I'd never had much interest in Stax or EStats in general. My vintage Grado RS-1s died recently and I was looking for headphones that sounded smooth and natural. I bought some ZMF Auteurs on eBay and didn't like them even after a week of adjusting and coping. I went to a dealer to try out a bunch of stuff. Every headphone I demoed bothered me in some way, even up to summit-fi stuff which I knew I couldn't afford. Some DCA and Audeze stuff came close to what I was after but the tuning was more than a little wonky. The dealer said he had one more thing for me to try, whipped these out, I heard one song and went "That's the one". They sound like music. Just... Music. They don't sound "analytical", "warm", they don't have a "big soundstage", they're not "dynamic"... All these words are just fluff that gets in the way of hearing good music. You put these on your head and you just hear the song. The way it sounds in your head when you imagine it.

If you're looking for a brighter pair of headphones, these are a great choice and perform really well at their price.

I don't consider lightweight, flexible, soft materials to be inherently lacking in durability. If anything, less mass means less force upon impact if you drop them, bump them into something, etc. Flexible metal is better than thin plastic. Also, rigidity and weight (stereotypically associated with "build quality") almost always comes at the cost of ergonomics. The only time I want something weighty and more solid, is if the system/device benefits from it. Otherwise, I'd absolutely love a lightweight, comfortable, "you forget you're wearing them" pair of headphones. If it doesn't compromise on sound, then it's a win-win.

I bought this product and I am very disappointed about the sound. The lows are so emphasized that it ruins almost all the electrostatic magic. On top of that the ear cups are so small that the membranes are touching the ears and distort the sound. 😅

Check again, European importers have adjusted the price down. I even got a partial refund on mine.

@@ChrisStoneinator je veux dire le Stax 270s comparé au Topping EHA5, et bien j'ai ma réponse, j'ai reçu le Topping aujourd'hui: non rodé il est meilleur à presque tous les niveaux ! seule la sonorité est un peu plus "numérique", je dirais un peu moins naturelle, mais non rodé, et non branché en XLR encore ! meilleures basses, meilleure scène, meilleurs détails, meilleure dynamique, etc, voilà c'est ça qu'on veut voir sur internet: des comparatifs de ces 2 amplis, c'est pas compliqué non ?

@@ChrisStoneinator oui j'ai entendu parler de cela, mais je n'écoute pas à des niveaux de volume très élevés, pas de soucis pour l'instant, et ces tests seraient peut-être à refaire après un rodage, cela dépend peut-être aussi des casques: j'ai le SR X1, donc pour mon utilisation normale sans me casser les tympans, c'est mieux que Stax, donc chez moi la comparaison est faite aussi :)
