Excellent documentary. Second time watching it on HBO 5/27/24. Knowing about the process at Motown and then watching this gives one insight in how both companies were able to successfully market the Black sound to different target audiences. Motown had a more crossover sound whereas Stax was more unapologetically Black. I'm proud of both.

I have the utmost respect for Al Bell. That said, when CBS wanted to renegotiate the crazy deal that he had made with Clive Davis, which was boided when Davus was fired fir financial shenanigans, instead of Al seeing it as racism from CBS tryna jeep a Black man down, he should've worked at a negotiation I stead of flat turning them down, bcuz Instead, that pussed CBS off enough to squeeze the life outta STAX, and all the people there. That was a fatal decision by Al, when working WITH CBS wouldvekept everyone working. Yeah, his Black man pride would've taken a little hit, but people would've kept their livelihood....and STAX would've gone on....
