It's called S. repens because it's a way of shortening scientific names in the scholarly community: capitalize the first letter of the genus, period, then lowercase species. Sorry if I'm being overly literal and you knew that.

@@CorvusOscen Thank you for doing these videos. I'm new with aquatic plants, however I'm fantastic with above water plants. Lol What is the name of that pine tree looking plant? I want to do a whole forest scape. Thank you again!!!

Beautiful set up. S repens has been my favorite foreground plant since I started and now I’m 10+ tanks in. I want them all to be planted and out of every you tuber, I feel your style of aquascape is my favorite.

"Why does everyone call it S. repens?" That's the standardized shorthand when you're referencing something by its genus-species name. It gets wordy and clunky having to say/write "Staurogyne repens" over and over again. Exact same reason why dinosaur people call Tyrannosaurus rex a T. rex.

Love my S. Repens, it's one of the easiest foreground plants. I wouldn't try it in organic soil though, it's tiny roots like a looser substrate. It grew better for me in medium gravel and mulm and dosing liquid fertilizers. It's easy to propagate by ripping a bit off and replanting it. Totally agree it's kinda like a stem plant in that regard.

Hey, Happy First Father's Day man! Great vid! This stuff did not do well for me in Ecocomplete with three Fluvial 3.0s over a 75gallon tank. It just sort of died off over the course of a year. I'm not enjoying the Ecocomplete so I'm slowly adding fluvial stratum to it. I've changed the tank to a more low light tank so I probably won't revisit this plant in this tank. Maybe in my darted 30. Cheers, Chris

It is called S. repens because the scientific name of every organism can be shortened by using the first letter of the genus and full species name.
@C.Double.4 жыл бұрын
I think his comment is because in the aquascaping world specifically, full names are always used.
@JBoney-bi8lh4 жыл бұрын
@@C.Double. uh, I dont know about that. A lot of people say S. repens. I dont really think it's a "community" thing to have to say the full name.

@@JBoney-bi8lh uh, ok... what other plant in the aquascaping community do you know of that people call by a shortened genus and full species instead of using either the full name or the common name?? I think you are missing the point of his comment.
@JBoney-bi8lh4 жыл бұрын
@@C.Double. what the actual fuck is this entitled "aquascaping community" bs. I do planted tanks. It's not that big of a deal I just explained why people can and will use the shortened names. It's scientifically correct to do so. People use it bc they don't want to pronounce "Staurogyne" or don't know how. I've seen so many people state "S. repens" who are in the planted tank hobby.
@C.Double.4 жыл бұрын
@@JBoney-bi8lh Dude... I was explaining his question regarding S.Repens (which was a joke about pronunciation)... People in the "Aquascaping Community" (when i say that I mean people with knowledge to share, people who do it for a living) make a point to call plants by their full name being there are so many variations of common names and so many incorrectly identified plants. He was asking why they do it with everything but S. Repens (knowing full well its because everyone pronounces it differently... hence the end of the video). I was just trying to explain that he wasnt actually asking that question, it was in jest.... for a pretty girl, you sure are mean AF.

I’ve really been struggling to get my S repens to grow. I did a dry start and they grew fast and looked good even after filling for awhile . Then after a few weeks they started to melt and got overwhelmed with diatoms. Now after 2 months I’ve lost 1/3 of them completely and the remainder have some new growth that’s not covered in diatoms but the older leaves are. They’re growing very slowly with shriveled leaves even though I’ve got good ferts ,light, co2 and ADA Amazonia. My Mc has had some patches of melt and most of the plants have lots of thread algae. Only the rotala hra looks reasonable. Should I just wait ? And maybe it will recover.

Is this Fluval stratum? I’m planning on redoing my planted tanks this summer. I’ve got a lot of plants in one tank, and I want to use them in a few rescapes. I liked how it didn’t make a huge mess like the dirt in my tank does. And how many bags per gallon, approximately would you recommend?
