the midnight motivation thing is so accurate. i think the reason this time is more motivational for us is because there's less of a chance of being disturbed. everyone is sleeping so there's no-one to bother you.

Oh my gosh thank you!! Lately I’ve just staring at the blank canvas of my drawing program thinking “okay! I should get started now!” But then my brain goes “wait do I even know how to execute what I’m imagining in my head? Imma look up a tutorial” and then I get sidetracked going down a rabbit hole of tutorials and reference photos I’m never gonna use 💀

I tend to use long "ambient" music on KZbin as a timer. So when I have the urge to open YT again, I just land on it and see how long I had worked already and, generally, how long I still want to work.

Please can you make a video on how to draw a character several time without making the same character look different in every drawing like the sideview front view and other view
@SomeRANDOMpersonwhodraws3 ай бұрын
Yes that would be so helpful! I run into that issue a lot but I do believe it has to do something with symmetry, though might be wrong.
@ausername45903 ай бұрын
You could try looking into character turnarounds, there are plenty of videos covering then on KZbin, Brook Eggleston's and Joshua Adeoye's videos are pretty good at explaining them

Same, I cannot work on art if I'm not listening to good music! More so if it's something I really like and I lock it on repeat for hours! But one thing that helps me focus is streaming. I know for some people that can be a terrifying thing. But knowing that there are people who are just itching to see you finish the piece really put excitement into it. Though sometimes it can backfire, I start to feel overwhelmed if I just started a piece, and more so if it's super detailed. Then I wish I completed it already haha!

I know for me I get distracted when I realize I have something else I need to do. So I keep a small notepad on hand to jot down stuff that comes to my brain so I don’t forget but I still don’t have to do it right then.

Different levels of side-stuff are so real tho! I learned to use a second, smaller thing to use as an intentional distraction, which soaks up the rest of my focus, and also blocks out the other, unintentional distractions. The more focus something requires (new tasks, tasks with lots of words, very concentration heavy stuff) the less focus the distraction gets allotted, and vice versa. So it goes from heaviest to lightest distraction like:new podcasts with lots of speakers, new audio book, old podcast (bc I already know what's happening, and don't need to pay that much attention anymore, or process and keep up with new things), new music with vocals, old audio book, familiar music with lyrics playing at random, familiar music with lyrics in a set playlists, instrumental music, silence buffed by noise cancelling headphones/white noise for those it works for. It's helped a LOT with my adhd to figure out which activity needs what distraction, bc I _can't_ just decide to fully focus on something, that's not how my brain works. It's like having to occupy a small child next to you. If they're not entertained enough, they'll bother you bc they're bored, and if they're TOO entertained, you'll be distracted by their stuff. But nothing, NOTHING beats listening to an engaging new thing while keeping your hands busy with something that requires little focus. I zone out for HOURS

I 100% get the music thing! For me, I’ve found that I prefer listening to music when sketching or coloring, but I’ll have a KZbin video open on a second monitor to listen to when doing lineart (I’ve been wanting to get into podcasts too, but just. Havent for some reason lol). Also, timers are so good for helping with RSIs too! I’ve strained my wrist/hand really bad while drawing for a big final project, and setting timers helped force me to stop and stretch to prevent any further injury

The music thing is interesting!!! I've known that for a LOT of activities in my life, I'm more distractible if there's not music playing. For writing, I prefer to listen to lyric-less music, and I have for years. For drawing, it's really hard to start if I don't have music. I CAN get in the drawing-zone without music, but it makes me more distractible. If I'm in the zone, it doesn't matter if I have music or not, but I can sustain my focus for longer with music. My music has to either fit the theme of the piece OR be my favorite songs. I haven't experimented with music with or without words for drawing yet. Good video!!!!! I'll try the stuff in here!!!!

Another thing that helped me a lot is to set a timer for the apps you're frequently using. It's a great way to dodge spending countless, (and sometimes) unnecessary time on certain apps on your device. You can do that with your browser, too!

This video completely describes everything I do. Having a million tabs open, constantly being distracted, looking at youtube page not intending to watch it, having motivation at 2 am etc. Maybe that's why still haven't completed my beeg project after 5 months, even tho If I did just a small part a day, I would complete it in like 2 months. (Or maybe thats adhd. I can't diagnose it in my country, but I have literally every symptom). Anyway, even tho I can't go somewhere else to animate(am doing it on pc, and not a laptop so I can't move it somewhere), I'll still try every advice in this video!

I'm definitely gonna try using a timer and close my tabs, there will be times we're I spend 2 days on a drawing that takes 7 hours because I sit and zone out or get distracted on Pinterest 😭😭 and I'll think to myself that I work slow when really I'm not focused

I'm 99% sure you have adhd, leaving dozens of tabs open, best time to do anything is in the dead of night, the timer is just the pomodoro technique and always godda have something in the background, also great background noise CatFM radio.

One time I was in a large city area (not gonna say where as to not dox where I live near), and I couldn’t leave because the person who drove me to the cafe we were sitting at was talking to someone else. I had my IPad with me however so I just booted up procreate dreams and I will tell you THAT WAS THE MOST EFFICIENT ANIMATION SESSION I HAVE EVER HAD. Especially because the internet there was far from the best so I couldn’t open any of my socials unless I booted up my phones hotspot, which is a hassle

i found out that using a music specific app (on the computer not my phone) helps me a lot! it stops me from drifting away, like if i open my phone to change the song i notice someone texted me and i just get distracted for hours, and if i use youtube for music on the pc i get distracted by the videos i get recommended on it lol

dont remember if i already commented here lol pomodoro is extremely helpful to me, and as much as i hate to admit it, i cant listen to shows or yt videos because itll inevitably be distracting. what does help is repetitive high-bpm music (like some breakcore or videogame soundtracks) which end up just blending into the background of my brain.
