Five Hundred Times and the live version of that is epic especially back in the 70's and early 80's it was 20 minutes long! 🤘
